ABSTRACTThe high-Tc YBCO superconducting films have been prepared using a cw CO2 laser evaporation from a single bulk target. The adjustment of the target composition, especially the yttrium concentration, was found to be a key factor to achieve a desired film composition. After post-annealing at 930°C, the films deposited on YSZ substrate exhibited a zero resistance temperature of 85K. The deposition rate of the films was about lOOA/sec.

ABSTRACTA low pressure plasma spraying technique for depositing high-Tc YBCO thick films has been developed. Films with thickness ranging 20–100 μm have been prepared using Y0.3Ba0.7CuOx powders. After post-annealing in oxygen for 1h at 930–950°C, the films, which were deposited on nimonic alloy substrate heated at 650°C during spraying, exhibited a zero resistance temperature of 90.6K with transition width (90%-10%) of 2K and a critical current density (77K, 0T) of 690 A/cm2.

Heat-treatment temperature/time and ambient effects on the properties of YBa2Cu3O7−x superconducting films derived from carboxylate precursors were investigated. The thin films were processed under O2, N2, or N2/O2 mixed atmosphere. The use of N2 or N2-rich atmosphere facilitated the 123 phase formation, grain growth, and orientation due to liquid phase assist sintering. Thin films with Tc(zero) = 87.8 and Jc > 105 A/cm2 at 77 K were prepared under such atmosphere at T ≤ 920 °C. Higher temperatures were required for thin films processed under O2 atmosphere and inferior transport properties were obtained. Processing above the melting temperature resulted in highly oriented films with dense microstructures and large grains, but significant post annealing was needed to obtain good film properties.

A sol-gel method producing slice-form fine powder of high T c Y-Ba-Cu-O and Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O by organic amine-precipitation is presented. The average grain size of such powders is much smaller than that by the conventional solid-reaction. Superconducting films of Y-Ba-Cu-O with zero resistance T co =82.5 K prepared by this method manifest strong (001) texture. The reason of preferential orientation on polycrystal substrate is discussed.

In this work we present the technology of preparing multilayer MgB2superconducting films via CVD method. The first layer of the MgB2superconducting film was obtained by two-step method: growthing the precursor boron film on a polycrystalline Al2O3substrate first, then post annealing the film in magnesium ambient, thus we got the first layer of MgB2film. After that a pure boron film was deposited on the MgB2film , acting as the medium insulating layer, finally the second layer of the MgB2superconducting film was formed by in-situ growth, evaporated magnesium atoms and boron atoms that decomposed from diborane met near the substrate and generated the second layer of the MgB2superconducting film. The square resistance of the boron medium insulation layer is higher than 20 MΩ. The transition temperature of the both superconducting films was above 38 K, and the temperature for zero resistance is above 37 K. We found that different thickness of the B layer made different I-V curve between two superconducting films, which is very important for the use of Josephson junction. More meaningful results can be expected as the experiment goes on.

YBa2Cu3O7 films have been deposited by pulse laser evaporation on silicon substrates with metal nitrides (AIN, Si 3 N 4, GaN) buffer layers. The film superconductivity is restored after annealing at 900°C in pure oxygen atmosphere. X-ray diffraction patterns confirm the presence of the orthorhombic phase and resistivity measurements versus temperature shows a resistive transition with an onset at 90 K and a complete zero resistance at 70 K.

AbstractExcellent quality epitaxial and textured superconducting HoBa2Cu307.x (Ho 123) thin films have been fabricated on lattice matched (100) KTaO3 and (100) LaAlO3, and lattice mismatched (100) MgO substrates by the pulsed laser evaporation (PLE) technique. A bulk Hol23 target was evaporated using nanosecond excimer laser pulses with the evaporating material depositing on a substrate maintained in the temperature range of 550‐650°C. The temperature for zero resistance for HoBa2Cu3O7_x films deposited on various substrates at 650°C varied between 85 to 89K. The epitaxial films deposited on (100) LaA103 substrates exhibited critical current densities greater than 3.5 x 106 Amps/cm2 at 77 K. The superconducting properties of the Ho 123 films were found to be similar to Y123 films.

Bi1.7-Pb0.3-Sr2-Ca2-Cu3-Ox superconducting samples were prepared at 855°C, 862 C, 870 C, and 882 C sintering temperatures respectively. All samples were sintered for 120 hours. The samples were then quenched in liquid nitrogen. The electrical resistivity measurements showed that the samples sintered at 870° C had the best Tc. For these samples the Tc onset was around 120 K and the zero resistance was obtained at 108 K. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the samples were multiphased.

The preliminary study on the electron spin resonance (ESR) for the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system with different superconducting transition temperatures has been made at room temperature. It is found that the Lande factor g-values are increased with increasing zero resistance temperature T c0 but width between peaks ΔH pp of the ESR spectrum decreased with increasing T c0 . These might be attributed to the spin-orbit coupling of the magnetic ions and the Jahn-Teller distortion in the perpendicular component.
