The strawberry market in South Korea is actually the largest market among horticultural crops. Strawberry cultivation in South Korea changed from field cultivation to facility cultivation in order to increase production. However, the decrease in production manpower due to aging is increasing the demand for the automation of strawberry cultivation. Predicting the harvest of strawberries is an important research topic, as strawberry production requires the most manpower for harvest. In addition, the growing environment has a great influence on strawberry production as hydroponic cultivation of strawberries is increasing. In this paper, we design and implement an integrated system that monitors strawberry hydroponic environmental data and determines when to harvest with the concept of IoT-Edge-AI-Cloud. The proposed monitoring system collects, stores and visualizes strawberry growing environment data. The proposed harvest decision system classifies the strawberry maturity level in images using a deep learning algorithm. The monitoring and analysis results are visualized in an integrated interface, which provides a variety of basic data for strawberry cultivation. Even if the strawberry cultivation area increases, the proposed system can be easily expanded and flexibly based on a virtualized container with the concept of IoT-Edge-AI-Cloud. The monitoring system was verified by monitoring a hydroponic strawberry environment for 4 months. In addition, the harvest decision system was verified using strawberry pictures acquired from Smart Berry Farm.

The creation of interactive virtual reality (VR) applications from 3D scanned content usually includes a lot of manual and repetitive work. Our research aim is to develop agents that recognize objects to enhance the creation of interactive VR applications. We trained partition agents in our superpoint growing environment that we extended with an expert function. This expert function solves the sparse reward signal problem of the previous approaches and enables to use a variant of imitation learning and deep reinforcement learning with dense feedback. Additionally, the function allows to calculate a performance metric for the degree of imitation for different partitions. Furthermore, we introduce an environment to optimize the superpoint generation. We trained our agents with 1182 scenes of the ScanNet data set. More specifically, we trained different neural network architectures with 1170 scenes and tested their performance with 12 scenes. Our intermediate results are promising such that our partition system might be able to assist the VR application development from 3D scanned content in near future.

Straighthead is a ‘physiological’ disorder of rice, the symptoms being floret sterility, deformed florets and panicles and reduced grain yield. Straighthead in rice is difficult to investigate because of its unpredictable occurrence under field conditions. An experiment was conducted in south-eastern Australia in 1996 to investigate the effect of rate and timing of N fertilisation on growth and yield of rice. The presence of straighthead at this location gave a unique opportunity to study the influence of crop N status. This paper reports the influence of N application on straighthead symptoms during this experiment. A significant reduction of straighthead occurred with higher rates of N application. Application of 250 kg N/ha pre-flood, improved plant growth and vigour with subsequent increased uptake and accumulation of S, P, K, Mg, Cu, Mn and Zn in the plant at panicle initiation. The reduction of straighthead at high nitrogen rates may be due to improved uptake of several essential nutrients, and Cu may be a critical nutrient. This study and earlier observations have shown the application of optimal levels of pre-flood nitrogen to achieve grain yields greater than 10 t/ha may reduce straighthead severity in the Australian rice-growing environment. The results in this paper are not presented as recommendations to growers but a contribution to the currently limited literature on straighthead in Australia.

A long-term growth monitoring experiment on Uttis (Alnus nepalensis) was conducted in the permanent sample plots of the Agricultural Research Station (ARS) Pakhribas, Dhankuta for 10 years (1992-2001). The average annual increment was diameter at breast height 2.14 cm in 8th year, and was 0.13 cm at 16th year of planting. The trees grew 44 cm to 130 cm per year irrespective of the age. The highest growth rate correspondend with higher rainfall during summer (March-April). Estimated biomass of stem and branches increased by 2-2.5 times within the 10 years period. Thinning and felling every year indicated need for timely management of the plantation to provide better growing environment. The data would be useful for growth modelling and proper management of Uttis plantation in Nepal . Key words: Nepalese alder vs Uttis, height, diameter, biomass, Pakhribas. Arabinoxylan and beta-glucan contents are limiting factors for a wider use of barley production. Arabinoxylan and beta-glucan contents were assessed in grain samples in sets of seven malting hulled varieties, three hull-less lines and one hull-less spring variety grown in the localities of Branišovice, Žabčice, and Kroměříž in 2009 to 2011. Further, the effect of growing technologies on the level of these non-starch polysaccharides was studied. Variability of arabinoxylan contents was affected most significantly by a genotype and growing technology whereas variability of beta-glucan contents was mostly affected by a genotype and growing environment (interaction of year with locality). The highest values of arabinoxylans and beta-glucans were determined in the grain samples of hull-less lines (KM 1057: 6.16% of arabinoxylans and KM 2084: 6.41% of beta-glucans) and on the contrary, the lowest values of arabinoxylans were found in the grain of hull-less variety AF Lucius (3.85%) and lowest amounts of beta-glucans were found in malting variety Radegast (3.92%). The samples of the growing technology without fungicide treatment had on average more arabinoxylans and beta-glucans than the fungicide non-treated ones.

Fifty-four samples of wheat, representing duplicate samples of nine varieties grown in three environments, were included in chick bioassays using rapidly growing broilers, complete diets, and enzyme supplementation to remove the deleterious effects of non-starch polysaccharides. An insoluble ash marker was included in the diets, which allowed calculation of apparent digestibilities of CP and AA in the grain from analysis of the ileal contents obtained after sacrifice of the chicks at 17 d of age. The wheat cultivars contained from 13.5 to 16.8% CP and differed in the percentage of specific AA, with Pro, Glu and Phe making up proportionately larger parts of high CP samples than low CP samples. Without enzyme supplementation, the digestibility of CP varied from 83 to 88% and that of specific AA from 76 to 94%, determined in part by the class and variety of wheat. Xylanase enzyme supplementation improved the digestibility of protein by an average of 4%, and reduced the differences in digestibility between wheat samples. These results suggest that variation between wheat samples should be taken into consideration when formulating broiler feed, especially when formulation is for specific AA. Enzyme supplementation may provide a partial alternative to using high-quality protein sources or supplementing with synthetic AA. Abstract Background: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is prevalent in adolescents and brings a series of serious consequences to their well-being. Previous studies indicated that the growing environment has a significant impact on adolescents with NSSI, which is little known about the Chinese adolescents. The study aims to investigate the growing environment of Chinese adolescents with NSSI and explore the target of intervention in the growing environment of adolescents with NSSI. Methods: The participants are parents of adolescents with NSSI who responded to a study advert, which was distributed in the psychological ward in China. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and their responses were analyzed by the thematic analysis. Results: 20 participants (16 were mothers, and 4 were fathers) completed the interview. Four themes were identified: Parenting style, Family function, Peer interaction, and Psycho-behavioral factors as well as 14 subthemes. Conclusion: Parents-report demonstrated a series of problems, consisting of Inappropriate parenting style, invalid family function, negative interaction of peer and problematic behavioral factors, etc. This highlight increasing awareness was needed to seek some intervention in the aspects of a growing environment for them.
