Background The number of pet cats is increasing in most countries, often outnumbering pet dogs, yet cats receive less veterinary care than their canine counterparts. 1 Clients state the difficulty of getting the cat into a carrier at home, driving to the clinic, and dealing with the fearful cat at the veterinary clinic as reasons for fewer visits. 2 Educating and preparing the client and the veterinary team with regard to respectful feline handling is necessary in order to avoid stress and accomplish the goal of good health care. Without such preparation, feline stress may escalate into fear or fear-associated aggression. The resulting stress may alter results of the physical examination and laboratory tests, leading to incorrect diagnoses (eg, diabetes mellitus) and unnecessary treatments. 3 – 5 Without compassionate and respectful handling by the veterinary team, clients may feel the team lacks skills and compassion, or does not understand cats. Injury may occur to the cat, client and/or veterinary team. 6 Clients who want to avoid stress for their cat may avoid veterinary visits or choose another practice instead. Goals The use of feline-friendly handling techniques should reduce these problems. Handling is most successful when the veterinary team adapts the approach to each individual cat and situation. The goal of these guidelines is to provide useful information for handling cats that can lead to: Reduced fear and pain for the cat. Reinforced veterinarian—client—cat bond, trust and confidence, and thus better lifelong medical care for the cat. Improved efficiency, productivity and job satisfaction for the veterinary team. Increased client compliance. Timely reporting and early detection of medical and behavioral concerns. Fewer injuries to clients and the veterinary team. Reduced anxiety for the client.

Abstract The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak has killed over 725,000 people since its emergence in late 2019. As of early August 2020, there has been substantial variability in the policies and intensity of diagnostic efforts between countries. In this paper, we quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of the national contact tracing policy in decreasing case fatality rates of COVID-19 in 40 countries. Our regression analyses indicate that countries that utilize comprehensive contact tracing have significantly lower case fatality rates. The association of contact tracing policy and case fatality rates is robust and observed in regression models using cross-sectional and panel data, even controlling for the number of tests conducted and non-pharmaceutical control measures adopted by governments. Our results suggest that comprehensive contact tracing is instrumental not only to curtailing transmission but also to reducing case fatality rates by early detection and isolation of secondary cases and ultimately diminishing the burden on the healthcare system and speeding the rate at which infected individuals receive the medical care they need to maximize their chance of recovery.

Aim. To analyze the state of antiglaucoma work in Perm and determine the necessary organizational measures, permitting to improve early detection of glaucoma and quality of patients’ follow-up observation. Materials and methods. Retrospective analysis of reports of ophthalmologists from 15 treatment-and-prophylactic institutions of Perm and statistical reports of Medicosocial Examination Bureau for 7 years (2010-2016) was carried out. Results. Morbidity index in Perm during 2010-2016 does not reveal an evident dynamics and ranges 0.69 to 0.7 per 1000 of the adult population. Prevalence of glaucoma is 10.95-11.8 per 1000 of the adult population. The share of patients with first-diagnosed degree I-II glaucomas ranged from 81.1 % to 86.4 %. Conclusions. The centralized system of rendering qualified medical care permits to develop and observe specialized standards of antiglaucoma activity, to introduce the recent scientific designs, to train medical staff for management of patients.

The purpose of the study was to determine the main directions in the activity of a medical assistant for early detection of breast cancer based on the analysis of the organization of the disease diagnosis at the present stage. Results. It was found that structuring the diagnostic process taking into account risk factors will allow the medical assistant to independently organize early detection of pathology, which will reduce the number of advanced forms of breast cancer and save the lives of patients. Conclusion. At the stage of training a mid-level specialist in the specialty 31.02.01 Medical Care, it is necessary to form professional competence to detect precancerous diseases and malignant neoplasms, determine visual and palpatory localization and refer patients with suspected malignancy and precancerous diseases to the primary oncological office of a medical organization in accordance with the procedure for providing medical care to the population in the "Oncology" profile.
