Iatrogenic iliac arteriovenous fistula (IAVF) is an extremely rare complication after lumbar discectomy surgery (LDS), with potentially life-threatening consequences. An IAVF results from the close anatomic relation between the iliac vessels and the last lumbar vertebrae and the corresponding discs. We report the case of a 45-year-old woman who developed a large right IAVF 3 years after L4-L5-S1 laminectomy. The arteriovenous fistula (AVF) was successfully treated with an endovascular technique using a WALLSTENT self-expanding stent. The postoperative period was uneventful, and the patient was discharged from the hospital in good general condition on the third postoperative day.

Pott’s puffy tumor (PPT) is a rare complication of sinusitis characterized by osteomyelitis of the frontal bone with subperiosteal abscess presenting as frontal swelling. It was first described by Sir Percival Pott in 1768 in relation to frontal head trauma. Later, it was established that this entity is more common in relation to frontal sinusitis (1). In this article we report a case of PPT in a 17-year-old boy. CT scan confirmed subperiosteal abscess. At surgery, the subperiosteal abscess was drained and sequestrectomy of the affected frontal bone was done. Broad-spectrum antibiotics were given for 4 weeks. The patient recovered without residual problems and has remained well. PPT is now relatively uncommon and early diagnosis and prompt treatment is necessary to avoid further intracranial complications, which can be life-threatening.

Primary anorectal malignant melanoma is an extremely rare condition. It appears at the third highest frequency after melanomas of the skin and retina. Its prognosis is dreadful because of the early onset of metastases. The treatment remains essentially surgical. We report an observation of primitive anorectal melanoma, collected at the department of surgery for digestive cancers and liver transplantation of the Ibn Rochd University Hospital of Casablanca, with a review of the literature. In order to analyse the clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic characteristics of primary anorectal melanoma.

Hypomelanosis of Ito (HI) though said to be the third most common neurocutaneus disorder, is rarely reported in paediatric practice in Africa. A high index of suspicion must be maintained in children with cutaneous lesions as a seizure may be the first symptom that may bring the child to attention. A case of HI in a neonate is hereby reported to sensitize clinicians about this relatively uncommon disorder

Chemoradiation is one of the therapeutic options in palliative treatment of locally advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma, with a well-known safety profile. In this case report, we describe the treatment-related occurrence of an intrasplenic pancreatic pseudocyst which was successfully removed by gastrocystic drainage. This rare complication should be considered in the follow-up and clinical management of patients, particularly if left-sided complaints occur.

The diagnosis of neurocysticercosis in pregnancy is challenging, even in endemic areas, as other neurological conditions with similar manifestations are common. Obstetricians and physicians may be reluctant to do neuroimaging in pregnancy and often the availability is limited in endemic areas. Management of neurocysticercosis depends on the symptomatology. In those presenting with features of increased intracranial pressure early treatment is necessary, taking into consideration the gestational age and the maternal condition at presentation. Presence of intraventricular cysts causing obstructive hydrocephalus necessitates their removal due to the risk of intracranial hypertension which could be life-threatening, particularly peripartum. We report a case of a woman with intraventricular neurocysticercosis, who presented in the third trimester, and described the management dilemmas that were encountered. The differential diagnoses and other aspects of the medical and surgical management of neurocysticercosis in pregnancy are also discussed.
