Purpose This paper aims to assess the relationship between a knowledge-based economy and fraudulent financial reporting. Design/methodology/approach The study is descriptive-correlation based on published information from enlisted firms on the Tehran Stock Exchange during 2013–2019 with a sample of 178 firms (1,246 observations). The method used for hypothesis testing is linear regression using the panel data. Findings The results show that a knowledge-based economy is associated negatively and significantly with financial reporting. Moreover, robust testing has also examined the hypotheses (including fixed effects, OLS and t + 1) that confirmed the study’s preliminary results. Originality/value As the study was carried out in the emergent financial markets, like Iran, to figure out the relationship between knowledge-based economy and financial reporting, it can provide helpful information for the practitioners in this field.

The CSR theme has taken on an increasingly central role within financial markets. In fact, the last decade has been characterized by a rapid development of “socially responsible” investment, conventionally known as SRI. In this sense, an increasing number of listed firms have reported their non-financial information to the purpose to favor the interaction with their stakeholders. The relevance of these information tools stems from the need to protect investors against companies operating through greenwashing mechanisms. The aim of this research is to assess the effect of CSR on financial economic performance. As already happened within similar studies concerning economic entities different from Italy, the study assesses how the ability to generate income, and, thus, to distribute value towards the shareholder, are influenced by the orientation of companies in the field of sustainability accounting and the aptitude to check the environmental risk associated with the exercise of business activity.

In financial markets, transparency of financial information is one of the most effective variables of investment strategies. Information asymmetry can seriously affect firm performance on the stock exchange and firms with a poor informational environment can lose the interest of investors. Reducing information asymmetry can have an important effect on firm performance on the stock exchange. Firms may lack a clear informational environment in the market because of the emerging conditions governing the Tehran Stock Exchange. Because larger and more active firms on the Tehran Stock Exchange provide more information, measuring the informational environment of these firms provides an overview of information asymmetry. The present study calculated the information asymmetry in these firms using the PIN and FE indices. The inconsistent results provided by these indices prompted the authors to offer a new index that is a composite of the PIN and FE that can better explain information asymmetry in developing market such as Asian stock markets. The results show that the new composite index, by using the mechanisms of the PIN and FE indices, provides a better outcome. The new composite index shows that the Tosee Melli Inv (TMEL1), Mobarakeh Steel (FOLD1), Iran Mobil Tele (HMRZ1), Saipa (SIPA1) and I.N.C. Ind. (MSMI1) firms have a better informational environment on the Tehran Stock Exchange.

This study investigated to examine the relationship between information asymmetry and government ownership to dividend policy. Information asymmetry is measured using bid-ask spreads, while government ownership is measured using the number of government shares divided by the number of outstanding shares multiplied by 100 %. This study uses purposive sampling with a total sample of 9 sub-companies construction and building listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (ISE) in 2016-2019. The data used is quantitative data and data sources were taken from the company's annual financial statements. Descriptive statistics and panel data regression are used as data analysis tools. The results showed that information asymmetry has a positive and significant effect on dividend policy, government ownership does not have a significant negative effect on dividend policy, and the interaction of information asymmetry and government ownership moderates the dividend policy.

This study examined the influence of the characteristics of the audit committee on Palestinian firms’ value. The research explores precisely the effect on the Audit Committee characteristics’ efficiency, namely, independence, expertise, evaluating the relationship among dependent and independent variables. Secondary data collected from a list of companies were registered in the Palestine Stock Exchange from 2011 to 2018. Individual variables considered are the independence & expertise of the audit committee, whereas the ROA is employed as the dependent variable as an indicator of a firm’s value. The results showed that the Audit Committee’s independence & expertise substantially positive with ROA. The study concluded that the audit committee’s characteristics are enhancing firm performance. The implications of this study’s findings can be used by decisions and policymakers, the firm’s management, and other stockholders’ interests to create reliable ties between agents and the principals.

The importance that workplace fairness and information sharing has on employees’ performance has gained a significant attention from researchers and practitioners. However, no empirical evidence on the combined role of both workplace fairness and information sharing on employee performance has been found so far. Thus the purpose of this study is to examine the effects of workplace fairness and information sharing on employees’ performance in a budget setting. A set of direct and indirect hypotheses are tested using survey data collected from 108 sub-unit managers from various industries, randomly selected from Bursa Malaysia (the stock exchange of Malaysia). The findings indicate that both workplace fairness and information sharing are positively associated with improved employee performance in a participative budget setting. Furthermore, information sharing mediates the relationship between workplace fairness and employee performance. This suggests that when employees perceive the budgeting process as being fair, they would be more willing to share information, which will then lead to improved employee performance.

The study selected 410 companies on Viet Nam’s Stock Exchange during the period from 2012 to 2016, with 2050 observations as a sample of research, to analyze the relationship between cash holdings and investment levels. The findings show that cash holdings has a positive effect on investment levels: the higher cash holdings, the greater investment level. Also, the results show that investment levels are affected by the return on total assets but not affected by the size of the company. The research is empirical evidence that contributes to the limited investment in research in Vietnam and is a reference for those interested in investing in Vietnam and managers in strategic policy formulation.
