Technological and structural parameters of a threshing unit must ensure the highest possible quality of its operation under minimum input and cost. The aim of the study was to estimate the variation of speed of threshing cylinder with two different shapes of filler plates (FP-I and FP-II) under various corn ear feed rate into combine harvester. Threshing cylinder speed (frequency of rotation) nb (min-1) was measured simultaneously each 0.075 s using stationary tangential single-cylinder threshing unit located in laboratory-training ground intended for investigation into technological processes of agricultural machinery. Frequency of rotation of non-loaded threshing cylinder speed amounted for 450 min-1. Increase in corn ear feed rate from 6 kg s-1 to 12 kg s-1 caused frequency of rotation of threshing cylinder to decrease from nb=437.82±0.21 min-1 to nb=420.96±0.50 min-1 (using FP-I). Replacing covered spaces between rasp bars with FP-II had no effect on cylinder speed – it has decreased from 438.06±0.23 min-1 to 421.37±0.32 min-1. Results showed that in case of FP-I, the amplitude of speed Anb has increased from Anb=4.07±0.44 min-1 to Anb=8.60±0.88 min-1, whereas in case of FP-II – from Anb=2.67±0.25 min-1 to Anb=4.52±0.62 min-1 in response to increased feed rate from 4 kg s-1 to 12 kg s-1. This means that using the covers FP-II the threshing apparatus will work more evenly. The average threshing cylinder speed, irrespective of the closure of spaces between rasp bars, was found to decrease by approx. 20 min-1 in result of increase in corn ear feed rate from 4 kg s-1 to 12 kg s-1. When threshing corn ears, irrespective of the shape of filler plates, the acceptable feed rate amounted for 10 kg s-1, as it caused to exceed the permissible limit of 5 % allowed for decrease in cylinder speed (nb=427.5 min-1).

The paper presents a thermodynamic analysis of a single cylinder four-stroke spark-ignition (SI) engine fuelled by four fuels namely iso-octane, methane, methanol and hydrogen. In SI engines, due to phenomena like ignition delay and finite flame speed manifested by the fuels, the heat addition process is not instantaneous, and hence ‘Weibe function’ is used to address the realistic heat release scenario of the engine. Empirical correlations are used to predict the heat loss from the engine cylinder. Physical states and chemical properties of gaseous species present inside the cylinder are determined using first and second law of thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, JANAF thermodynamic data-base and NASA polynomials. The model is implemented in FORTRAN 95 using standard numerical routines and some simulation results are validated against data available in literature. The second law of thermodynamics is applied to estimate the change of exergy i.e. the work potential or quality of the in-cylinder mixture undergoing various phases to complete the cycle. Results indicate that, around 4 to 24% of exergy initially possessed by the in-cylinder mixture is reduced during combustion and about 26 to 42% is left unused and exhausted to the atmosphere.

One of the most common reasons for the failure of hydraulic drive systems for agricultural machinery is the working fluid leak in the contact points of the rubbing surfaces of hydraulic blocks. The application of composite coatings based on chromium on the contacting surfaces allows you to restore the defect in the shape of the part caused by wear, as well as reduce the friction coefficient at the contact points, which positively affects the wear resistance of the part. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in developing technologies for restoring parts of agricultural machinery with predetermined operational properties. (Materials and methods) A servo valve, widely used in various hydraulic drive systems, was used as an experimental sample. Its working surface was restored with a composite coating applied by electroplating to increase the wear resistance of the servo valve. (Results and discussion) Authors conducted a series of direct measurements under the same conditions. The article presents the de-pendence of the microhardness on the parameters of the electrolysis mode and the thickness of the applied coating using the method of least squares. The nature of changes in microhardness and residual stresses was evaluated to determine the quality of the coatings. The article presents the dependences of these indicators on various control parameters (current density, temperature, tool pressure). The equations of the regression of the main qualitative and accuracy characteristics of the parts were deter-mined using the apparatus of the theory of experimental planning. (Conclusions) The article presents the method for predicting coatings of a given quality, taking into ac-count the influence of the current density and the temperature of the electrolyte during electrolysis on the nature of the precipitation obtained. The influence of the tool pressure on the depth of deformation of the formed layers was estimated. This approach allows us to evaluate the nature of the stress distribution in the formed coating and the quality of the restored parts.

Solving the problem of improving efficiency of technological processes of mineral concentration is one of the essential for providing sustainability of mining enterprises. Currently, special attention is paid to optimization of technological processes in concentration of useful minerals. This approach calls for availability of high-quality data on the process, formation of corresponding databases and their subsequent processing to build adequate and efficient mathematical models of processes and systems. In order to improve quality of mathematical description of forming fractional characteristics of ore through applying technological aggregates in concentration, the authors suggest using power Volterra series that provide characteristics of a controlled object (its condition) as a sequence of multidimensional weight functions invariant to the type of an input signal – Volterra nuclei. Application of Volterra structures enables decreasing the modelling error to 0.039 under the root-mean-square error of 0.0594.

Increasing industrialization and motorization led to a significant rise in demand of petroleum products. As these are the non-renewable resources, it will be troublesome to predict the availability of these resources in the future, resulting in uncertainty in its supply and price and is impacting growing economies like India importing 80% of the total demand of the petroleum products. Many attempts have been made by different researchers to find out alternate fuels for Internal Combustion engines. Many alternate fuels like Biodiesel, LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and Alcohol are being used nowadays by different vehicles. In this context pyrolysis of scrap tyres can be used effectively to produce oil, thereby solving the problem of waste tyre disposal. In the present study, Experimental investigations were carried out to evaluate the performance and emission characteristics of a single cylinder diesel engine fueled by TPO10, TPO15, and TPO20 at a crank angle 280 before TDC (Top Dead Centre) and injection pressure of 180 bar keeping the blend quality by controlling the density and viscosity of tyre pyrolysis oil within permissible limit of euro IV diesel requirement. The performance and emission results were analyzed and compared with that of diesel fuel operation. The results of investigations indicate that the brake thermal efficiency of the TPO - DF blend decreases by 4 to 8%. CO emissions are slightly higher but within permissible limit of euro IV emission standards. HC emissions are higher by about 40 to 60% at partial load whereas smoke opacity is lower by about 14% to 22% as compared to diesel fuel.
