<p>A novel technique of multiplexing called Tributary Mapping Multiplexing (TMM) is<br />applied to a single channel wavelength division multiplexing system and performance is monitored on the basis of simulation results. To elaborate the performance of TMM in this paper, a 4-User TMM system over single wavelength channel is demonstrated. TMM showed significant tolerance against narrow optical filtering as compared to that of conventional TDM at the rate of 40 Gbit/s. The above calculations are made by optical filter bandwidth and dispersion tolerance that was allowed at minimum. The spectral efficiency achieved by this TMM was 1 b/s/Hz and it was executed by using transmitters and receivers of 10 Gbit/s without polarized multiplexing. The high spectral efficiency, high dispersion tolerance and tolerance against strong optical filtering makes TMM an efficient technique for High<br />Speed Fiber Optic Communication.</p>

Abstract An intensity modulated fiber-optic carbon monoxide (CO) sensor by integrating in-situ solvothermal-growth Ag/Co-MOF sensing film is fabricated and evaluated. The Michelson interference sensing structure is composed of single-mode fiber (SMF), enlarged taper, thin-core fiber (TCF), and Ag film as the reflector. Ag/Co-MOF was coated on the cladding of the TCF as the sensing material, and the enlarged taper is located between TCF and SMF as the coupler. The structure, morphology, compositions and thermal stability of the Ag/Co-MOF sensing film were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), etc. The sensitivity of the sensor is 0.04515 dB/ppm, and the fitting parameter of the CO concentration is 0.99876. In addition, the sensor has the advantages of good selectivity, good signal and temperature stability, and it has potential application in trace CO detection.

The enhanced ability to detect accurate location and measure the depth of a   metal inside a biological tissue is very useful in the assessment of medical condition and treatment. This manuscript proposed a solution via the measurement of the tissue properties using magnetic induction spectroscopy (MIS) method to describe the characterization of biological soft tissue. The objective of this study is to explore the viability of locating embedded metal inside a biological tissue by measuring the differences the biological tissue electrical properties using principle of Magnetic Induction Spectroscopy (MIS). Simulation is done using COMSOL Multiphysics software for accurate information on the involved parameters for both metal and biological tissues. Simulation has confirmed that MIS capable of detecting and locate embedded metal inside a biological tissue.

In this report, we present the characteristics of a Cl- channel found in lens fiber cells. The single channel has a conductance of 17 pS, a linear current-voltage curve, is activated by ATP or strong depolarization and is blocked by verapamil, quinidine, 4,4'-diisothiocyanostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid, 5-nitro-2-(3- phenylpropylamino)benzoate, dideoxyforskolin, and tamoxifen. These properties are similar to those reported for a volume-activated Cl- channel associated with the multidrug resistance (MDR) gene product, P glycoprotein (24). Confirming this connection, we demonstrate that our lens Cl- channel is inhibited by an antibody to P glycoprotein. The data we present here may, therefore, be the first characterization of the single channel activity of the Cl- channel associated with P glycoprotein.
