Abstract. In this study, a novel rotary cleaning device was used for the separation and cleaning of wheat grains. This research analyzed the influence of the inclination angle of the sieve drum (K) of the device on the quality of these processes. In this article, the results obtained for four selected rotational speeds (nb) of the sieve drum are presented. The quality of the separation and cleaning of the wheat grains was evaluated using three cleaning process parameters: coefficient of plump grain mass separation (Wz), coefficient of fine impurities separation (Wd), and total coefficient of cleaning effectiveness (E). Based on statistical analysis of the results, the inclination angle of the sieve drum had a significant effect on the quality of the wheat grain separation process. Coefficient Wz was highest for sieve drum inclination angles of K = 0° and K = 2.5°, whereas Wd was highest for K = -2.5°. The total coefficient of cleaning effectiveness (E) was characterized by different values for different inclination angles of the sieve drum. Keywords: Cleaning effectiveness, Conical sieve, Rotary cleaning device, Wheat grain cleaning.

The article presents some of the research on the wider work related to testing and improving a new rotary cleaning device. The new cereal grain cleaning and separation device can support the development of sustainable agriculture in terms of seed purity and quality. This device is especially useful for small and medium-sized farms. This device has the characteristics of a multi-stage screen aided by an air stream (i.e., by pneumoseparation). The prototype was constructed at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin. The research was conducted at a test stand, which allowed changes in the operating parameters of the cleaner and their measurement. The scope of the tests included determining the influence of the inclination angle of the sieve unit (α) on the effectiveness and efficiency of oat grain cleaning. The experiment was carried out using two rotational spindle speeds: 5 and 75 rpm. The quality of the separation and cleaning of oat grains was evaluated using six cleaning process parameters: plump grain mass separation coefficient (Spg), fine grain separation coefficient (Sfg), fine impurities separation coefficient (Sfi), chaff separation coefficient (Sch), total coefficient of cleaning effectiveness (E), plump grain cleaning efficiency (qpg). Results showed the significant effect of the sieve drum inclination angle on the efficiency and effectiveness of oat grain cleaning.

Highlights Cleaning cereal grain after harvest is very important for the quality of the product. Technological progress enables the design of new equipment for cleaning cereal grain. Grain segregation allows selecting the best grain to increase yields. The quality of segregation depends on the technological parameters of the device. Abstract. This article presents the results of laboratory tests of a new rotary cleaning device used for the separation and cleaning of barley grain. This device has the characteristics of a multi-stage screen assisted by an air stream (i.e., pneumo-separation). The prototype was constructed at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Poland. The tests were conducted on a test stand, which allowed changes in the operating parameters of the cleaning device and their measurement. The tests included determining the influence of the sieve drum inclination angle (a) on the effectiveness and efficiency of barley grain cleaning. The tests were carried out using two drum rotational speeds: 5 rpm and 75 rpm. The quality of the separation and cleaning of barley grain was evaluated using six cleaning process parameters: plump grain separation coefficient (Spg), fine grain separation coefficient (Sfg), fine impurities separation coefficient (Sfi), chaff separation coefficient (Sch), total coefficient of cleaning effectiveness (E), and plump grain cleaning efficiency (qpg). The results showed significant effects of the sieve drum inclination angle on the efficiency and effectiveness of barley grain cleaning. The tillage implement plowshare acts on the soil similarly to a wedge-ripper. This is the most loaded and fast wearing part. The wedge-ripper blade when worn usually becomes dull quickly, and an occipital chamfer is formed on the back side. It creates additional traction resistance, prevents the blade introduction into the processed area, reduces the productivity and quality of agricultural implements work. (Research purpose) To determine the occipital chamfer inclination angle influence of the wedge-ripper in the range of 5-25 degrees on the resultant loading force characteristics. (Materials and methods) The authors conducted laboratory tests of wedge-ripper experimental samples made with different occipital chamfer inclination angle on the blades edges back sides. The authors used installation for accelerated testing of soil-cutting parts and strain gauging equipment. On all samples, the wedge-ripper front surface inclination was set to 30 degrees. They changed the occipital chamfer inclination angle from 5 to 25 degrees. (Results and discussion). The authors found out that a change in the occipital chamfer inclination angle was accompanied by a change in energy indices during its movement in a sandy area. It was determined that the lower layer of the sandy area in the zone of the occipital chamfer did not fully penetrate the lower layers, and with an increase in the occipital chamfer inclination angle, a part of the sandy layer was unloaded in front of the blade and hit the wedge-ripper front surface. (Conclusions) The authors found out that with an increase in the occipital chamfer inclination angle at the blade edge, the wedge-ripper resistance increased when it was moved in a granular area. It was found out that in the contact zone between the occipital chamfer and the lower layers of the processed area at small inclination angles up to 5 degrees, the layer was crushed, and when the angle was increased to 25 degrees, additional unloading of the area in front of the blade was observed, which increased the working body resistance and the total energy consumption of the work process. The authors showed that for a direct wedge-ripper, the vector inclination angle of the resultant force to the horizontal decreased from 20 to 17 degrees.

Cleaning and sorting agricultural materials are important processes in agricultural production. Many researchers have carried out important work on the study of the optimization of the parameters of grain cleaning machines. One of these parameters that affect the quality of the machine is the shape and parameters of the screen separator. A model of wheat grain in the EDEM Simulation software package is presented. Analysis of the results obtained using the contact model Hertz-Mindlin (no slip) with RVD Rolling Friction showed a significant spread in the speeds of grain material movement along the length of the sieves. The described method can be used to solve the problem of finding the flow rate of grain material when designing grain cleaning machines, with subsequent optimization of their functioning.

The food industry faces the problem of soil contamination and consequently the deterioration of the quality of plant products. Here, we present a study on evaluation of the effect of fertilization with sewage sludge (SL) with varying, rates of biochar (BC 2.5, 5 and 10% of DW) on yield quality and the accumulation of heavy metals in wheat grains. The greatest grain yield with the highest content of protein and gluten as well as the highest total content of phenols and flavonoids, was obtained when SL+5%BC fertilization was applied. The addition of 5%BC and 10%BC to SL resulted in the greatest increase in the antioxidant capacity of grain. Among phenolic acids, syringic acid was found in the largest amount in grain in the SL+2.5%BC treatment. A significant decrease in Pb accumulation in wheat grain after application of SL+5%BC and a successive decrease in Al content with increasing BC addition were observed. To increase the quality of wheat grains and to reduce the bioaccumulation of harmful elements after the application of biochar to the soil is important in the context of food safety and health of humans especially in food production on acidic and/or contaminated soils.

The effect of hydrothermal treatment on the strength of the wheat grain shell before the first torn process is investigated. It was found that the anatomical parts of wheat grains grown in arid climatic conditions are firmly interconnected, which, in turn, affects the yield and quality of varietal flour. The aim of the study is to weaken strong native connections and improve the yield and quality of flour. The effect of NaHCO3, H3PO4, CH3COOH, HCl additives to water on the yield and quality of flour was studied. Accordingly, in solutions of 0.1-0.2% hydrochloric acid and 0.3-0.8% phosphoric acid, an increase in the yield of flour and an improvement in its baking properties were determined.
