OBJECTIVES: To provide an overview of measurement properties of the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center Questionnaire (OSTRCQ), pain visual analogue scale (VAS-pain) and Self-Estimated Functional Inability Because of Pain (SEFIP) scale in dance populations, and to investigate the relationship between these questionnaires in pre-professional contemporary dancers. METHODS: A search of PubMed was conducted and studies were included if they 1) used one of the three questionnaires within a dance population and 2) assessed the reliability, validity, or responsiveness of the questionnaire(s). 134 dance students (67.5% female; 19.4±1.5 yrs) were prospectively followed during 1 academic year. The OSTRCQ, VAS-pain, SEFIP, and injuries were self-assessed on a monthly basis. Pearson correlation analyses and repeated measures correlation analyses were performed to identify possible associations. RESULTS: The literature overview resulted in two studies describing measurement properties of the SEFIP (n=1) and OSTRCQ (n=1). Prevalence of injuries ranged from 23.1 to 42.6%. Weak monthly correlations (r=0.14–0.50) were found between OSTRCQ and SEFIP. Moderate monthly correlations (r=0.54–0.71) were found between OSTRCQ and VAS-pain, and weak/moderate monthly correlations (r=0.30–0.62) were found between SEFIP and VAS-pain. Repeated measures correlation demonstrated a moderate overall correlation between ORSTCQ and VAS-pain (r=0.57), with weak overall correlations between ORSTCQ and SEFIP (r=0.26) and SEFIP and VAS-pain (r=0.34). CONCLUSIONS: Studies on measurement properties of questionnaires in dance are scarce. Weak/moderate associations were found between the OSTRCQ, SEFIP, and the VAS-pain questionnaires. Future high-quality research should investigate measurement properties of these questionnaires within dance populations. The results contribute by substantiating choices when developing a surveillance system.

Background:Little is known about the relationship between children’s physical activity (PA) in preschool (in-school) and outside of preschool (out-of-school). This study described this relationship. Methods:Participants were 341 children (4.6 ± 0.3 years) in 16 preschools. Accelerometers measured moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and total physical activity (TPA) in-school and out-of-school. In the full sample, Pearson correlation was used to describe associations between in-school and out-of-school PA. In addition, children were categorized as meeting or not meeting a PA guideline during school. MVPA and TPA were compared between the 2 groups and in-school and out-of-school using 2-way repeated-measures analysis of variance. Results:In the full sample, in-school and out-of-school PA were positively correlated for MVPA (r = .13, P = .02) and TPA (r = .15, P = .01). Children who met the guideline in-school remained comparably active out-of-school. However, those who did not meet the guideline were more active out-of-school than in-school. The groups were active at comparable levels while out-of-school. Identical patterns were seen for MVPA and TPA.Conclusions:Children’s in-school PA was positively associated with out-of-school PA. Children who did not meet the guideline in-school were more active out-of-school than in-school, suggesting preschool and classroom factors may reduce some children’s PA in-school.

Abstract Purpose: To analyze the changes of near binocular vision function after small incision lenticule extraction and association with asthenopia. Methods: This was a retrospective study.Twenty-five myopic patients who underwent small incision lenticular extraction (SMILE) surgery from Tianjin Eye Hospital were included in this study. The values of parameters of near binocular vision function were measured at preoperative, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months postoperatively including near heterophoria, near point convergence (NPC), horizontal base-in fusional reserves (BIFR) and base-out fusional reserves (BOFR). The patients were grouped by the preoperative symptoms scores. The comparisons among different follow-up periods were conducted by the repeated measures analysis of variance. The Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was used to evaluate the linear fit of the relationship between variables. Multiple linear regressions were used to analyze the relationship between asthenopia and parameters of binocular and accommodative function. Results: The NPC significantly increased at 1 week and 1 month after SMILE and then get back to the level of preoperatively in 3 months postoperatively. Near heterophoria significantly decreased at 1 week after SMILE and then remained stable in 3 months postoperatively. In the regression analysis, there was no significant association between the values of the fatigue questionnaire at different stages after SMILE operation and the parameters of near binocular visual function (P>0.05). However, there was significant positive correlation among each visit with the preoperative visual fatigue questionnaire(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the parameters of binocular visual function between the normal group and the fatigue group. For the visual fatigue group, there was positive correlation between the score of visual fatigue questionnaire 1 week after SMILE surgery and the difference in near horizontal phoria between 1w postoperative and that preoperative (r=0.523, P=0.046), and significant negative correlation with the recovery point of BOFR at 1 week (r=-0.581, P=0.023). Conclusion: SMILE surgery wouldn’t influence the binocular vision in the short term. Since there was no significant association between binocular vision function and visual fatigue, factors of asthenopia in the early period of SMILE surgery should be further studied.

ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the stability of maxillary interincisor diastema closure and the relationship between space relapse and interincisor diastema width, overjet, overbite, angulations between adjacent maxillary anterior teeth and presence of intermaxillary osseous cleft after orthodontic treatment with extractions. Materials and Methods Twenty-four individuals with a maxillary interincisor diastema pretreatment, treated with maxillary first premolar extractions were evaluated. Dental casts and panoramic radiographs taken at pretreatment (T1), posttreatment (T2), and posttreatment follow-up (T3) were assessed. Periapical radiographs at T1 and T2 were also evaluated. Diastema relapse was assumed when T3-T2 interincisor space change was greater than zero. Diastema relapse was considered clinically significant when it was at least 0.50 mm. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance followed by post hoc Tukey tests or Friedman followed by Wilcoxon tests. T-test or Mann-Whitney U-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analyses were also performed. Results No statistically significant relapse of maxillary interincisor diastemas was found. The percentage of clinically significant relapse of the maxillary interincisor diastemas was 27.78%. Specifically, for the interincisor midline diastema, it was 8.33%. Conclusions Maxillary interincisor diastema closure showed no statistically significant relapse after orthodontic treatment with premolar extractions. Clinically significant stability for maxillary interincisor diastema closure was 72.22% and, specifically, for interincisor midline diastema closure, it was 91.67%.
