This paper presents an analysis of the innovation performance of furniture enterprises in Bulgaria for two periods – before the economic crisis and after it. It contains general characteristics of the Furniture industry (structure of the enterprises, different type of production, export and import) and the results of the surveys of the innovation activity for two 3 year periods. The results from the studies are of the periods: 2006-2008 (563 enterprises) and 2014-2016 (358 enterprises) and are based on officially used EU definitions and indicators (European Commission, OECD, Oslo Manual), which allows for comparability of results. The used indicators are: introduced product innovations, introduced process innovations, introduced organizational innovations, introduced marketing innovations, revenues and costs of innovation and financing of the innovation activities. The results of the comparative analyses of the innovation activity of the furniture enterprises in Bulgaria for the two periods under review showed an increase in: the innovation expenditures and revenues from innovative products, the process innovations -  additional  activities and the financing of innovation activities by the EU. Abstract Research background: Innovation activities, especially the implementation of new products and processes are desirable phenomena in economic development. For this reason, phenomena that contribute to the implementation of new solutions in enterprises should be identified. These include sources of innovation activity. Purpose: The main purpose of the article is to identify those sources of innovation activity that significantly affect product and process innovation. Research methodology: The research of the impact of sources of ideas and information for innovation on the implementation of product and process innovations was conducted in 2018 for the period 2015–2017 in the West Pomerania Province. The study was representative. It was attended by 270 entrepreneurs whose business profile corresponds to section C PKD (Polish Business Classification) – manufacturing. Logit modeling was used in the study. Results: As a result of the analyses it was noticed that in the region the implementation of process innovations was significantly influenced by foreign R&D centres, suppliers (but only when entrepreneurs began to cooperate with them), as well as by conferences, fairs and exhibitions. In the case of product innovations, internal resources were included in this group. Novelty: In the analyzed region, no advanced econometric analysis of the impact of sources of innovative activity on product and process innovations that would be representative was carried out.

Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to recognize significant innovation determinants on firms’ product, process, and overall innovation activity. Methodology/Approach: The source of data for the analysis is the Community Innovation Survey 2012-2014. If the company has implemented the relevant innovation activity, they acquire a value of 1, or, if the company has not performed a certain activity in the period, they reached 0. As the variables are binary, the logistic regression analysis was used. Findings: Based on the results from the analysis, we defined the proper determinants of firms’ innovation activities but unfortunately, firms are not able to achieve innovative outputs, specifically within CEE countries. This is due, among other things, to several factors such as different conditions in individual countries, different innovation policies at the national as well as company level, managerial approach (aversion) to risk, mistrust between the various actors, and many others. A typical example is the impact of internal R&D on firm innovations. While in the case of product innovations we found a significant positive impact, in the case of process innovations the impact was negative Research Limitation/Implication: We performed on outdated data and we did not make a comparison with countries from Western Europe. Originality/Value of paper: The paper analyses innovation determinants and it is importance for innovation activities within the CEE countries.

The manufacturing industry is becoming increasingly more complex as the paradigm of mass-production moves, via mass-customization, towards personalized production and Industry 4.0. This increased complexity in the production system also makes everyday work for shop-floor operators more complex. To take advantage of this complexity, shop-floor operators need to be properly supported in order to perform their important work. The shop-floor operators in this future complex manufacturing industry, the Operator 4.0, need to be supported with the implementation of new cognitive automation solutions. These automation solutions, together with the innovativeness of new processes and organizations will increase the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry. This paper discusses three different aspects of production innovation in the context of the needs and preferences of information for Operator 4.0. Conclusively, product innovations can be applied in the manufacturing processes, and thus becoming process innovations, but the implementation of such innovations require organizational innovations.

The article presents the results of research of separate aspects of the process of complex assessment of the strategic management level of the enterprise innovative development on the basis of the methodology of multi-purpose analysis of the situations of making managerial decisions in conditions of uncertainty, conflict and risk. An appropriate system of generalized and partial indicators of the functioning of the enterprise, which influence the level of its innovation development, is formed. It includes: 1) a subsystem of the indicators of a generalized assessment of the state of organizational, technical and economic development of the enterprise; 2) a subsystem of effective quality indicators for assessing the level of strategic management of innovative development of the enterprise. In order to carry out the analysis of the factors impact on the results of the innovation activity of the enterprise, a modified aggregate rating criterion is chosen. It is based on the average geometric value of the detailed indicators. The above-mentioned facts allow obtaining integrated assessments of the level of strategic management of innovative development of the enterprise by reducing the negative impact of the levelling of individual indicators, the values of which fall out of the general trend of the studied processes. It is noted that the property of taking into account the antagonism of the economic environment is inherent to the recommended for use in the process of integrated assessment of the level of strategic management of innovative development of the enterprise by the average geometric meanings of the detailed indicators that characterize the situation of making innovative decisions. Thus, to some extent, it is possible to take into account the continuous overall impact of the competitive environment of the enterprise. In order to carry out an in-depth study of assessments of the level of strategic management of innovation development and innovative activity of the enterprise as a whole, a structural diagram of construction of a functional of estimating the integral indicator of the formalized situation of making innovative decisions is formed. The basic scheme of estimation of the level of strategic management of innovation development of the enterprise is developed. According to this scheme, we have determined the key stages of the research. They are the monitoring of key partial performance indicators of an enterprise, which affect the final results of innovation activity; the assessment of the organizational and technical level of development of productive forces of the enterprise; the integral assessment of the level of security and effectiveness of strategic management of innovation activities; the integrated assessment of the level of effectiveness of strategic management of innovative development of the enterprise. The indicator "stock of financial strength" has been determined as a priority indicator in assessing the situation of the adoption of innovative solutions.

The dynamics of indicators of innovation activities of Russia’s federal districts over 2005– 2019 has been studied. During this period, there has been an increase in the number of organisations that carried out research activities, and also in the total domestic expenditure on research and development. The number of new production technologies and the volume of innovative products produced has increased, and the payback rate on research and development costs has risen in all regions. The trends of decreasing in the innovation activities of organisations and a significant reduction in the number of personnel employed in the field of research and development have been detected. The share of new products in the total volume of products shipped remains low. This situation requires national and regional authorities to take appropriate regulatory actions.
