There are millions of base stations distributed across China, each containing many support devices and monitoring sensors. Conventional base station management systems tend to be hosted in the cloud, but cloud-based systems are difficult to reprogram and performing tasks in real-time is sometimes problematic, for example, sounding a combination of alarms or executing linked tasks. To overcome these drawbacks, we propose a hybrid edge-cloud IoT base station system, called BSIS. This paper includes a theoretical mathematical model that demonstrates the dynamic characteristics of BSIS along with a formulation for implementing BSIS in practice. Embedded programmable logic controllers serve as the edge nodes; a dynamic programming method creates a seamless integration between the edge nodes and the cloud. The paper concludes with a series of comprehensive analyses on scalability, responsiveness, and reliability. These analyses indicate a possible 60% reduction in the number of alarms, an edge response time of less than 0.1s, and an average downtime ratio of 0.66%.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to evaluate performance of mobile communication system with reliability measures. Design/methodology/approach – The mobile communication system consists of a mobile station (MS), base transceiver station (BTS), base station controller (BSC) and the mobile switching center. The MS is connected to BTS, BTS is connected to BSC and BSC is connected with the mobile switching system. With the help of these stations working, the authors have developed a mathematical model using Markovian approach. Findings – Using the supplementary variable technique, the Laplace transformations and Markov process theory, the reliability indices of the mobile communication system are determined. Originality/value – In the present work, the authors have developed a mathematical model based on a mobile communication system.

The most profound requirements of fifth-generation (5G) technology implementations are the architecture design and the radio base station technology to capably run applications such as device-to-device, machine-to machine and internet of things at a reduced latency. Owing to these requirements, the implementation of 5G technology is very expensive to mobile network operators (MNO). In this study we modified the existing 4G network to form a distributed wireless network architecture (DWNA); the picocell and distributed antenna system were modified to support the enabling technology of 5G technology were a multi-edge computer (MEC), software-defined networking (SDN), massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO), ultra-dense network (UDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and device-to-device (D2D) communication at a reduced cost of ownership, improved coverage and capacity. We present a mathematical model for operational expenditure, capital expenditure and total cost of ownership (TCO) for the DWNA. A mathematical model for DWNA capacity and throughput was presented. Result shows that it is very economical for MNO to rent the space of the tower infrastructure from tower companies. The sensitivity analysis also shows a significant reduction in TCO for both the modified picocell and modified distributed antenna systems.

Penggunaan Teknologi Komunikasi pada dekade ini menunjukkan peningkatan trafik data yang sangat signifikan. Dalam hal ini, operator jaringan seluler melakukan inovasi untuk mengurangi jumlah penggunaan energi yang ditimbulkan dari banyaknya jumlah energi yang digunakan tanpa mengurangi quality of service (QoS) kepada costumer. Tujuan pemanfaatan penggunaan energi ini supaya operator jaringan lebih efisiendan tidak mengurangi tingkat efektifitas dalam pemakaian energi yang dikeluarkan. Paper ini menjelaskan mengenai pemakaian jaringan dengan teknologi teknik Base-Station Sleep-Mode. Metode ini akan menjalankan auto controluntuk menjalankan fungsinya pada pemancar jaringan, sehingga dibutuhkan sebuah pendekatan untuk memproses dengan menggunakan parameter-parameter yang dibutuhkan diantaranya User Association, SON (Self-Organizing Network), Cell Zooming, Traffic Prediction, dan Heterogenous Deployment. Salah satu hasil penelitian dari BS Sleeping mode menunjukkan hasil yaitu didapatkan nilai efisiensi energi hingga 90% pada akhir pekan di area bisnis dan perkantoran, dan 30-40%.
