For the conception of sustainable development the elaboration of indicators allowing to determine its tendencies is of major importance. The practice shows that the lists of sustainable development criteria suggested at present do not take into consideration the pecularities of particular regions. Modern theories of sustainable development consider this phenomenon in three aspects: economic, ecological and social. The article considers the tendencies of sustainable development in the social sphere in Latgale in comparison to other regions of Latvia. The indicator here is the condition and possibilities of development of human capital (decent life for generations). The method of the research is the analysis of the statistical data. The conclusion is made on the basis of the research that the situation in the social sphere of Latgale does not correspond to the requirements of sustainable development. Research has two aims: to check the criteria of sustainbility development often mentioned in scientific literature in relation to Latvia; research of social aspect of sustainable development of east region of Latvia.

Building assessment tools have been introduced for nearly two decades to specifically recognize buildings performance towards sustainable development goals. However, the requirements to achieve sustainability in buildings are mainly focused on the environmental and economic aspects, while the significance of social aspects has been scarcely emphasized in many building assessments tools. This paper presents a review of social aspects in the sustainable building assessment tools adopted in Malaysia. In total, four building assessment tools are selected and discussed with the aim to identify to what extent the building assessment tools cover the social dimension. The results of the content analysis indicate that the assessment tools have included partial criteria of social aspects but the scope could further expand to preserve the key features of the social aspects including quality of life, human health, and environmental satisfaction. The findings provide a valuable overview of the building assessment tools and address gaps in existing building assessment tools from a social aspect perspective.

Purpose Sustainability, especially in terms of development and growth, has been in the agenda of the world community for several decades. However, apparently not all the aspects of sustainability are given equal importance. Ecologic and economic components of sustainability have been in the focal point of many theoretical and practical works, as the social aspect has been mostly left out of emphasis. The purpose of this paper is to examine the social aspects of sustainability and its relation to architecture, with respect to the strong connection between the society and the built environment. Design/methodology/approach The core of the paper consists of a case study conducted at a design studio course for third-year architecture students whereas the outcomes of the student works on the design problem are evaluated as examples for design approaches to reflect the effects of the built environment on social sustainability. The case study is supported with a literature review and examination of existing approaches to similar subjects regarding social sustainability. Findings The findings resulted in a better understanding of social sustainability in architectural education which is reflected on the built environment through several architectural strategies. Originality/value This paper contributes to the literature by providing a holistic understanding of sustainability including its social aspects and creating an awareness for the importance of social sustainability in architectural education.

Abstract In the Finnish early childhood education and care (ECEC) curriculum, there is no specific content for education for sustainable development (ESD). Thus, it is not possible to get direct guidelines on how to conduct ESD in ECEC from the curriculum. We seek to look at the preferences of Finnish early childhood educators through the model of extended environmental education. Behind this model is Palmer's tree model and an emphasis on empirical, social and ethical components of ECEC. The research method employed a survey. Altogether 924 teams in Southern Finland evaluated their learning environments. By using a factor and reliability analysis, we extracted three factors relevant to the extended Palmer's model. The teachers primarily emphasised the understanding (learning) aspects of ECEC. The second most important aspect comprised the social aspects of education. The third most important aspect included the ethical and participant aspects of ECEC. Potential implications and indications to the practice of ESD are discussed

This paper identifies, through a literature review, how 53 circular economy (CE) practices are related to the capability approach (CA) proposed by Sen. The main goal was to identify how a virtuous cycle between CE and CA can be developed. Five instrumental freedoms (IF) were analysed: economic facilities, social opportunities, protective security, political freedoms, and transparency guarantees. These relationships were analysed in three flows: CE practices positively impacting IF, CE practices negatively impacting IF, and the feedback influence of IF on CE practices. The results show that 32 of the 53 practices previously mentioned have not yet been studied from the CA context, which indicates that there are several research opportunities. From the practices considered, 72 articles were analysed in the final sample. The results suggest that several CE practices are aligned with the CA, considering that all five IF were identified as positive outcomes of CE practices. However, in some contexts, certain practices can have negative outcomes, which indicates that CE, at least in some cases, may not be considered as sustainable, as it decreases IF and, therefore, the social aspect of sustainability. The results also highlight that there is a feedback from IF to CE, in such a way that investing in the expansion of IF can facilitate the development of CE practices. Therefore, this study concludes that CE is indeed a way to fully operationalize sustainable development.

The authors found that in Ukraine there are already numerous examples of organizations that support social entrepreneurship. The article describes for the selected organizations their activities and the nature of the social entrepreneurship concept. At the same time, five paradoxes that arose in Ukraine in the field of social entrepreneurship were mentioned as following: the main source of income for working in the social sphere entrepreneurs are grants that are not fundamentally in contact with international practice; the carelessness of entrepreneurs who are not concerned about the future of a company created with borrowed funds; absolute lack of support from the state; lack of interest in state supporting; an excess of laws in the country that contradict each other.According to the results of the research, the authors present obstacles to the concept of social entrepreneurship implementation in Ukraine and the steps needed to stimulate development. Taking into account current trends in the world development, the authors outline the global goals of UN sustainable development, which covers social entrepreneurship as a type of economic activity.

Introduction. The features of social innovations classification are investigated. It allows them to be identified among the whole set of innovations in the social sphere of public systems. The approach is based on the differentiation between the main features that are characteristic for the given type of innovation. Purpose. The article aims to define the peculiarities of social innovations classification from a viewpoint of sustainable development for social and economic systems of different levels. Results. The main features of social innovations classification in terms of sustainable development have been described. The differentiation of social innovations into "deterministic" and "veritable" considering the basic peculiarities of social and economic systems development has been suggested. It has been specified that deterministic social innovations relating to innovation-oriented social and economic systems arise as the positive externals in the result of introducing technical, technological, economic, environmental and other innovations, thus, “veritable” social innovations are generated exceptionally for public development. The generation of such types of social innovation is characterized by the prospect of economic potential of the social and economic system.

Autism in children has several symptoms such as being unable to socialize, having difficulty using language, behaving repeatedly and reacting abnormally to stimuli. The purpose of this study was to describe the perspective of parents regarding the autonomy of children with autism in the social aspects of Soeprapto mental hospital, Bengkulu. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with a research sample of 10 informants and 4 autistic therapists. Data were obtained from interviews and observations. The results of the study obtained information from the social aspect of the child that they are willing to play with their peers and interact with the surrounding environment, are afraid of meeting people they do not know, ask to be welcomed when they meet close people such as father, mother and caregiver, but still many children who take autism therapy have not achieved a significant level of independence. This is due to the level of obedience of children with autism in following therapy or learning provided by therapists and support from children's families who only rely on the education provided by the therapist. In conclusion, the autonomy of children with autism has not reached a significant level of independence based on the parents' perspective. It is hoped that the results of this study can be input for educational institutions and related parties (therapists) as information and knowledge about the autonomy of children with autism from a social aspect. Keywords: Autistic Children, Social Independence, Parents' Perspective

Charles Tilly (2004) explained that social movements could make constant campaigns for and by people to reach their proper needs and rights. People may forget the rights they enjoy now are fruits of social movements. The rights are not directly and willingly given to the people but the influence of social movements causes them to reach every ordinary men and women. If there is slavery in the society that one suppress the other in the name of caste, money, status, etc then we cannot claim there is sustainable development. The riches, the advancements, the merits of any systems remind everyone that there are social movements which could render selfless services towards this attainment. Kanyakumari is one among the districts of Tamilnadu, where the contribution of social movements towards the development is high that this district stands first in education. Not only in education but also in every walks of life the leaders and members of various social movements set standards and worked for it continuously. This paper analyses how far the social traits of leaders and members of today’s social movements in Kanyakumari district make impact for the sustainable development in the district. It is thus witnessed that the social life in the district is empowered by the social movements and even the ordinary fishermen, masons, farmers and gardeners could get a decent life.
