AbstractAn optimized packaging configuration for high-power white-light-emitting diode (LED) lamps that employs a diffuse reflector cup, a remote phosphor and a hemi-spherically-shaped encapsulation is presented. Ray tracing simulations for this configuration show that the phosphor efficiency can be enhanced by up to 50% over conventional packages. It is experimentally shown that dichromatic LED lamps with remote phosphor and diffuse reflector cup configuration have higher phosphor efficiency by 15.4% for blue-pumped yellow phosphor and by 27% for ultraviolet-pumped blue phosphor over conventional packages. Those improvements are attributed to reduced absorption of the phosphorescence by the LED chip and the reduction of deterministic optical modes trapped inside the encapsulant.

In this paper, the optical-thermal characteristics for single-power light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are firstly studied based on experiment and theory, with both results in good agreement. Based on the results of single-power LED, an optical system is proposed with thermal-optical LED array modules, which are assembled upon a spherical base plate with heat sink. By simulation, the optical system is proved to provide uniform illumination. The luminance uniformity of the illuminated target is up to 0.9. The thermal effects under different heat convection coefficient and power consumption on the LED array modules are discussed in detail. Based on the heat transfer characteristics for the LED system, the approximate allowable power consumption for modules can be found.

High-power light emitting diode (LED) develops greatly owing to its energy efficiency, light mono-direction and long operating life. But it is critical to have a secondary optics design for the LED street light, for obtaining good output efficiency and light distribution pattern. This article introduces many advantages of LED as street lightings source, and also analyzes the status and features of LED lamps’ application as street lightings. This article mainly designs a secondary optical light distribution implement using Lighttools 7.1. This paper also gives an example of one kind of freeform surfaces lens which can realize rectangular light shape.
