The paper deals with the analysis of development and trends in the field of management of naval shipbuilding projects. The introductory part gives an overview of project management in the defense sector as well as in the naval shipbuilding sector. The analysis of naval shipbuilding project management is done through consideration of four criteria: naval strategy and long-term planning, shipbuilding industrial base, workforce, and project management organization. Due to limited resources, five countries were selected: the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom (GBR), Australia (AUS), New Zealand (NZL), and Croatia (HRV). After individual countries have been analysed, synthesis and comparison of results were presented in tabular form. The conclusion is based on global trends in this area, how the naval shipbuilding project management in the Republic of Croatia is harmonized with them, and recommendations for improving the process of managing naval projects in the Republic of Croatia. The scientific contribution of the paper is in defining a systematic approach to managing naval shipbuilding projects that could serve as a generic model on which the future organization and management processes of naval shipbuilding projects in the Republic of Croatia and other maritime countries, that are comparable in economic strength and defense needs, may be founded.

The Keane Company, founded in 1965 by John F. Keane, has grown from a local software service company into a national firm which has three operating divisions and over 45 branches throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Within these operating divisions are multitudes of consulting opportunities, ranging from supplemental staffing, project management and application outsourcing. This case will focus on Keane’s approach to project management and how they provide this service to their clients. This includes not only how Keane is hired for Project Management but how they train their clients on how they too can implement the Keane philosophy of productivity management. Instead of focusing on any one client of Keane, their overall technology strategy will be highlighted, from their early days through the present to illustrate how Keane has successfully incorporated information technology and project management to become a major player in the software service and consulting field. The goal of this case is to provide the student with an example of business-technology strategy in action and allow them to explore future paths that Keane may take based on how they use technology today and in the decade to come. Several discussion questions are included which focus on Keane’s IT strategies and their implementation. These questions can be used to stimulate class discussion or given as written assignments to be handed in.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is an increasing challenge to public health. Tracking the temporal trends of PD burden would inform health strategies. Methods: Data of PD burden was obtained from the Global Burden of Disease 2019. Trends in the incidence, prevalence, and years lived with disability (YLDs) of PD were estimated using the annual percentage change (EAPC) and age-standardized rate (ASR) from 1990 to 2019. The EAPCs were calculated with ASR through a linear regression model. Results: The overall ASR of the incidence, prevalence, and YLDs of PD increased from 1990 to 2019, and their EAPCs were 0.61 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.58–0.65), 0.52 (95% CI: 0.43–0.61), and 0.53 (95% CI: 0.44–0.62). The largest number of PD patients was seen in the groups aged more than 65 years, and the percentage rapidly increased in the population aged more than 80 years. Upward trends in the ASR of PD were observed in most settings over the past 30 years. Incident trends of ASR increased pronouncedly in the United States of America and Norway, in which the respective EAPCs were 2.87 (95% CI: 2.35–3.38) and 2.14 (95% CI: 2.00–2.29). Additionally, the largest increasing trends for prevalence and YLDs were seen in Norway, with the respective EAPCs of 2.63 (95% CI: 2.43–2.83) and 2.61 (95% CI: 2.41–2.80). However, decreasing trends in PD appeared in about 30 countries, particularly Italy and the Republic of Moldova. Conclusions: Increasing trends in the burden of PD were observed globally, and in most regions and countries from 1990 to 2019. Our findings suggested that the control and management of PD should be strengthened, especially when considering the aging tendency of the population.

The issues of improving the system of public administration are particularly relevant in times of radical restructuring of the state-legal superstructure of society. The changes taking place in Russia and its regions as a whole did not always correspond unambiguously to reality. This article discusses some proposals aimed primarily at improving the efficiency of management processes at the regional level – in the Republic of Dagestan. As such, two interrelated projects are analyzed: project management and lean government. Priority development projects of the Republic covered all significant areas of Dagestan society and were aimed at achieving tangible results. The author also points out the problems with their implementation due to insufficient elaboration and political instability in the Republic. The implementation of the pilot project "lean government" should optimize the work of state bodies. A significant difference between the project is that it is a system product.

The study is dedicated to various jurisdictions’ approaches to cryptocurrency relations regulation. The digital assets'legal status in the European Union is analyzed both at the central level as well at the level of such EU members as Malta, Romania, Germany. Among the countries that geographically belong to Europe, but are not members of the European Union, Switzerland and the United Kingdom are considered in this aspect. The authors also reviewed the most important issues of cryptocurrency regulation in the largest economy in the world - the United States. The Asian region is represented in the study by the jurisdictions where digital assets are most widespread (China and Japan). The main conclusion is that the Republic of Moldova should develop the balanced approach to legalizing the new sphere of socio-economic relations by taking into consideration both positive and negative experience as well as the best legal practices of other states in this field.

Several outbreaks of infectious intestinal disease (IID) among passengers on board tour coaches have been reported in the Republic of Ireland in September 2002. Most of the affected passengers have been elderly people from the United States and the United Kingdom. Microbiological confirmation is awaited, but clinically and epidemiologically the illness is consistent with Norwalk-like virus (NLV) infection (1). Similar outbreaks were described in Scotland earlier this summer (2).

The article explores the author’s experience of crafting legal actions meant to bring a case against the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom for the genocidal conditions that arose from their actions against the people of Iraq from 1991 to 2003. Based on a similar effort, successfully brought to the International Court of Justice on behalf of the people and Republic of Bosnia in 1993, the strong potential for a legal and peaceful remedy to bring an end to Iraqi civilian suffering ‐ as well as the potential to avert a future war ‐ existed and drove the author to implore Iraqi legal action before the ICJ. Iraqi state officials, from the President’s Office to that of Deputy PM Tariq Aziz, through Iraqi diplomats in New York, were canvassed and engaged in an effort for the author to receive their support to act on Iraq’s behalf at the ICJ. Published here is the author’s recollection of this effort to prosecute international crimes against the Iraqi people as well as an overview of the ICJ case that while never brought forward, could have prevented the 2003 invasion and its aftermath.

This paper examines how contextual and institutional factors are associated with individual subjective well-being, which is measured by individuals’ happiness, during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using data collected in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the Republic of Korea, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom (UK), and the four biggest states of the United States (US) in April 2020, we find that the financial effects (represented by employment and income change) and nonfinancial effects (represented by experiencing negative nonfinancial effects including mental health issues and enjoying positive benefits) caused by nonpharmaceutical measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 are associated with individual subjective well-being. Moreover, positive benefits could reduce the likelihood of becoming unhappy for those who have experienced negative nonfinancial effects or those who have lost their jobs. The results also suggest that the degree to which people agree with their government’s approach to dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic is positively correlated with their happiness. The risks associated with the pandemic, however, are only slightly associated with people’s happiness. We also find that the correlation between the above factors and individual well-being varies from country to country.
