Correlation between resistance to actinomycin D, karyology, agglutination by concanavalin A and tumorigenicity in Chinese hamster hybrid cells

Subclones isolated from a Chinese hamster hybrid line, derived from fusion of an actinomycin D-resistant and an actinomycin D-sensitive strain, were studied with respect to their resistance to actinomycin D, karyology, transplantability and agglutination by concanavalin A. Statistical analysis of the results allowed the establishment of a classification of the strains based on increasing resistance to actinomycin D. There appeared to be an inverse correlation between actinomycin D-resistance and tumorigenicity and a positive correlation between this resistance and the presence of a marker chromosome.

The paper analyzes the constructs of ‘play experience’ and ‘play experiencing ability’ from the perspective of cultural-historical psychology. The paper stresses the importance of education, play, art, wealth and cultural diversity in the formation of healthy and independent personality. The role of play experience as a healthful factor that allows an individual to acquire resistance to psychosomatic disorders is supported both theoretically and empirically. It is argued that the individual capable of play experience can transform the meaning of a situation (within his/her play experience) and therefore eliminate its psychotraumatic effect which contributes to the development of psychosomatic disorders. The paper provides outcomes of an empirical research with 73 participants (40 female, 33 male; aged 18—45, with the average age of 25 years). The statistical analysis revealed a significant inverse correlation between the level of the individual’s play experiencing ability and the level of his/her somatization (rs = -0,435; p ≤ 0,01), which confirms the research hypothesis.

Abstract Research background: The article discusses the issue of the identification and measurement of market characteristics of real estate for valuation purposes. This problem is the most difficult stage of the whole valuation process in terms of both a substantive, methodological and analytical basis. Goal: The aim of the research is to outline and explore on the basis of literature studies as well as developed problems to be solved in the process of mass valuation together with the presentation of an exemplary solution. Methodology: In the theoretical part a hypothetical-deductive method which consists of developing a certain hypothesis and deducing its consequences was applied. The empirical section uses the method of scientific discussion among scientists and practicing valuers and, for the presentation of the results; some graphical methods were used for a statistical analysis. Results: As a result of the conducted research, criteria to be used in identifying and classifying market characteristics for the purposes of valuation were identified and a set of market characteristics of properties was developed along with a method of identifying their states for the purposes of mass valuation. Novelty: The article proves that the problem of the identification and classification of market characteristics of real estate for valuation purposes is extremely important from the point of view of the valuation process and the results obtained as a result of it as well. In addition, for some features, it is proposed to develop special measures such as the plot shape attractiveness ratio. This meets the problem of the objective measurement of market features of real estate. In relation to other features, the legitimacy of the expert approach was pointed out.

In a study on the prevention of injury in patients with H63D syndrome and cataplexy, statistical analysis revealed an unexpected but clinically highly significant finding. Apparently, in this patient population, an inverse correlation exists between the severity of tic symptomatology on the one hand and narcolepsy with cataplexy on the other hand, as well as a parallel increase in the typical signs of degeneration observed in transcranial sonography of the substantia nigra. This finding has clinically far-reaching implications.

V79 Chinese hamster cells dissociated with 1 nm EDTA retain 2 kinds of cell adhesion mechanisms, one dependent on Ca2+ and the other independent of Ca2+. Ehrlich's ascites tumour (EAT) cells are provided with neither Ca2+-dependent nor CA2+-independent mechanisms. Studies on the aggregation of cells of 25 different hybrid clones obtained by fusing these 2 lined cells revealed the following points with regard to adhesive properties of hybrid cells. (1) The activity of the Ca2+-independent mechanism was lower in most hybrid clones than in parental V79 cells. (2) There were a few hybrid clones whose Ca2+-dependent mechanism activity was lower than in V79 cells. In these clones, the Ca2+-independent mechanism was also less active than the parental cells. (3) A hybrid clone with reduced Ca2+-dependent mechanism activity only was not found. (4) All the hybrid clones have at least one set of chromosomes derived from V79. (5) The number of chromosomes derived from EAT cells tended to be less in hybrid clones with lower aggregative ability. These results can be explained by assuming that the activity of the Ca2+-independent and Ca2+-dependent mechanisms of V79 cells may be differently inhibited by genes contained in EAT cells.
