The problem of waste processing of synthetic polymers makes scientific society look for biodestructors that can digest them. Recently there have appeared some studies that claimed that caterpillars Galleria mellonella L. can influence the integrity of synthetic polymers. In terms of evolution, this species is related to beehives and can digest bee wax. The capability of this insect to digest polyethylene is still under issue. During the research, it was analyzed how the addition of polyethylene to the artificial nutrient medium affects the biological parameters of Pyralidae when cultured in the laboratory. It was shown that adding polyethylene to the standard nutrient medium in proportions of 1/4 та 1/3 does not influence the biological parameters of the species. The viability of caterpillars and chrysalides stays within the control framework. Adding polyethylene to the artificial nutrient medium in proportions of 1/2 leads to 23% lower viability during the pupa phase. The viability of chrysalides was within control framework and their individual fertility did not differ significantly. When the artificial nutrient medium contained 3/4 of polyethylene, the viability of chrysalides decreased significantly by 61%. Increasing the quantity of polyethylene in the artificial nutrient medium led to the extinguished viability which means polyethylene cannot be digested (processed). In this case, the experiment showed a delay in the development and the population reproduction was impossible. In addition to that, the individual fertility of females decreased 6 times if compared to the control group. The development phase under the conditions when the artificial nutrient medium contained ½ of polyethylene was 30 days longer than the development phase of the control group. The sex correlation in this research was 44 % of females and 56 % of males on average. As the results demonstrated the decrease of biological parameters of Galleria mellonella species when using polyethylene, we can assert that caterpillars do not digest polyethylene but in their digestive system, they have enzymes or bacteria that can influence the integrity of polyethylene.

The present investigations were undertaken in laboratory on “Study on factitious host Corcyra cephalonica (Stainton) against storage of egg parasitoid Trichogramma chilonis (Ishii) cards under laboratory conditions” during the year 2018 in the bio-control laboratory, Department of Agricultural Entomology, College of Agriculture, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut (U. P.) India. The effects of different rearing media on some biological parameters of factitious host, C. cephalonica are based on results are most effective performance with T3 (Sorghum + Groundnut + Yeast powder, 50:50 + 5g Yeast), treatments i.e. larval, pupal, male and female moths emergence, and egg production in cc and followed by 17530, 16667, 15131,14875, 13545 and 11830 i.e. T3 (Sorghum + Groundnut + Yeast powder, 50:50 + 5g Yeast), T5 (Sorghum + Soyabeen + Yeast powder, 50:50 + 5g Yeast), T6 (Sorghum + Cowpea + Yeast powder, 50:50 + 5g Yeast), T4 (Sorghum + Gram powder + Yeast powder, 50:50 + 5g Yeast), T2 (Sorghum + Green Gram + Yeast powder, 50:50 +5g Yeast), T1 (Sorghum + Black gram + Yeast powder, 50:50 + 5g Yeast) and T7 (Sorghum alone (check) eggs per cc of Sorghum + Groundnut + Yeast powder, 50:50 + 5g Yeast and wheal), respectively.

The effects of the cytokinin hormone kinetin on the life history traits and hemocytes of the smaller wax moth Achroia grisella F. (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) were examined in order to better understand the physiological impacts of plant growth regulators on insects. Based on the obtained results, it was found that kinetin did not lead to significant changes in larval mortality, development time, morphological disorders and egg fertility. Female and male longevity were almost unchanged when early instars were fed with a kinetin-added diet, and it tended to be higher for males when kinetin was applied at the egg stage, especially at 5 mg/L. The weight of females decreased significantly with 25 and 3000 mg/L of kinetin and that of males with 5 mg/L. The most striking effect was a considerable decline in the number of progeny, particularly at 400 and 3000 mg/L, as compared to the control. The injection of kinetin caused noticeable decreases in the number of hemocytes in the circulation at 3 and 24 h. This work presents the first evidence that kinetin adversely affects the development and the hemocyte counts of an economically-important host species, A. grisella.

Rice an important staple food crop of the world, which is attacked by the various insect pests, among them the stem borers are the most destructive pests, distributed in all rice growing areas of the world and cause the severe losses. This research investigated the efficacy of the parasitoid Trichogramma chilonis (Ishii) to control the white stem borer (Scirpophaga innotata) in rice. In this respect the field studies were conducted in lower Sindh, Pakistan for the year, Kharif - 2017 and 2018. Trichogramma egg parasitoid over 230 species are reported to have been remained in biological control of insect pests of over 200 insect species belonging to 70 different families, mainly the order Lepidoptera, Hemiptera, Orthroptera and Thysnoptera, in order to manage the white stem borer of rice the Trichogramma chilonis (Ishii) was used as a bio-control agent. The Studies revealed that T. chilonis proved an effective biocontrol strategy against white stem borer of rice. The result of this study could be useful in an integrated pest management program for the management of white stem borer of rice the Trichogramma chilonis. The susceptibility of G. pyloalis larvae to spinosad was studied using the leaf dip method. Treatment with doses of spinosad sublethal concentrations (LC<sub>10</sub>, LC<sub>20</sub>, LC<sub>30</sub>, LC<sub>40</sub> of 0.026, 0.045, 0.065, 0.090 ppm, respectively) was applied. A significant difference in the effects was observed between the sublethal concentrations (LC<sub>10</sub>, LC<sub>20</sub>, LC<sub>30</sub>, and LC<sub>40</sub>) and the control in the content of carbohydrate and glycogen, and between the control vs. LC<sub>30</sub> and LC<sub>40</sub> in the content of protein. A significant decrease in glutathione S-transferase activity with the increase of spinosad concentration, no significant differences in the activities of &alpha;- and &beta;-esterases, and a significant increase in the enzyme activity of phenoloxidase were observed. Effects of LC<sub>10</sub> and LC<sub>30</sub> spinosad concentrations on some biological parameters showed that percentage of larval pupation and female fecundity significantly decreased in the concentration of LC<sub>30</sub>.

Abstract The predator Brumoides foudrasii (Mulsant) (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae) has been naturally found in plants infested by mealybugs. In this study, the striped mealybug Ferrisia dasylirii (Cockerell) (Hemiptera, Pseudococcidae) and Anagasta kuehniella Zeller (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae) eggs were evaluated as diets for the development and reproduction of B. foudrasii. Brumoides foudrasii immatures developed faster when fed with A. kuehniella eggs than when fed with F. dasylirii. However, the survival and longevity of B. foudrasii adults were not affected by the diets. Oviposition was more frequent when B. foudrasii females were fed with F. dasylirii (95%) than those fed with A. kuehniella eggs (65%). Brumoides foudrasii females fed with F. dasylirii were 2.5 times more fecund than those fed with A. kuehniella eggs. Although both diets may be considered proper for B. foudrasii, A. kuehniella eggs were more suitable for immature development, while F. darsyrili provided more nutritious resources for adult biological parameters as oviposition period, egg viability and fecundity. These results suggests that this predator can play an important role in regulating populations of the stripped mealybug F. dasylirii in the field.
