AbstractThe purpose of this study is to understand the evolution of the analytical performance of the laboratories participating in the Spanish society of laboratory medicine (SEQCML) external quality assurance (EQA) programmes during its 30 years of operation and to compare it with the performance of other EQA programmes to establish whether the results are similar. The results obtained during this period are evaluated by applying the biological variability (BV) and state of the art-derived quality specifications. In addition, the results are compared with those obtained by other EQA programme organisations. It is noted that the laboratories participating in the EQA–SEQCML programmes have improved their performance over 30 years of experience and that the specifications derived from biological variation are achievable. It is difficult to compare EQA programmes, due to lack of accessibility and the differences in the design of these programmes (control materials, calculations used and analytical specifications established). The data from this study show that for some biological magnitudes the results obtained by the programmes are not yet harmonised, although efforts are being made to achieve this. Organisers of EQA programmes should also join the harmonisation effort by providing information on their results to enable comparison.

This review presents “a state of the art” report on sustainability in construction materials. The authors propose different solutions to make the concrete industry more environmentally friendly in order to reduce greenhouse gases emissions and consumption of non-renewable resources. Part 1—the present paper—focuses on the use of binders alternative to Portland cement, including sulfoaluminate cements, alkali-activated materials, and geopolymers. Part 2 will be dedicated to traditional Portland-free binders and waste management and recycling in mortar and concrete production.

Coach leaders/administrators in diverse amateur and grassroots football contexts are increasingly accountable for sustaining strategic, state-of-the-art, evidence-based, effective, and efficient programs, initiatives, and services. However, coach leaders/administrators within these organizational settings face significant challenges (e.g., insufficient organizational support and research expertise) in enacting research-informed and evidence-based practices. Strategic Educational Inquiry (SEI) is a flexible and rigorous approach to practitioner research and is particularly useful for coach leaders/administrators to gather evidence for quality assurance and enhancement purposes. This paper critically examines whether and how SEI is applied in diverse amateur/grassroots football coaching contexts. Drawing on case study research using multiple case design, preliminary findings from this study indicate that SEI situates specific amateur/grassroots coaching programs and initiatives within the relevant research and professional literature; it focuses SEI on organization-specific priority research objectives, ethical inquiry, and appropriately aligned research methodology; and involves systematic data collection, data analysis, and dissemination of best practices. Critical organization-specific supports to facilitate implementation of SEI in diverse amateur/grassroots football contexts include: strategic coach education and skills training (e.g., access to state-of-the-art customized technology-enabled professional development experiences and expert mentoring support).

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) can be considered as the ability of the electromagnetic apparatus to function satisfactorily without interfering the others or being interfered by the others. Nowadays, the conformity of electromagnetic products to corresponding EMC standards becomes of importance in order to cope with the mandatory requirements prescribed by the global market. The EMC conformity becomes the main part of quality assurance and safety of products. This paper presents the state-of-the-art EMC conformity of products in Indonesia from regulation and technical point of view. Survey on the quo-vadis of EMC regulation in the country by communicating with some governmental bodies has been conducted. At the same time, the EMC conformity of some products i.e. television and refrigerator in domestic market by conducting EMC testing on them including emission and immunity test was investigated. It is realized that regulations on EMC are not established yet because the responsible authorities has not assigned yet. Therefore, EMC conformity is not mandatory yet for manufactured or imported  products in domestic market. However, mandatory standard of EMC will be implemented in earliest 2015. Moreover, EMC testing showed that the products under testing are mostly not conforming to EMC standards. Those products did not meet, either emission/immunity requirements or both. This fact emphasizes the need of establishing mandatory EMC regulation as well as responsible authorities. Keywords: electromagnetic compatibility, conformity, interference, safety

One hundred and thirteen Australian laboratories participated in a state-of-the-art quality-assurance survey of emergency clinical biochemistry tests. Two liquid-reconstituted lyophilised human-based serum samples, which had previously been analysed in the national general serum chemistry programme, were sent by air cargo, together with their own previously completed request forms, for analysis as emergency tests on a previously nominated date. The standard of performance of ten of the eleven most commonly performed tests was inferior to that obtained on a routine basis, as judged by the number of results outside present limits of total laboratory error from target values which had been previously set by reference laboratories. The standard of analytical performance achieved for emergency tests can and should be improved.
