ABSTRACTThere is an old puzzle associated with the series of compounds formed by first row elements, C, BN, and BeO: similar to the other members of the family of octet semiconductors, these compounds exist in dense phases like diamond and zincblende, or hexagonal diamond (lonsdaleite) and wurtzite; however, whereas C and BN also exist in low density graphitic phases, BeO does not.

Abstract Familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (FHL) is an autosomal recessive immune dysregulation disorder associated with Perforin, Munc13-4 and Syntaxin 11 genes. The mutations in the Perforin gene are the most common cause of the disease. Among these mutations, the role of the Alanin91Valin (A91V) alteration in the pathogenesis of the disease has long been controversial. Even though this alteration can be considered as a polymorphism based on its high frequency in normal population (>3.7%) and homozygous existence in some healthy individuals, it is also considered as a genetic risk factor depending on its much higher frequency observed in FHL patients (22.7%) and compound heterozygous existence with other disease causing mutations in the Perforin gene in some FHL patients. Contrary to the previous publications concerning with the co-existence of heterozygous A91V with homozygous mutations in other described FHL genes, there has been no reports on homozygous co-existence of A91V up until this communication where we present the interesting results of a study which shed light not only on the role of A91V in development of FHL, but also on the etiopathogenesis of genetic diseases in general. The subject of the study was a 12 year old female patient who was a product of a first degree consanguineous marriage. Initial diagnosis was lymphomatoid granulomatosis due to the presence of symptoms associated solely with central nervous system. The correct diagnosis could be made 1 year later upon development of systemic findings of FHL. There was no history of similar disorder in the family. Linkage analysis in the family revealed homozygosity for both Perforin and Munc13-4 genes in the patient and for only Munc13-4 gene in one of the asymptomatic sibling who was heterozygous for Perforin gene. Syntaxin 11 gene was excluded in this analysis. Detected merely in the patient was a homozygous A91V substitution (272C>T) in the sequencing of the Perforin gene. Sequencing of the complete coding (32 exons) and the flanking sequences, on the other hand, led to the identification of a homozygous three nucleotide in-frame deletion (2135-2137delTCG) in exon 23 of Munc13-4 gene. This novel mutation resulted in the replacement of nonpolar two aminoacids (Ile-Gly) at positions 712-713 with a polar single aminoacid (Ser). It is plausible that the substitution of highly conserved two aminoacids, especially one (Ile) playing important role in the stability of proteins, with a hydrophilic one would alter the three dimensional structure and the stability of the protein, and would lead to FHL. Ironically, however, an asymptomatic sibling who is currently 22 year old was also homozygous for the mutation. This finding led to the assumption that the Munc13-4 mutation alone may not be sufficient for the development of the disease, but may be a genetic risk factor requiring co-existence of additional homozygous genetic risk factor situated in another FHL gene. If this is the case, it is reasonable to state that homozigosity for A91V in Perforin as well as homozygosity for the 2135-2137del mutation in Munc13-4 is a strong genetic susceptibility factor contributing significantly to the pathogenesis of the disease when they are co-existed. However, this notion could be valid as long as the sibling with homozygous Munc13-4 mutation stays asymptomatic. On the other hand, late onset and atypical presentation in the propositus may indicate that the homozygous co-existence of both alterations is not associated with serious clinical course of the disease as far as the presenting age of the disease is concerned.

ABSTRACT The tet(L) gene of Bacillus subtilis confers low-level tetracycline (Tc) resistance. Previous work examining the >20-fold-inducible expression of tet(L) by Tc demonstrated a 12-fold translational induction. Here we show that the other component of tet(L) induction is at the level of mRNA stabilization. Addition of a subinhibitory concentration of Tc results in a two- to threefold increase in tet(L) mRNA stability. Using a plasmid-borne derivative of tet(L) with a large in-frame deletion of the coding sequence, the mechanism of Tc-induced stability was explored by measuring the decay of tet(L) mRNAs carrying specific mutations in the leader region. The results of these experiments, as well as experiments with a B. subtilis strain that is resistant to Tc due to a mutation in the ribosomal S10 protein, suggest different mechanisms for the effects of Tc on translation and on mRNA stability. The key role of the 5" end in determining mRNA stability was confirmed in these experiments. Surprisingly, the stability of several other B. subtilis mRNAs was also induced by Tc, which indicates that addition of Tc may result in a general stabilization of mRNA.

The paper deals with the grammaticalization problems in Tomo Kan (Dogon family, Niger-Congo) and, in particular, with the diachronic relationship of polypredicative constructions and TAM markers. Dogon languages are characterized by TAM systems that seem to be dia-chronically unstable since markers with a similar range of meanings go back to different lexi-cal sources in different languages of the family. TAM markers are apparently associated with polypredicative constructions, which are very common in Dogon and preserve some of their morphosyntactic properties. At the same time, Dogon languages are characterized by complex tonal changes triggered not only by phonological context but also by the syntactic position of constituents. These tonal changes, frequently referred to as tonosyntax, accompany the formation of polypredicative constructions and other syntactic phenomena. A thorough inves-tigation of Tomo Kan TAM markers shows their tonosyntactic properties to resemble those of polypredicative constructions. Moreover, assuming that tonosyntax of polypredicative con-structions triggers certain tonal contour overlays, one can account for tonal alternations ob-served in TAM forms which would have been left otherwise unexplained. However, the anal-ysis also reveals that at least two classes of TAM forms must be distinguished in Tomo Kan: one of them inherits the tonosyntax of polypredicative constructions while the other does not. A hypothesis is put forward that the latter class has a different source of grammaticalization and is probably associated with verb stem incorporation rather than with polypredication. Methodologically, the paper shows a critical role of tonology in the analysis of grammaticalization processes in tonal languages.

The present investigation aims to analyze the effect of motivation on students’ causal attributions to choose or abandon chemistry when it first becomes optional in the secondary education curriculum in Spain. Attributions to the effect of the family and to the teacher and classroom methodology were found to be common predictors of the choice to all the students in the sample. However, our analyses point to a significant effect of the students’ motivation in other types of attributions. In the case of at-risk of abandonment students, specific causal attributions to the effect of friends and to the subject's relationship with mathematics were found. On the other hand, the effect of media was a significant predictor only in the case of highly-motivated students. Our study provides several suggestions for teachers, schools, and administrations to design counseling strategies to help students make the right choices.

What does the stoic, silent expression of the terminal cancer patient signify? Clinical observation suggests that this emotional silence is often a physical energy-saving device, essential for survival to the very last breath. Caregivers and survivors may also experience a variety of contradictory and inexpressible emotions in silence. The role of the psychologist on the palliative care unit is to be there for the terminally-ill, as well as for the family/friends, both during the dying and bereavement, and for the caregiver team. This article focuses on the work of decoding ordinary words which for a good number of patients hide a painful past. It also stresses the necessity to remain open to the unexpected and to allow and trust the other to live what happens since there is a constant and unconscious effort to fill the void.

In this paper, a nonlinear mathematical model is proposed and analyzed to study the role of dissolved oxygen (DO)-dependent bacteria on biodegradation of one or two organic pollutant(s) in a water body. In the case of two organic pollutant(s), it is assumed that the one is fast degrading and the other is slow degrading and both are discharged into the water body from outside with constant rates. The density of bacteria is assumed to follow logistic model and its growth increases due to biodegradation of one or two organic pollutant(s) as well as with the increase in the concentration of DO. The model is analyzed using the stability theory of differential equations and by simulation. The model analysis shows that the concentration(s) of one or both organic pollutant(s) decrease(s) as the density of bacteria increases. It is noted that for very large density of bacteria, the organic pollutant(s) may be removed almost completely from the water body. It is found that simulation analysis confirms the analytical results. The results obtained in this paper are in line with the experimental observations published in literature.

The idea of the concept of Wasathiyah Islam (moderate Islam) reappeared in the High Level Consultation (Summit) of World Muslim Scholars and Intellectuals at the Bogor Palace, 1-3 May 2018. Wasathiyah Islam is perceived as a perspective that understands the position of Islam between two extreme opposite points: Fundamentalist and radical on the one hand, and liberal and permissive on the other. Women are the party mostdefeated by Islamic fundamentalists and most disadvantaged in the application of rigid Islamic sharia in various places in the Islamic world. In connection with concept of Wasathiyah Islam, women have monitoring ability that can promote constructive dialogue and provide understanding, both in the family and in the community. Therefore, women need to be equipped with a full understanding of the concept of WasathiyahIslam, because misleading understanding can foster religious radicalism on the one hand, and permissive attitudes will dwarf the understanding of religion on the other. The method used in this counselling includes several stages: 1) survey; 2) module making; 3) counselling; 4) interactive dialogue; 5) evaluation. The results of the counselling showed that after the training, participants enhanced their knowledge about the concept ofWasathiyah Islam. They began to realize that they had an important role in instilling a correct understanding of Wasathiyah Islam towards their families and communities.

The position of women in society is often regarded as second-class, making the backward condition and used as scapegoats for the backwardness of a society and nation. And even worse, the treatment of women by putting it as second-class communities are often mentioned as religious injunctions of Islam. On the other hand, there are those who want to empower women by giving women the freedom to freely, by demanding their equality with men in all aspects, without considering the differences that have been given by God to men and women. So what happens is the increasing number of family breakdown leading to divorce and loss of sosial community building. Hence<br />the need for reconstruction of a fair idea about the position of women, both on the relationship of women with men, as well as the position and role of women in family and society. Based on observations of the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah, it was shown that a Muslim woman at the time (shahabiyah) has had a very complex role in the community. Nevertheless, they do not leave their primary role in the family and still uphold the ethics<br />of religion in the publik domain.

The freedom and the existential engagement represent two essential notions in the mind of the writer Jean-Paul Sartre. It has been presented in a good and clear way by his philosophy or, in a clearer way, by his artworks. More specifically, the two plays of this author, The Flies and the dirty hands, are the mirror that reflects these twos existential notions.           These two plays are the perfect testimonies for the two important periods in the XXth century: before and after the Second World War. These two periods vary in so far, the human mind, politics and literature as are concerned. This variation has followed the historical and the political changes in the world in general and in France in particular.           Even if The Flies and the dirty hands are considered like two different existential dramas, but each one completes the other. The first drama evokes a human mind but, indirectly, another political one, whether the other play evokes the inverse. Oreste and Hugo, the two heroes of our study plays, are the superior heroes who try to save humanity of slavery and submission to injustice. Sartre and his audience place their hopes in these two heroes who search for the freedom through their existential engagement.           In the other hand, the female characters have played an affective role in the dramatic action in the two plays. By its freedom and its existential engagement, the female condition, according to Sartre's vision, searches for proving his human existence and revolting against the authority of the family, the society and the humanity.

The interest in the role of family in social life in this modern era is growing stronger. On the one hand, this is the result of the declining degree of cohesiveness and disorientation of the family due to industrialization and individualization. On the other hand, it is the effect of the increasing expectation of society toward family institution as the result of the failure of the institutions outside family circles to implant and defend some values in life. This article is trying to see how a family can play a role in building national character, viewed especially from Islamicperspectives. In a specific way, this article shows how Islamic teachings give guidance concerning matters relating to the functions of the family.
