The new tire unloading machine is used for unloading and turning over the giant radial tire (weighing 6t). During the turning process, due to the huge inertial force of the tire and the collision force between the plywood and the tire, the tire unloading machine bearing is subjected to complex alternating stresses. It is difficult to predict the fatigue life of a bearing. To this end, the paper combines Ncode DesignLife, ADAMS and Workbench numerical analysis platform to predict the fatigue life of tire unloading machine bearings. At the same time, the ISO bearing life standard calculation method is used to evaluate the bearing life and compare the two calculation results. The research results show that the simulation prediction of the bearing life at the lowermost rocker arm of the tire unloader is 2190.56h, and the bearing life of the uppermost guide wheel bearing is 2025.56h. Accordingly, the ISO prediction results are 1717.12h and 1128.44h, which are basically in the same order of magnitude. It shows that the simulation method of bearing life prediction used in the article is reasonable. The research can provide theoretical guidance for the bearing type matching and service life of the giant tire unloader.

In view of the rotor icing problems, the influence of centrifugal force on rotor blade icing is investigated. A numerical simulation method of three-dimensional rotor blade icing is presented. Body-fitted grids around the rotor blade are generated using overlapping grid technology and rotor flow field characteristics are obtained by solving N-S equations. According to Eulerian two-phase flow, the droplet trajectories are calculated and droplet impingement characteristics are obtained. The mass and energy conservation equations of ice accretion model are established and a new calculation method of runback water mass based on shear stress and centrifugal force is proposed to simulate water flow and ice shape. The calculation results are compared with available experimental results in order to verify the correctness of the numerical simulation method. The influence of centrifugal force on rotor icing is calculated. The results show that the flow direction and distribution of liquid water on rotor surfaces change under the action of centrifugal force, which lead to the increasing of icing at the stagnation point and the decreasing of icing on both frozen limitations.

Conical picks are the key cutting components used on roadheaders, and they are replaced frequently because of the bad working conditions. Picks did not meet the fatigue life when they were damaged by abrasion, so the pick fatigue life and strength are excessive. In the paper, in order to reduce the abrasion and save the materials, structure optimization was carried out. For static analysis and fatigue life prediction, the simulation program was proposed based on mathematical models to obtain the cutting resistance. Furthermore, the finite element models for static analysis and fatigue life analysis were proposed. The results indicated that fatigue life damage and strength failure of the cutting pick would never happen. Subsequently, the initial optimization model and the finite element model of picks were developed. According to the optimized results, a new type of pick was developed based on the working and installing conditions of the traditional pick. Finally, the previous analysis methods used for traditional methods were carried out again for the new type picks. The results show that new type of pick can satisfy the strength and fatigue life requirements.

Математическая модель и полученные результаты исследования могут быть использованы при создании летательных аппаратов с движителями роторного типа. This article addresses the study of the aerodynamic and energy characteristics of a cycloidal rotor subject to the influence of the incoming flow. Cycloidal rotor is one of the perspective devices that provide movement of aircrafts. Despite the fact that the concept of a cycloidal rotor arose in the early twentieth century, the model of a full-scale aircraft has not been yet realized. Foreign scientists have developed models of aircraft ranging in weight from 0.06 to 100 kg. The method of numerical calculation of the cycloidal rotor from the article [1] is considered and realized in this study. The purpose of study was the development and testing of a numerical simulation method for the cycloidal rotor and study aerodynamic and energy characteristics of the rotor in the hovering mode and under the influence of the oncoming flow. The aerodynamic and energy characteristics of the cycloidal rotor, rotating at a speed of 1000 rpm with incoming flow on it with velocities of 20-80 km/h, were calculated. The calculation results showed a directly proportional increase of thrust with an increase of the incoming on the rotor flow velocity, but the power consumed by the rotor was also increased. Increase of the incoming flow velocity leads to the proportional increasing of the lift coefficient and the coefficient of drag. Up to a speed of 80 km/h, an increase in thrust and power is observed; at higher speeds, there is a predominance of nonstationary effects and difficulties in estimating the aerodynamic characteristics of the rotor. In the future, it is planned to consider the 3D formulation of the problem combined with possibility of the flow coming from other sides.

The fatigue life of turbine housing is an important index to measure the reliability of a radial turbocharger. The increase in turbine inlet temperatures in the last few years has resulted in a decrease in the fatigue life of turbine housing. A simulation method and experimental verification are required to predict the life of a turbine housing in the early design and development process precisely. The temperature field distribution of the turbine housing is calculated using the steady-state bidirectional coupled conjugate heat transfer method. Next, the temperature field results are considered as the boundary for calculating the turbine housing temperature and thermomechanical strain, and then, the thermomechanical strain of the turbine housing is determined. Infrared and digital image correlations are used to measure the turbine housing surface temperature and total thermomechanical strain. Compared to the numerical solution, the maximum temperature RMS (Root Mean Square) error of the monitoring point in the monitoring area is only 3.5%; the maximum strain RMS error reached 11%. Experimental results of temperature field test and strain measurement test show that the testing temperature and total strain results are approximately equal to the solution of the numerical simulation. Based on the comparison between the numerical calculation and experimental results, the numerical simulation and test results were found to be in good agreement. The experimental and simulation results of this method can be used as the temperature and strain (stress) boundaries for subsequent thermomechanical fatigue (TMF) simulation analysis of the turbine housing.

AbstractWe have developed a new type of powder diffractometer. The diffractometer has the potential of both high count rates and very high resolution when used at a synchrotron source. The laboratory based instrument can achieve an order of magnitude improvement in count rate over existing methods with proper optics. The method uses a focusing diffracted beam monochromator in combination with a multichannel detector. The incident x-rays fall on a flat plate or capillary sample and are intercepted by a bent focusing monochromator which has the focus of the bend at the sample surface. The powder diffraction lines emerging from the bent crystal monochromator are detected by a linear or 2-dimensional detector. This allows us to eliminate the background from fluorescence or other scattering and to take data over a range of 3° to 4° instead of one angle at a time thereby providing a large improvement over conventional diffractometers.

ABSTRACTThis article describes the design and evaluation of a new type of propulsion mechanism that uses modular umbrella-like wings oscillating symmetrically in counterphase to generate thrust. The principle of the propulsion and movement of the modular umbrella-like wings was first developed, and the mechanism used to implement the movement of the modular wings was subsequently designed. A structural model and the assembly relationship of the propulsion mechanism were developed for prototype fabrication. An experiment was established to measure the kinematic and mechanical performances of the propulsion mechanism for different reciprocating frequencies and travels. The results for the single umbrella-like wing indicate that either increasing the frequency or enlarging the travel can enhance the average aerodynamic force generated by the wing in one cycle. The results for the modular umbrella-like wings demonstrate that the inertial force generated by the mechanism can be balanced using a symmetrical structure. The average aerodynamic force would be markedly enhanced by increasing the percentage of the time that the outspread wing is moving downwards; e.g. the average aerodynamic force generated by the modular umbrella-like wings was increased by 85.84% compared to the value for a single umbrella-like wing for the same travel and frequency. This work provides practical guidance for optimising the structure design.

Abstract In this paper, a comprehensive analytical model for the fatigue life prediction of ball bearing in various operating conditions is presented. Not only the internal clearance variations induced by the centrifugal expansion and assembly interference, but also ball inertia forces and ball-raceway separations are fully considered in theoretical modeling to achieve accurate life prediction of ball bearing. The model has been validated by comparison with the static results in previous literature. Based on this, the results of the load distribution and fatigue life versus the internal clearance of ball bearing under various operating conditions are studied. The results show that there is always an optimal clearance to maximize bearing fatigue life for the radial load or the combined load conditions, and the size of the optimal clearance for bearing life is determined by both the load conditions and rotating speeds to ensure the uniformity of the internal load distribution of the ball bearing. Therefore, the above theoretical and conclusions can be used in structural design optimization and assembly parameters selection of ball bearing to maximize the life characteristic.
