The article presents empirical and diagnostic research aiming to recognise how a generalised feeling of self-efficacy differentiates students’ independent learning. In the research, Generalized Self – Efficacy Scale (GSES) was applied (according to R. Schwarzer, M. Jeruzalem, in the Polish adaptation by Z. Juczyński) as well as a free-form interview, partially categorised. The study group was composed of 215 intentionally selected pedagogy students, following full-time and part-time courses. The variable adopted in the research differentiates the view of students’ independent learning, mainly in terms of the degree of involvement in their own learning. A high level of self-efficacy seems to be related to regularity, persistence in learning, consistency, the ability to focus on longer periods of learning, as well as the ability to plan and organize one’s own learning process. A generalized sense of self-efficacy, however, is not critical to how we understand the concept of learning, assigning value to it, and the used learning techniques.

The modern development of society determines the forms and content of the process of teaching foreign languages. The quantity and quality of information in the field of mastering a foreign language is constantly growing as a means of sociocultural, linguistic and cultural and professional development of an individual. A foreign language is currently considered as an integral part of intercultural communication in various fields of objective reality and the development of a culture of interethnic communication. In the process of teaching a foreign language, technologies are becoming increasingly important which makes it possible to achieve the required level of communicative competence in speaking and writing in a shorter time frame and to recreate a virtual spatial temporal communication environment with native speakers. In this regard, the form of distance learning can be more and more prospective, being psychologically more comfortable for students and teachers; many of its elements can be integrated into other forms of training. The article exposes certain information technologies, the use of which increases the effectiveness of teaching a foreign language in distance, part-time and full-time courses. On the example of specific interactive multimedia Internet resources in the field of learning the German language, the urgent importance of using computerized teaching methods for acquiring and enhancing pronunciation, lexical and grammatical skills and knowledge with the aim of forming linguistic and cultural and professional competence of students is emphasized. At the same time, the article highlights importance of non-verbal forms of communication for achieving the desired effect of verbal communication, while relying on relevant audiovisual Internet resources.

The author presented the results of research on the sense of self- efficacy and styles of coping with stress young special needs teachers, who take cooperation with people with disabilities, and who are obliged to cope with adversity and to help in the fight against distress their dependents. Research conducted in quantitative strategies, using the normalized and standardized tests: GSES - Generalized Self - Efficacy Scale by Schwarcer and Jerusalem in Polish adaptation by Schwarcer, Jerusalem and Juczyński, and CISS - Coping Inventory for Stressful Situation by Endler and Parker, in Polish adaptation by Strelau, Jaworowski, Wrześniewski and Szczepaniak from 2009.

PurposeBuilding on the self-efficacy theory and self-theories, the purpose of this paper is to investigate students working part-time whilst pursuing full-time higher education in Cambodia. It explores individuals’ part-time working activities, career aspirations and self-efficacy.Design/methodology/approachData were collected in a cross-sectional survey of 850 business and social sciences degree students, with 199 (23.4 per cent) usable responses, of which 129 (65.2 per cent of the sample) indicated they currently have a job.FindingsMultiple regression analysis confirmed part-time work as a significant predictor of self-efficacy. There was a positive recognition of the value of part-time work, particularly in informing career aspirations. Female students were significantly more positive about part-time work, demonstrating significantly higher career aspirations than males. Results also suggest that students recognise the value that work experience hold in identifying future career directions and securing the first graduate position.Practical implicationsThere are potential implications for approaches to curriculum design and learning, teaching and assessment for universities. There are also clear opportunities to integrate work-based and work-related learning experience into the curriculum and facilitate greater collaboration between higher education institutions and employers in Cambodia.Social implicationsThere are implications for recruitment practices amongst organisations seeking to maximise the benefits derived from an increasingly highly educated workforce, including skills acquisition and development, and self-efficacy.Originality/valueIt investigates the importance of income derived from part-time working to full-time university students in a developing South-East Asian country (Cambodia), where poverty levels and the need to contribute to family income potentially predominate the decision to work while studying.

Purpose Sustainability is seeking for a new approach to bolster organisational success as it is expected to be mobilised through collaborative efforts of employees and management. The present study aims to examine the moderating role of sustainability practices between self-efficacy and organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB). Design/methodology/approach A total of 527 full-time executives employed in Indian public and private manufacturing industries were surveyed. Harman’s single-factor test was carried out using analysis of moment structures (AMOS 20.0) to test the bias associated because of common method variance (CMV). Moderated regression analysis was used through hierarchical models to test the proposed hypotheses. Findings The results indicate a positive relationship between self-efficacy and OCB. The significant moderation effect was observed in the interaction graph, as the simple slope analysis indicated relatively high level of sustainability practices and self-efficacy and they were found to be positively associated with OCB. Research limitations/implications The cross-sectional sample of executives employed in Indian manufacturing organisations limits the generalisation of the findings. The study has not figured the temporal effects and hence longitudinal studies have also been proposed for the assessment of causality. Practical implications Organisations are expected to foster inclusiveness and open channel of communication with their employees to execute best sustainable practices. HR department need to create awareness among their employees and establish an ongoing feedback mechanism to promote such psychological drives. Originality/value The proposed model and the subsequent findings of the study extend the literature on the relationship among self-efficacy, OCB and sustainability practices. The outcome of this work can be used by HR functionaries and senior management practitioners while formulating and implementing the sustainability strategies.

One of the controversial issues in manufacturing companies is bottleneck. Managers and engineers try to deal with this difficulty to improve the productivity such as increasing resource utilization and throughput. One color factory is selected as a case study in this paper. This company tries to identify and decrease the bottlenecks in the production line. The goal of this paper is building the simulation model of production line to improve the productivity by analyzing the bottleneck. To achieve this goal, statistical method named design of experiment (DOE) was performed in order to find the optimum combination of factors that have the significant effect on the process productivity. The analysis shows that all of the main factors have a significant effect on the production line productivity. The optimum value of productivity is achieved when the number of delpak mixer (C) and number of lifter (D) to be located at high level that is equal to 2 and 2 respectively. The most significant conclusion of this study is that 3.2 labors are required to reach maximum productivity based on the resource utilization and cost. It means that 3 full time labors and one part time labor should be employed for the production line.

To survey the expansion of British higher education during the last twenty years is to conduct an inquest into an almost unmitigated disaster. The greatly enlarged university system and the new polytechnics have yielded few of the advantages originally claimed by the proponents of rapid growth. The main reason for this failure is that “expansion” has generally been seen as “more of the same.” Since the 1950s, and particularly since the authoritative Robbins Report of 1963, the new universities and polytechnics have too easily become replicas of the old. Higher education has remained geared to the traditional Oxbridge function — the provision of full time, non-vocational, residential, degree courses for 18 – 22 year olds. Significantly, one of the most notable success stories has been the Open University. Unlike conventional institutions, this has introduced a fresh concept of higher education. It offers part time courses catering mainly for adults. The courses are based on correspondence materials and television lectures. The Open University has shown how it is possible to extend the role of the university.

Purpose How psychological variables especially self-efficacy plays significant role to attain workplace well-being is yet to be explained. The extant literature calls for further research works in the field of sustainability practices to bridge the gap between self-efficacy and workplace well-being. The purpose of this paper is to extend the literature of workplace well-being while scientifically examining the moderating role of sustainability practices. Design/methodology/approach The study collected data from 527 full-time executives of Indian public and private manufacturing industries. The authors performed moderated regression analysis through a series of hierarchical models to test the hypotheses of the study. Findings The result indicates positive relationship between self-efficacy and workplace well-being. Furthermore, the result suggests that the relationship between self-efficacy and workplace well-being was stronger among executives with high level of sustainability practices and vice versa. Research limitations/implications The cross-sectional sample of executives employed in Indian manufacturing organizations limits the generalizability of the findings. Practical implications HR functionaries and senior management may benefit by closely examining their sustainability practices along with their employees perceived ability to address workplace well-being. Originality/value The study contributes to extend the literature on self-efficacy and workplace well-being. This research work is one of the first few studies to examine the moderating effect of sustainability practices.
