The work discusses issues of the infrastructure, its instruments, and specifics of infrastructure in Polish and Slovak rural areas. The aim of this article is to analyze the level of technical infrastructure development in rural regions of the Małopolskie Voivodeship in Poland and the west part of Slovakia—Trnava self-governing region (Trnava region) as two regions with a similar position regarding regional competitiveness index. Following the topic, after identification of strengths and weaknesses of mentioned regions, the opportunities, and threats of sustainable development of infrastructure in rural areas have been analyzed using the SWOT method. The development of sustainable, reliable, and functional infrastructure does not only refer to the chosen regions of Poland and Slovakia but also other regions in the European Union. Sustainable infrastructure is a factor stimulating social and economic progress as one of the most important determinants of sustainable development and regional competitiveness. The authors notice a particular lack in the sustainable development of infrastructure in the field of water and sewerage management together with the supply of water. Therefore, this article tries to complete the gap in research focusing on the concept of a more systematic approach to technical infrastructure improvement in the context of sustainable development, and strategy of cooperation.

The chief aim of this paper is to outline the concept of sustainable development which is integrated into the doctrine of a relatively novel world religion known as the Bahá’í Faith. The study focuses on the description of causes behind the crisis and potential solutions as they are seen by the Baha’is, by means of analysis of their Sacred Writings and more profound insights into the doctrine, in particular where it concerns ecology and social-economic development.

The article presents selected issues currently discussed in the field of sustainable development in the European Union, and related at the same time to the energy sector. Therefore, the issues of resource efficiency and energy efficiency, energy production from renewable sources, or social exclusion caused by the lack of access to affordable energy sources were discussed. In addition to the analysis of the literature on the subject, the ranking of the European Union countries (EU-28) in terms of the level of development of the energy sector in the context of sustainable development was presented. For this purpose, a multidimensional comparative analysis was carried out using 8 indicators selected in the course of theoretical analysis concerning social, economic and environmental aspects related to the development of the energy sector. The time scope of the analysis covered 2016 (data availability). The source of values of the adopted variables was Eurostat. The analyzes carried out showed that the best situation in the energy sector compared to all of the countries surveyed was characterized by Denmark.

The realization of the idea of the sustainable development is a direction of development of many countries in the world, also in the European Union. It is possible to find examples of such action in the structural policy conducted by the  EU. It is directed at deliberate and intentional activity of the official authority  aiming at the harmonious development of EU regions. In particular it is regarding eastern regions of Poland which are reporting wide financial support from the budget of the European Union for social, economic and ecological growth. Particular directions of that growth contains “Strategy for the social and economic       growth of Eastern Poland by 2020”. The purpose of this article is to evaluate (using       available statistical data) the implementation of development goals in eastern  Polish regions contained in the Strategy in the context of sustainable development.

The unification of territorial communities allows forming an effective and convenient system of management of the territory in which they live. However, the unification of territorial communities in Ukraine is uneven, which raises the question of why this is happening. The purpose of the study is to analyze the level of social-economic development of united territorial communities in Ukraine and the choice of sustainable development strategies (adaptation, innovation, anti-crisis) for UTCs of different levels, identify problems of social-economic development and outline areas to address them. Research methods: generalization and scientific abstraction; system-structural and comparative analysis; economic and mathematical modeling; clustering. It has been established that the unification of different territories in Ukraine took place unevenly (with different levels of social-economic development). The study found that the unification of different territories in Ukraine took place unevenly due to different levels of their socio-economic development. It has been established that throughout Ukraine, communities with a low and high level of development predominate and to a lesser extent with a medium level of development. According to the results of the analysis, territorial communities were grouped into 3 regional clusters: cluster 1 – UTCs and territories with a high level of social-economic development (Kyiv and 9 regions); cluster 2 – UTCs and territories with an average level of social-economic development (6 regions); cluster 3 – UTCs and territories with a low level of social-economic development (10 regions). It has been proved that the social-economic development of UTCs is ensured by the improvement of financial, innovative, and investment activities of enterprises operating in communities. It has been proposed to apply an adaptation strategy of sustainable development for the territories of cluster 1; for cluster 2 - innovative strategy of sustainable development; for cluster 3 - anti-crisis strategy of sustainable development. Continuation of research in terms of determining the impact of enterprises on the socio-economic development of UTCs is promising not only in scientific terms but also to address the applied problems of developing a strategy for sustainable development at the level of individual UTCs in Ukraine. The studied methodology for the unification of territorial communities can be used to predict the further formation of UTCs in Ukraine and can be applied for territorial and administrative reforms in countries with uneven regional development.

Approved strategy of sustainable development of the Czech Republic is based on three pillars of defensibility, namely social, economic and environmental. The paper is focused on the third pillar that includes field of natural resources. It is solved in municipalities of chosen micro-regions in the Czech Republic compared with level in particular regions. In term of chosen indicators it is concerned with the coefficient analysis of ecological stability of landscape.Furthermore in the paper there are analysed chosen problems in the sphere of environment protection in particular districts where chosen micro-regions are situated. Analysis of environment protection is realized in years 2002–2008. Protection of environment is evaluated by indicators such as e.g. environmental assets and non-investment expenditures and emissions.
