<span>The potential importance of interactive multimedia in the tertiary environment and in physics education is well recognised world wide, with development projects being funded by universities and government bodies. To date, however, there have been few opportunities to critically assess the importance, acceptability and suitability of these new techniques to physics education. Our study evaluated an interactive tutorial, developed at the Australian National University, covering the photoelectric effect and related material targeted at first and second year students. Pre- and post-test questionnaires using scaled and open answers, observations by teaching staff and informal discussions, were conducted with 35 students in the Department of Physics and Theoretical Physics. Results from an independent survey of the course were also obtained. Our principal conclusion is that while interactive multimedia shows a high degree of acceptability with our study group, any practical application must have a meaningful assessable component and be fully integrated into the lecture series, as opposed to being offered as a study resource alone.</span>

Background. The article discusses the experience of the teaching staff of the Department of Special Piano of the Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts. One of the innovations of the department was the use of instructive piano repertoire in the educational process for better development of piano skills among students. It has been proved that the acquisition of a technical base as a necessary basis for piano mastery is impossible without the systematic use of instructive etudes – relatively small instrumental pieces with a specific technical purpose. The correct choice of the complexity of the lessons, their compliance with the student’s level of development is a determining factor in the successful development of a pianist. Thus, an instructive piano repertoire is very useful not only at the initial stage of the pedagogical process, but is also extremely necessary at the subsequent stages of the professional pianistic education of a young musician. Objectives. The purpose of the article is to justify the need to use a number of instructive etudes for piano in junior undergraduate musical challenges, to draw the attention of students and teachers to their wider development and use in educational and concert practice. Methods. The methodology of the article is based on the totality of scientific approaches necessary to uncover problem, combining the principle of musical-theoretical, performing analysis as well as methodical and pedagogical observations. Conclusions. Statement of the main material. For the formation of the pianistic apparatus, the pupil, and then the student, needs etudes, thanks to which you need to develop strength, evenness, independence and fluency of the fingers. But the process must be complicated gradually: it is impossible to move on to mastering a more complex task, if it is simpler, it remains unresolved. It should be noted that the division of etudes into instructive and characteristic, as well as characteristic – concert and artistic is very conditional and, first of all, is determined by the level of composer skill of their authors. For the performer, any, even the simplest musical construction, should be played expressively, understood intonationally, and built dramatically. Therefore, even in the simplest and easiest etudes, novice pianists need to be tuned to the fact that this composition is highly artistic and attitude to its should be appropriate. In the subsequent educational process of mastering pianism, an accurate algorithm should be built up that allows using the huge arsenal of piano etudes to properly develop the student, to give him the opportunity to form the perfect pianistic apparatus, while instilling not only appropriate motion, but also auditory professional skills. For the formation of the piano apparatus and many auditory skills, not only schoolchildren but also students need to develop strength, equality, independence and speed of the fingers. This role should be performed by instructive and characteristic sketches. It is noted that one of the substantive dominants of the etude genre is the formularity of the musical language, the game moment, the implementation of which allows one to overcome a technical problem, which forms the basis of pianism both in motor skills and intonation. Results. The importance of the correct choice of etudes during the entire process of training a pianist is proved. Unfortunately, we often observe how the unhealthy ambitions of a teacher negatively affect students. It is necessary to adequately assess the level of capabilities of the young performer, and most importantly, with the help of correctly selected sketches, step by step, professionally develop his motor and auditory skills. In no case should students be given complex artistic etudes if their pianistic apparatus is not yet fully formed! For this purpose, the decision was made at the special piano department of the Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts: to pass instructive etudes of a high degree of complexity in junior undergraduate courses without fail.

<p class="Abstract">This research aims to produce student worksheet based on interactive multimedia on photoelectric effect to grow science process skills that are attractive, easy, useful, and study to improve students learning out comes. The development design used in this research by Sugiono which implemented in 8 stages, they are potential and problem, data collecting, product design, validation design, revision design, product trial, product, and trial usage. Trial usage of the product was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung in October 2016 to November 2016 and the research subject was twelve grade classes. The sampling technique of product trial subjects done by purpose sampling, it took two same classes. One class used as an experimental class and the other class as a control class. Trial product design used Matching-Only Pretest-Post test Control Group Design method. Data collecting technique used questionnaire and test (pretest and post test). The data were analyzed by using a descriptive quantitative method. The conclusions of the research are: (1) Student worksheet to build scientific process skills on photoelectric effect should include predicting and hypothesizing activities, planning the experiment, doing the practicum, interpreting the observation, and communicating. (2) Student worksheet of development result has an attractiveness level with the average score is 3.27 or 81.74% with “interesting” category, ease level with the average score is 3.25 or 81.32 with “simple”, and usefulness level with the average score is 3.21 or 80.13% of “useful” category. (3) Student worksheet of development result is effective to improve students learning outcomes in science process skills with N-gain average is 0.63 with the medium.</p>

AbstractMotivated by widespread concerns for representation and equity in physics education, this study investigates negotiations of identity positions of master’s students in physics. The goal is to explore how sociocultural features of physics can structure the possibilities for becoming a physicist. Interviews with international master’s students in physics were analyzed focusing on perceived norms about physics and how students responded to and negotiated these in crafting a position as competent physicists-to-be. The results show how physics master’s students from varying backgrounds have to negotiate stereotypes of intelligence and nerdiness, as well as an implicit ranking of physics specializations. The stereotype that physicists are intelligent and nerdy is further complicated in physics studies, as some specializations—the more pure and theoretical—are viewed as more intellectually demanding and are in this way accorded a higher status. Students on these specializations are simultaneously seen as more intelligent and more nerdy, while a perception that students who choose other subjects do this just because they are not good enough to do theoretical physics is perpetuated. These notions become significant in relation to western society’s high regard of authentic intelligence and idolization of geniuses, ideas that can serve as powerful ideals in physics. This study gives novel insight about how well-known norms and stereotypes about physics come to matter in physics master’s students’ negotiations to become recognized as competent physicists.

This study developed a learning model to improve students’ early reading skills in Indonesia. The model is based on social cognitive learning theory and is implemented using interactive multimedia. The research method uses Design-Based Research (DBR) and the subjects are 195 first and second graders of an elementary school in Bandung, West Java. The findings of the study show that social cognitive learning can be integrated and implemented through interactive multimedia and that interactive-multimedia-assisted social cognitive model (IMAS Model) can improve early reading skills. Students’ average early reading skill scores were measured using Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) instrument before and after intervention to see the effectiveness of the model. Pre-test – post-test results comparison showed that students’ average early reading scores increased after learning using IMAS Model. Students’ average scores of reading letters, reading syllables, reading words, reading sentences, and reading comprehension skills at pre-test were 78.06, 67.06, 60.92, 55.21, and 44.95, respectively. These scores respectively increased to 92.71, 92.45, 88.58, 74.60, and 87.08 at post-test, indicating that IMAS Model is effective to increase early reading skills.

The readiness of the teaching staff of higher educational institutions for teaching and psychological and pedagogical support of students with disabilities is being considered. We emphasize that the personnel of the educational organization need special competence to work with persons with disabilities of various nosological groups. The issues of creating an accessible environment in the university were studied, the readiness of teachers to apply special educational technologies in the training of students with disabilities, to develop teaching and methodological materials; the ability to establish pedagogically appropriate relationships with students, and provide psychological and pedagogical support in matters of personal and professional self-determination. The results show a high degree of importance of special professional competencies for inclusive education. But, at the same time, teachers assess their own level of preparedness with students with disabilities as insufficient, which allowed to determine the main areas of work.

To help realize UNP's vision towards a research-based university, awareness of Educators is needed to be active in providing innovation in classroom learning such as transforming conventional learning into research-based learning. This aim of this study was to analyze the implementation of research-based learning in Integrated Science courses Class VII in an effort to improve the ability to think critically and creatively. The study used the Quasi Experimental Research method with the design of the Pretest-posttest Control Group Design. The study was conducted in two sample classes obtained from cluster random sampling techniques by providing research-based learning treatment to the experimental class and ordinary learning to the control class. The research data was pre-test and post-test instrument, student response questionnaire and observation sheet during the learning process. With the implementation of research-based learning, the ability to think critically and creatively students of Physics Education FMIPA UNP was expected to be able to increase.

Active Learning Strategies to Improve Understanding of Fundamental Physics Objects. Physics is one of the subjects considered difficult by students. The learning strategies applied by the teacher must be well structured in order to be able to provide understanding to students. Active learning strategies need to be done to improve understanding of physics properly and correctly. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of active learning to improve understanding of physics in prospective teachers. This active learning strategy is combined with causalitics and cognitive conflict learning methods which are applied to inter-semester course material at the end of the 2018 – 2019 school year. Learning with this combination of methods is able to provide a good understanding of existing students. The post-test results, which were compared with the pre-test results, showed an increase in the average student understanding of up to 24%. Active learning is proven to be able to improve the understanding of lecture material for students.  Keywords: active learning, physics education

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the contribution of academic and professional institutions in promoting the awareness and knowledge of Islamic banking and finance in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach The data were generated through a documentary research method by examining the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) for Nigerian universities and Nigerian university curricula for the relevant undergraduate programs, as well as examination syllabi and training brochures for the relevant professional associations. Findings The study found that universities do not promote significantly the awareness and knowledge of Islamic banking and finance. Similarly, the relevant professional associations through their examinations and training programs contribute little or nothing to the promotion of awareness and knowledge. Research limitations/implications This study solely relied upon documentary evidence upon which the findings were based. In addition, for academic institutions, only undergraduate BMAS and curricula were examined. Practical implications There should be collaborations between the National University Commission of Nigeria, relevant Islamic and non-Islamic professional bodies and Nigerian Universities to ensure that courses (subjects) that could promote the awareness and knowledge of Islamic banking and finance are fully integrated into academic and professional curricula and training programs. Social implications The integration of an adequate number of relevant courses/topics into academic curricula and professional institution examination syllabi and their Mandatory Continuing Professional Development programs would greatly contribute to the production of competent and skillful employees to work for the growth and development of the Islamic banking and finance industry. Originality/value This study provides better ways of ensuring that knowledgeable and qualified employees are produced to work for the sustainability of the global Islamic banking and finance industry.

The aim of this work has been to detect the differences and similarities from the point of view of Music Education among the Programas Renovados (Renewed Programs), the last document published in Spain before the emergence of the curriculum concept and how we conceive it today, and the Real Decree 1006/1991, that established the curricula for Primary School. For this, a comparative analysis of the aforementioned texts has been carried out through a documentary analysis that has allowed to contrast the legal framework, the character, the curricular functions, the configuration of the music area, structure, elements, musical areas, as well as the degree of concretion of both documents. The results reveal a high degree of difference between the Renewed Programs and Royal Decree 1006/1991 regarding the curricular functions, because the former served as a guide for the teaching staff, while the latter, in addition to the previous function, made explicit the intentions of the educational system for the stage. Likewise, a high degree of difference between the structure of the Musical Education elements of both documents has been verified. However, it has been observed a common presence of contents related to different areas of Music Education (singing, instrumentation, listening, movement and dance...), as well as a dual approach that includes the perceptual dimension and expressive of them.

Background: Schizophrenia is one of the commonly occurring disorders, often causing a high degree of disability to the patients, as well as being stressful to the caregivers. Many people are still unaware that there are effective treatments for schizophrenia. A combination of regular medication, family education and support reduce the relapse rate from 50% to 60%. Psychoeducation interventions provide information to patients and their families as well as provide the tools necessary to cope with the disorder. Aim: The study aimed to find the efficacy of psycho-education on knowledge regarding schizophrenia among care givers of patients by conducting pretest before intervention and posttest after intervention. Methods: Pre-experimental one group pre-test and posttest design was used for this study. The sample of 50 care givers were selected using purposive sampling technique consists of care givers of schizophrenia patients admitted in psychiatric ward. The study was conducted at the selected state govt. hospital IMHANS Srinagar J&K India. Data was collected using structured knowledge questionnaire. The researcher first explained the aim of the evaluation and invited family members to take part. After consenting to participate in the study, family members were assessed in group of twenty five. Result: mean knowledge score at pre-test was 8.94+5.101 and 27.66+1.814 at post test. There was significant difference in knowledge scores of pre-test and post-test p<0.001).There was no significant association between knowledge score and demographic variables. Conclusion: There was significant gain in knowledge score of care givers. The study concluded that psycho education was effective in increasing the knowledge of care givers of schizophrenia patients. Psycho education of the family members is the key to understand about the illness and provide better care to the patient.
