The insurance industry is heavily dependent on several processes executed among multiple entities, such as insurer, insured, and third-party services. The increasingly competitive environment is pushing insurance companies to use advanced technologies to address multiple challenges, namely lack of trust, lack of transparency, and economic instability. To this end, blockchain is used as an emerging technology that enables transparent and secure data storage and transmission. In this paper, we propose CioSy, a collaborative blockchain-based insurance system for monitoring and processing the insurance transactions. To the best of our knowledge, the existing approaches do not consider collaborative insurance to achieve an automated, transparent, and tamper-proof solution. CioSy aims at automating the insurance policy processing, claim handling, and payment using smart contracts. For validation purposes, an experimental prototype is developed on Ethereum blockchain. Our experimental results show that the proposed approach is both feasible and economical in terms of time and cost.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the gender-based discrimination in car insurance rates and whether the reasons provided by the car insurance companies for the different rates are valid or not. The paper studies the average annual premiums paid by men and women across different age groups from 16 years old to over 56 years old along with the percentage differences. Additionally, the concept of big data and how it is utilized by businesses to apply personalize price discrimination is investigated. The research design is conclusive and secondary data is used in both qualitative and quantitative forms. Qualitative data is collected from articles for the literature review and as for the quantitative data it is in the form of reports and surveys. The data shows that at lower age groups women pay less than men for car insurance but as the age increase men start paying less. The paper reaches a conclusion that gender is not necessarily a crucial risk-factor as the regular factors such as driving record can provided accurate risk determinants.

Insurance is an important element of the functioning of the infrastructure of market relations in any industrially developed country. The activity of insurance companies abroad allows accumulating huge financial resources. This contributes to the fact that the insurance sector begins to compete fiercely with the banking sector, investment and mutual funds, and also has a significant impact on the economy of the state, acting as a major investor in the national economy. Currently, the insurance industry in Russia is actively developing. Therefore, at the present stage of economic development, organization and control issues, in particular internal control, play an important role in the activities of companies.

The aim of this paper is to study the stability of the Islamic financial system. To do this, we are interested in the scoring method and the volatility of stock market indices. The first empirical study includes all the components of the financial system, in particular, banks, insurance companies, leasing, factoring and investments companies. The results of this study suggest that, Islamic finance saw a loss of 0.014% of its stability score, in 2007, against 0.43% and 1.675% for conventional finance, respectively in 2007 and 2008. In contrast, during the period of the Arab revolutions only Islamic finance depreciated. In order to refine our research, we used the autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticit models to study the volatility of the DJ index and the DJIM index. The empirical results reveal that, the DJIM index is less volatile than the DJ index of emerging countries, Europe, Asia and the United States. However, the DJ Global Index is less volatile than the DJIM index, which seems paradoxical compared to previous results. From then on, we studied the volatility of the two indices before, during and after the crisis. The empirical results reveal that, the DJIM index is much more stable than the DJ index during the crisis (2007-2009). On the other hand, before and after the crisis (2002-2006 and 2010-2015), the DJ Global index is more stable but the difference is insignificant.
