McCarney, Rosemary. The Way to School. Toronto: Second Story Press, 2015. PrintThe book is able to show that different communities have very distinct experiences when going to school and a number of them not too pleasant. For example, children are shown wading through a river, climbing ladders up a river bank, riding a zip-line and crossing a single-wire bridge.  Despite all these differences the book shows how much children love being in school.With clear and high quality photos, the book is able to demonstrate the different experiences. The photos have captured different sceneries and landscapes that ably demonstrate the different worlds the children come from. The photos add a lot of wonderful content to the story. As the photos demonstrate different communities it is therefore easy for children from various communities to relate with the story as well as appreciate the differences.This book shows both boys and girls going to school.  Education of girls is one of author Rosemary McCarney’s goals.  McCarney leads Plan International Canada and helped found the “Because I am a Girl” initiative. This is book is recommended for public libraries and children’s rooms everywhere.Highly recommended: 4 stars out of 4Reviewer: Nasra GathoniNasra is a Health Sciences Librarian at the Aga Khan University in Nairobi, Kenya. In the system of school education of the Kyrgyz Republic, the problem of developing electronic educational material and introducing it into the educational process of schools is becoming urgent. This goal allows the further implementation of the issue of computerization of school education. This article focuses on the quality of education. To achieve high-quality modern training, the use of electronic materials is required. Electronic materials must be designed in accordance with the rules. Therefore, the content of this article is aimed at revealing the importance of e-learning, at developing electronic materials, at characterizing the requirements for compiling electronic materials and the requirements for using electronic educational materials.

To meet the current needs of researchers who perform systematic reviews in health care settings, libraries need to provide high-quality educational services for researchers as part of their systematic review services. A team of librarians with diverse skills is also important for ensuring the growth and sustainability of systematic review services. This commentary describes a new team-based systematic review service model that can transform systematic review services by providing a pathway for librarians to offer a comprehensive educational service for systematic review research in a variety of health sciences library settings.

Dr Richard Kim is currently a professor and the chair of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Western University and the Director for the Centre for Clinical Investigation and Therapeutics at the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). He also holds the Wolfe Medical Research Chair in Pharmacogenomics and is at the forefront of advancing the specialty of clinical pharmacology—a growing field that promises to change the way we deliver healthcare in Canada and abroad. Abstract. After six years in office as the editor of the Journal of Micropalaeontology, my time in post has come to an end, and as this will be my final issue of the Journal it is time to hand over the reins. At the AGM of TMS a new editor was elected; Professor Alan Lord and I know that he will do a great job.As has been reported over the last year or so at the AGM and in TMS Newsletter, there will be some significant changes afoot for the Journal which I have been involved with over the last couple of years. This negotiation has resulted in a new publishing contract for the Journal of Micropalaeontology with the Geological Society of London (GSL), and its publisher the Geological Society Publishing House (GSPH). This will relieve our Society of the financial burden of paying for the production of the Journal. We will exercise the same editorial control we have always had, and although the GSPH is run as a commercial concern by the Geological Society they, as a learned society themselves, place great emphasis on not interfering with the running of society Journals, and respect the academic nature of our science. The format of the Journal will remain the same, with continued emphasis on excellent international science and high-quality plate production.There will, however, be some significant changes regarding the way papers are submitted and dealt with. The main one will be the initiation of online submission and manuscript handling . . .

I am delighted to welcome you to the 13th edition of the Association of Anaesthetists’ Trainee Handbook. The main objective of the handbook is to offer trainees a comprehensive resource as you navigate your way through your career. A vast array of high-quality authors have been commissioned to write about their specialist field or area of knowledge. Whatever path you choose to take, I believe you will find useful sections within this handbook. Training within anaesthesia is constantly evolving. As I write this foreword, a new training curriculum is being implemented. To reflect the changes ahead, this handbook is not only fully interactive but also a live document. Thus, it will be updated at regular intervals to ensure information remains accurate and relevant. Although this handbook is designed for you to dip in and out of, I strongly encourage you to read the chapters about taking care of yourself. Training is a challenging time, but here at the Association of Anaesthetists we are dedicated to supporting our trainee members. I would like to personally thank all the authors who contributed to this handbook. This chapter examines the medical challenges posed by the increased number of gunshot wounds during the civil wars, and sets out the changes in the way these wounds were treated. The treatment of battlefield wounds expounded in surgeons’ manuals, is placed in context with what we now understand about the biology, pathology and effective treatment methods for wounds. The techniques used by the civil-war surgeon are compared with those of later periods. Despite a lack of understanding of microbiology, physiology and, in many cases, anatomy, many methods employed by civil-war military surgeons reflect good contemporary surgical practice. Despite the lack of antibiotics, anaesthetics, hygienic environments and high-quality surgical implements, survival rates from injuries on the field arrear to have been considerable, if treated. In developing treatments for the problems posed by gunshot wounds, some civil-war surgeons used an evidence-based approach, and laid the foundations for much modern surgical practice.

The practice of working with business cases contradicts all basic school education organizations' canons. Judge for yourself: the authors of the cases do not know initially how to solve them. They often do not even guess which methods they should use to do so. Moreover, they are not always sure that they formulate the problem correctly. However, students for some reason find such problems to be the most interesting to solve. The middle adolescence is the age when young people are in search of themselves. Therefore, these cases, dictated by the chaos of a changing life, serve as a real window to the world of future destiny for them. The chapter will consider the process of selecting enterprises that can become the authors of cases, reveal the stages of case creation, describe the problems that the designers of cases are faced with, analyze in detail the experience of organizing the educational process based on cases with schoolchildren, and provide examples of high quality scientific and technological cases.

This chapter describes recent research findings on homelessness in the United States and its relationship to poverty and other related factors. It also provides an introduction to text clusters, a curricular resource that includes high-quality and award-winning picture books and is anchored in the Way-In and Stay-In books. It continues by presenting a text cluster on the topic of homelessness, along with a variety of research-based instructional strategies that K-8 teachers can use with this text cluster, as well as with other text clusters on controversial issues. It ends with some final thoughts.

The term ‘livres d’artistes’ hides from view creative artworks, whose presence in special library collections is justified by their artistic and literary value but also by their value as witness of their times. After defining the content of these collections, this article analyses the way ‘livres d’artistes’ are managed. Because they are different from all other books, they struggle to find their public. Active promotion is thus an essential step in making them properly influential.
