AbstractThe first few months of 2020 have profoundly changed the way we live our lives and carry out our daily activities. Although the widespread use of futuristic robotaxis and self-driving commercial vehicles has not yet become a reality, the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically accelerated the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in different fields. We have witnessed the equivalent of two years of digital transformation compressed into just a few months. Whether it is in tracing epidemiological peaks or in transacting contactless payments, the impact of these developments has been almost immediate, and a window has opened up on what is to come. Here we analyze and discuss how AI can support us in facing the ongoing pandemic. Despite the numerous and undeniable contributions of AI, clinical trials and human skills are still required. Even if different strategies have been developed in different states worldwide, the fight against the pandemic seems to have found everywhere a valuable ally in AI, a global and open-source tool capable of providing assistance in this health emergency. A careful AI application would enable us to operate within this complex scenario involving healthcare, society and research.

Digitalization affects every aspect of a firm’s business model–from front-end to back-office, from how firms create value for their customers to how they capture value– and doing so can reshape every facet of the firm. By adapting their business models to the possibilities of technology, firms are facing an accelerating transformation of their activities, offering new opportunities for “out-of-the-box” development of new processes and tools, which effectively challenge deeply engrained functional silo- based thinking. Despite the ubiquity of digital transformation, much academic research still seems to take a functional view (Verhoef et al. 2019), where information systems look into the development and adoption of specific technologies (Nambisan et al. 2017) or analytics schemes (Davenport and Ronanki 2018), strategic management research focuses on understanding the role of new digitalized business models (Foss and Saebi, 2017), and marketing research focuses on what is generally called “digital marketing” or the development of an omni-channel environment (Verhoef et al. 2015; Lamberton and Stephen 2016; Kannan and Li 2017).

In the digital era, organizations are increasingly tasked with creating and utilizing new content, applications, and/or services through the use of advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) to sustain a competitive advantage. Indeed, sustainability is now an embedded and overarching feature of organizations’ strategic planning. Research has shown that information technology (IT) departments are vital to organizations’ digital transformation. However, the role of IT departments in non-ICT-oriented organizations undergoing digital transformation has yet to be explored. Our study reveals that although the IT departments of non-ICT-oriented organizations play an important and proactive role in the early stages of organizational transformation and a dominant role in developing ICT capabilities, they will be unable to assume a leadership role within the organizations after transformation is complete.

The study aimed to identify the important role that digital transformation plays in activating and developing e-learning, as digital transformation has radically changed in all fields, especially in the field of education, as it allowed the emergence of modern educational methods and methods. With the rapid development in the world of technology and the trend of governments and institutions towards digital in all their services by providing digital services in a smooth and easy way that saves effort, time and money for the beneficiaries, in our current era all institutions have been keen to adopt the concept of digital transformation by replacing traditional digital processes, and developing plans and strategies to ensure the achievement of Its objectives are of quality and efficiency, as the digital transformation is able to create a competitive and attractive technical environment that achieves the highest levels of quality at the lowest costs, and that the spread and use of everything digital has accelerated over the past ten years Several challenges have imposed on traditional education, especially in light of the Corona pandemic (Covid-19), which makes relying on traditional educational methods difficult, so the study came with the aim of identifying the role of digital transformation (digital learning) at King Khalid University on the development and effectiveness of e-learning in light of the pandemic The paper followed the inductive approach and the qualitative approach. Observation, reports, documentary information and King Khalid University websites were used to collect data. The concepts of digital transformation as well as e-learning were addressed, and then a set of results were reached. King Khalid University is distinguished by the existence of an effective electronic system, that the technical environment for information technology has enabled King Khalid University to face the rapid change in the work environment, and the study concluded some recommendations. One of them is that digital transformation is no longer an option, rather it has become a necessity, so it is necessary to keep pace with technological developments and to benefit from them in the transformation towards digital learning.
