In keeping with the scholarly traditions of Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty, the 14th “Prof. Vladas Gronskas International Scientific Conference” was held in December 2019. This international conference is an arena for cooperation and scholarly fellowship, with young researchers, master and doctoral students from Lithuania as well as Latvia, Ukraine, India, Bulgaria, Hungary, Turkey, Russia, Israel, Nigeria participating in the different conference sections and poster session. The main goal of this scientific gathering has always been to contribute to the reliable, safe, effective and sustainable economy and business development. Thus, the organizing committee strives to create a suitable platform for well‐grounded and open discussion where young researchers have the opportunity to present and share their insights.Encouraging entrepreneurship is a crucial condition for economic growth and this puts forward a new approach to business, creativity, value creation, and the implementation of innovations. It is precisely in this context where business and science should interact. To reinforce this relevant bond, the guest speakers of the plenary session were selected amongst experienced practitioners and scholars. This conference encourages internationalization and a closer cooperation between science and business. In 2019, the conference is going to expand the range of themes and invite not only the young but also experienced scientists to present their scientific findings. Hopefully, there has been some useful take‐away for both academia and business conference participants: new insights and inspirations for further scientific research and possible solutions to boost Lithuanian economy. The exploratory analysis of the differences between preprints and the corresponding peer reviewed journal articles for ten studies first published on ChemRxiv and on Preprints, though statistically non-significant, suggests outcomes of relevance for chemistry researchers and educators. The full transition to open science requires new education of doctoral students and young researchers on scholarly communication in the digital age. The preliminary findings of this study will contribute to inform the curriculum of the aforementioned new courses for young chemists, eventually promoting accelerated innovation in a science that, unique amid all basic sciences, originates a huge industry central to the wealth of nations.

This year, the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Neuropsychopharmakologie und Pharmakopsychiatrie e.V. (AGNP) will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its scientific conference, without doubt one of the premier gatherings on all things neuro- and psychopharmacology in Central Europe. The society’s get-together, which is held on a roughly biannual basis, has a long and rich tradition of fostering interactions between practitioners, academics, and decision makers from the private and public sectors. Moreover, the meeting provides a variety of formats for young researchers to present and discuss their work in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.

Abstract The aim of the present paper is to put together, point out and underline the core characteristics of a generalized concept of productivity built on a heterodox outlook. The analysis is conducted under the assumption that the developing knowledge in nowadays society and the concern for basing the economy on it require a reviewed approach on productivity. Relevant moments from the economic thought and literature are invoked(certain approaches on productivity from the most representative Romanian economic thought here included); the research finds reason and main conceptual grounds in the genuine liberalism and in the service economy, by a critical view on the concern for productivity growth as commonly seen and calculated. The paper also aims to bring to the current attention some pioneer work, less known but very important for the productivity mark. The paper develops the service stake as defining value creation and reveals the most important differences between common productivity (usually calculated productivity) and the new approach that takes into account the generalized service approach consistent with nowadays society. This paper is a theoretical presentation designed to serve as an improved context for reconsidering the researches focused on – or connected with – productivity.

AbstractEngineer, innovators, and designers play a critical role in the economy by addressing pressing problems and creating solutions that are new and innovative. It is a role that involves technical skills but also requires curiosity, an ability to connect pieces of knowledge to discover solutions, and a focus on value creation – which are all characteristic of the entrepreneurial mindset. There are many different design-focused frameworks that can be used to enhance the entrepreneurial mindset; this study focuses on four of them: systems thinking, design thinking, the value proposition canvas, and the business model canvas. The purpose of this paper is to highlight a new approach to developing the entrepreneurial mindset that goes beyond the proverbial “checking boxes” to providing an approach for demonstrating the integration of doing (artifact development) and thinking (reflection). This innovative and experimental approach offers two unique attributes. First, it is a scaffold in that instruction of each of the four modules builds on the other, further enhancing and grounding the learning experience. Second, students are required to continuously reflect on the process. This encourages students to think about learning in a holistic manner, allowing the ability to connect classroom learning with specific current and future utility. The findings suggest that students were able to recognize why the design-focused frameworks and learning activities were important outside of the classroom, particularly in relation to workforce preparation and securing future employment.
