ABSTRACTPolymeric materials are widely used in power generation and energy storage applications. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) biopolymer-based hybrids have been found to display interesting electrical characteristics, such as a relatively high dielectric constant, good resistivity and dielectric breakdown behavior, and are promising as insulating dielectrics for capacitor applications. This research describes the processing, test structure design, and electrical characterization of DNA-sol-gel hybrids for energy storage applications.

High dielectric polymer nanocomposites are promising candidates for energy storage applications. The main criteria of focus are high dielectric breakdown strength, high dielectric constant and low dielectric loss. In this study, we investigate the effect of the addition of TiO2 particles to PVDF matrix on the dielectric constant, breakdown and energy density of the system. The dispersion of the particles is qualified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The morphology of the composites is characterized by polarized light microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The dielectric properties are measured by a Novocontrol system with an Alpha analyzer. Finally, the breakdown measurements are carried out by a QuadTech hipot tester.

ABSTRACTStructural and electrical characterization of laser recrystallized LPCVD silicon films on amorphous substrates using a shaped cw laser beam have been performed. In comparing the results to data obtained using a circular beam, it was found that a significant increase in grain size can be achieved and that the surface morphology of the shaped beam recrystallized material was much smoother. It was also found that whereas circular beam recrystallized material has a random grain structure, shaped beam material is highly oriented with a <100> texture. Finally the electrical characteristics of the recrystallized film were very good when measured in directions parallel to the grain boundaries.

Three-dimensional BaTiO3 (3D BT)/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composite dielectrics were fabricated by inversely introducing PVDF solution into a continuous 3D BT network, which was simply constructed via the sol-gel method using a cleanroom wiper as a template. The effect of the 3D BT microstructure and content on the dielectric and energy storage properties of the composites were explored. The results showed that 3D BT with a well-connected continuous network and moderate grain sizes could be easily obtained by calcining a barium source containing a wiper template at 1100 °C for 3 h. The as-fabricated 3D BT/PVDF composites with 21.1 wt% content of 3D BT (3DBT–2) exhibited the best comprehensive dielectric and energy storage performances. An enhanced dielectric constant of 25.3 at 100 Hz, which was 2.8 times higher than that of pure PVDF and 1.4 times superior to the conventional nano–BT/PVDF 25 wt% system, was achieved in addition with a low dielectric loss of 0.057 and a moderate dielectric breakdown strength of 73.8 kV·mm−1. In addition, the composite of 3DBT–2 exhibited the highest discharge energy density of 1.6 × 10−3 J·cm−3 under 3 kV·mm−1, which was nearly 4.5 times higher than that of neat PVDF.

AbstractCa2Nd4Ti6O20, a layered perov skite structured material was synthesized via a chemical (citrate sol-gel) route for the first time using nitrates and alkoxide precursors. Phase analysis of a sample sintered at 1625 °C revealed the formation of an orthorhombic (Pbn21) symmetry. The microstructure of the sample after sintering comprised rod-shaped grains of a size of 1.5 to 6.5µm. The room temperature dielectric constant of the sintered sample was 38 at 100 kHz. The remnant polarization (Pr) and the coercive field (Ec) were about 400 μC/cm2 and 8.4 kV/cm, respectively. Impedance spectroscopy revealed that the capacitance (13.7 pF) and activation energy (1.39 eV) of the grain boundary was greater than the capacitance (5.7 pF) and activation energy (1.13 eV) of the grain.

This paper describes an experimental work on the electrical characterization of commercial LED of different colors and their photoelectric effect. A research work has been carried out to develop the experimental measurement in order to show the presence of a photovoltaic effect on LEDs. For this purpose, we measured the electrical characteristics of individual LED and studied their light intensities using a pyranometer EPLEY. This work focused mainly on red, green and yellowLEDs. Moreover, we have implemented an experimental system for the measurement of sensitivity of different LEDs depending on the power of light from a light source. A comparison was made between theoretical model and experimental results.
