Semarang City Public Works Department is a state-owned enterprise that works in the area of public services in the city of Semarang. Most of the technological conditions in the Public Works Department are still in manual data management, which is hampering business processes from going well. Therefore this research was conducted to design an Information System at the Semarang City Public Works Department using the Enterprise Architecture Planning (EAP) method which includes a SWOT analysis and Value Chain analysis. The existing framework in the Enterprise Architecture Planning (EAP) method can help align the data architecture and application architecture to get the expected results, which is achieving the business objectives of the City of Semarang Public Works Department so that business functions can run by the desired business processes. This research resulted in several proposals for the development of Information Systems and Information Technology in organizations including the development of several applications in the next 5 years.

With the advancement of technology, patient information has been being computerized in order to facilitate the work of healthcare professionals and improve the quality of healthcare delivery. However, there are many heterogeneous information systems that need to communicate, sharing information and making it available when and where it is needed. To respond to this requirement the Agency for Integration, Diffusion, and Archiving of medical information (AIDA) was created, a multi-agent and service-based platform that ensures interoperability among healthcare information systems. In order to improve the performance of the platform, beyond the SWOT analysis performed, a system to prevent failures that may occur in the platform database and also in machines where the agents are executed was created. The system has been implemented in the Centro Hospitalar do Porto (one of the major Portuguese hospitals), and it is now possible to define critical workload periods of AIDA, improving high availability and load balancing. This is explored in this chapter.

Business intelligence (BI) and data warehousing (DWH) research represent two increasingly popular, but still emerging fields in the information systems (IS) academic discipline. As such, they raise two substantial questions: Firstly, “how rigorous, i.e., fundamental, constituent, and explanatory, is DWH BI research?” and, secondly, “how relevant, i.e., useful and purposeful, is this research to practitioners?” In this article, the authors uphold the position that relevance and rigor are by no means dichotomous, but two sides of the same coin. Naturally, this requires well-defined approaches and guidelines—for scholarship in general and DWH/BI research in particular. Therefore, this paper proposes the competence center (CC) approach—a private-public partnership between academia and practice. The authors illustrate how the CC approach can be applied within the field of DWH/BI and suggest that a close link between research and practice supports both enhancing relevance to practice and strengthening rigor of research.

This study aims to determine the level of evaluation effectiveness application of information systems at the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with a survey method, the sample used by 172 respondents from Lecturers, Employees, and Undergraduate Students in the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University. The research data was obtained from a questionnaire (primary), brainstorming, literature study, and direct interviews with relevant parties according to the research objectives. Analysis of the data used in this study is a SWOT analysis (strength, opportunity, weakness, threat) to formulate an academic information technology system development strategy. The results of this study indicate that the total score for internal strength factors is 3.02. This number is needed as a process to find out where the intersection point (E) in the SWOT Diagram is. The total score for the internal weakness factor is 2.55. This number is also needed as a process to find out where the intersection point (E) in the SWOT Diagram is. Based on the determination of the area, quadrant I is the most extensive, as well as the location of the intersection point located in quadrant I so that the main strategy of developing Information Systems at FT Unhas Makassar is the SO strategy. While alternatives to the development of Information Systems at FT Unhas Makassar are ST, WO, and WT.
