The use of industrial wastes as alternative adsorbents for wastewater treatment is proposed. The effective concentration of the adsorbent was determined experimentally. The results of a study of the intensification of biological wastewater treatment using activated carbon and a pulverized coke fraction are presented. The efficiency of treatment in terms of "chemical oxygen demand" during the intake of highly concentrated sewage sludge with the use of an alternative adsorbent averaged 85 %. In the biosorption system, the conservation of the species diversity of the biocenosis of activated sludge and its purifying ability was noted. In the biological treatment system, purification efficiency was recorded on average 16 % less and destabilization of the system as a whole. The carried out researches prove expediency of use of adsorbents, including production wastes, for intensification of biological wastewater treatment in aero tanks.

All around the world, activated sludge is the classical and traditional biological wastewater treatment for municipal and industrial wastewater. With the development of social and technology, the concentration of pollutants has been increased, so the performance of the old wastewater treatment plants not guaranteed. Therefore, upgrade and reconstruction wastewater treatment system becomes the main task of protection environment, especially in the developing countries. Application biofilms in process biological wastewater treatment is one of technology method and it has many advantages. In the Sequencing Batch Reactor, the Mutag BioChip 25TM provides to the bacteria an optimal habitat at the surface area, increasing rate of Utilization of Substrates 20 – 30% and efficiency of organic matter removal from 10 – 15%.

Parameters characterizing intrasolid, liquid/solid, and gas/liquid mass transport phenomena in biological treatment systems are required if mass transfer is to be included in process models. Estimates of such parameters are presented and discussed. Collective and individual effects of mass transfer resistances are illustrated by computer simulation of a high-rate trickling filter.

The purpose of the present research was to enhance the efficiency of biological wastewater treatment through the direct impact on the metabolism of activated sludge. In the course of research, species and quantitative composition of biological community of activated sludge in aeration tanks during wastewater purification process was studied. Comparative analysis was carried out for linen production wastewater and household sewage. Possible application of biological treatment in linen production was evaluated. Proposals were developed on creation of controllable biological treatment facility. In this paper, biological methods are shown to be efficient for household sewage treatment. Comparative analysis was carried out for linen production wastewater and household sewage. Possible application of biological treatment in linen production was evaluated. Abstract The treatment of wastewater for reuse is a potential solution to meet ever increasing urban, industrial, agricultural, and environmental demands across the world, where clean water availability is scarce. There are several traditional wastewater treatment processes that offer varying degrees of effectiveness in addition to presenting environmental, economic, and social disadvantages. Development of promising and inexpensive technologies to provide the reusable water in needful amounts using wastewaters as a cheap source of key nutrients and organic matter is required. Wastewater treatment by biological methods is becoming more important in the light of recovering value-added plant nutrients, heavy metals, biosolids, and bioenergy resources. Different types of solid contaminants in effluents can be removed simultaneously by pure cultures or mixed microbial consortia. Based on the structural organization of microbial biomass, biological treatment systems are classified into two types: dispersed growth system and attached growth system. Biological treatment methods associated with fixed-film growth have been recognized as highly effective and more energy efficient than suspended growth systems. This review discusses the recent breakthroughs in advanced biological wastewater treatment using both the systems, and also focuses on key energetic resources recovery driven by biological technologies.

The results of experimental studies on the evaluation of the possibility of using enzyme complexes in the biological treatment of waste water from pulp and paper enterprises are presented. The use of enzyme complexes will increase the efficiency of wastewater treatment by COD and BOD, and will also have a beneficial effect on the hydrochemical and hydrobiological characteristics of activated sludge. Experimental studies have determined the points of introduction of enzyme complexes into the technological scheme of biological wastewater treatment.
