Question: This article is a report on a meeting of "publication planning", the organizational and practical work that shapes pharmaceutical companies' data and eventually turns it into medical journal articles, especially those reporting on clinical trials. Material and Methods: Our report is primarily based on information presented at the 2007 annual meeting of the International Society of Medical Planning Professionals (ISMPP) attended by one of us, including a workshop entitled "Publication Planning 101/201". The article is a narrative review based on statements made at the 2007 ISMPP meeting, on advertisements by publication planning agencies, and on previous reports and background literature. Findings: We argue that the main purpose of publication planning is to create and communicate scientific information to support the marketing of products. We provide some analysis of the role of publication planning in medical publishing, and its implications for the structuring of medical knowledge. Medical literature relevant to current drugs is to a large extent shaped by commercial interests.

Abstract This essay examines contemporary Tibetan medical literature that deals with menstruation, focusing on the relations among medical, religious and cultural perceptions of women and gender. Present-day medical writers present a hybrid account of menstruation, incorporating key aspects of Tibetan medicine, such as the refining processes of digestion and the red element, with biomedical knowledge, notably the role of hormones. The integration of biomedical thought by Tibetan writers works to substantiate and bolster the validity of Tibetan medical claims, rather than discredit them. Consequently, contemporary writers are able to articulate medical knowledge about women that is as much about Tibetan religious and cultural perceptions of gender and sexed-bodies, as it is ‘scientific’.

I was appointed the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Malawi Medical Journal (MMJ), a periodical of the Malawi College of Medicine (www.medcol.mw) and the Medical Association of Malawi (MAM) in February 2019. It is a daunting task certainly to be at the helm of such a prestigious medical journal indexed in/by almost all the databases that matter in medical publishing. Our journal has published since the 1970s, first as the Medical Quarterly, and later as the Malawi Medical Journal.

Abstract This article is a brief review of the clinical, radiographic, and pathologic features of Pick disease. It is directed toward residents and fellows in training as well as practicing physicians who might wish to find a concise treatise on this clinicopathologic entity. The pathogenesis and genetics of this disorder are discussed. Included are medical journal articles accessed from computerized medical literature searches of articles published in the last 10 years. Pertinent images have been included where necessary. Although ubiquitously discussed in medical school and residency, Pick disease is nevertheless a relatively uncommon clinicopathologic entity. Recognition of its clinical and pathologic manifestations is critical in correctly diagnosing this illness and subsequently educating family members of the deceased.

A könyvismertetések száma 211-ről 52-re csökkent (p = 0,01). A laparoszkópos sebészetben elsősorban a cholecystectomiával szerzett tapasztalatokat ismertették.

The role of networks is swiftly increasing in the production and communication of scientific knowledge. Network aspects have, therefore, an ever growing importance in the analysis of the scientific enterprise, as well. The present paper demonstrates some techniques of studying the network of scientific journals on the subject of seeking the position of Orvosi Hetilap (Hungarian Medical Journal) in the international journal network. Recent news stories, medical journal articles, and two state voter referenda have publicized physicians’ providing their patients with aid-in-dying. This Note distinguishes two components of aid-in-dying: physician-assisted suicide and physiciancommitted voluntary active euthanasia. The Note traces these components’ distinct historical and legal treatments and critically examines arguments for and against both types of action. This Note concludes that aid-in-dying measures should limit legalization initiatives to physician-assisted suicide and should not embrace physician-committed voluntary active euthanasia.

AbstractThe paper’s intention is to provide the correspondence of the globalization and the diversity in the management in this current trade era. The aim of the article is to understand the leader’s role in diversity management which is rapidly changing the global trade market more clearly. Globalization has a very big influence on the diversity management these days, both directly and indirectly. This study is based on a systematic review of 14 journal articles presented on the concerned topic. It is divided into three main parts: the paper describes benefits of diversity management, leader’s role and the challenges which leaders face while playing the role in the diverse management. In the review, it was found that “diversity” in the workplace is one of the most important factors to run the business or corporation smoothly and workplaces are truly benefitted by the management of the diversity. It works as an “aid to trade” in the performance of the workforce in the corporate culture. Next, we explained the challenges which leaders face and how to avoid those by taking initial steps. The paper ends up by providing discussions, limitations of the previous literature and some suggestions to the future researchers.

Pharmaceutical companies have long relied on direct marketing of their drugs to physicians through one-on-one meetings with sales representatives. This practice of “detailing” is substantial in its costs and its number of participants. Every year, pharmaceutical companies spend billions of dollars on millions of visits to physicians by tens of thousands of sales representatives.Critics have argued that drug detailing results in sub-optimal prescribing decisions by physicians, compromising patient health and driving up spending on medical care. In this view, physicians often are unduly influenced both by marketing presentations that do not accurately reflect evidence from the medical literature and by the gifts that sales representatives deliver in conjunction with their presentations.
