The ability to quantify part dimensional quality with respect to design specifications is of fundamental importance in product design and manufacturing. Our earlier work has proposed the use of admissible transformation volume as a part dimensional quality metric. That is, part quality is quantified based on how much an as-manufactured part shape can move while still remaining within a tolerance zone. A transformation is admissible if upon such a transformation a manufactured part shape falls within the design tolerance zone. A collection of such transformations in the transformation space forms an admissible transformation volume (ATV). In this paper, we present two properties of ATV: transformation invariant and decomposability. We then describe algorithms for computing ATV and how ATV properties facilitate complex tolerance check and reveal new insight on part producibility.

Politeknik Negeri Samarinda adalah salah satu perguruan tinggi di Samarinda yang terdiri dari beberapa jurusan dan program studi. Salah satunya adalah Jurusan Desain yang terdiri dari dua program studi yaitu Desain Produk dan Arsitektur. Ke dua Program Studi tersebut masing-masing memiliki gedung perkuliahan. Karena gedung program studi Arsitektur masih baru maka dibutuhkan meja khusus Ketua Jurusan Desain di gedung tersebut. Tujuan perancangan meja kerja ini adalah untuk melengkapi kebutuhan produk mebel di ruang Ketua Jurusan yang ada di gedung Arsitektur. Desain meja kerja ini menggunakan konsep portable dan sistem lepas-pasang pada bagian-bagian tertentu yang dapat mengatasi permasalahan space ruang kantor dan pintu yang sempit, serta  mengutamakan kebutuhan pengguna dari segi fungsi dan estetikanya. Dengan metode perancangan yang dilakukan antara lain; pengumpulan data, analisa data, konsep atau spesifikasi desain, alternatif desain, pengembangan alternatif terpilih, serta desain akhir, maka didapatkan hasil akhir perancangan meja kerja dengan konsep portable bergaya desain modern sesuai kebutuhan dan keinginan pengguna. Dengan dibuatnya meja kerja yang sesuai fungsi dan estetis diharapkan dapat membantu aktivitas kantor harian untuk Ketua Jurusan Desain Politeknik Negeri Samarinda, sehingga tercipta desain yang lebih baik.  Samarinda State Polytechnic is one of the colleges in Samarinda consisting of several majors and courses, one of which is the Design Department, which consists of two courses, namely the Product Design and Architecture. Study Program Product Design and Architecture have each lecture building. Because the building Architectural studies program is still new, the need for a special desk Chairman of the Department of Design at the building. Work table design objectives are to complement the needs of furniture products in the existing Chairman of the Department of Architecture building. Another objective of this work table design that uses the concept of portable and removable systems in certain parts that can overcome the problems of space for office space and the narrow door, and prioritize the needs of users in terms of function and aesthetics. With a design method of among others; data collection, data analysis, concept or design specifications, design alternatives, the selected alternative development, as well as the final design, the final results obtained design concept portable workbench with a modern design style according to the needs and desires of the users. We make appropriate workbench and aesthetic functions are expected to help the daily office activities to the Chairman of Samarinda State Polytechnic School of Design, so as to create a better design.

Functional Concept

Cross-disciplinary technologies are noticeable phenomena in modern products, as found in renewable energy and electric vehicle industries. However, current conceptual design tools have been limited to respond these cross-disciplinary technology products. One of remarkable characteristics in this technology change is transforming an existing product with multiple cross-disciplinary technologies. This paper presents a new product design paradigm, called Transformative Product Design (TPD), to respond this phenomenon. In TPD, transformation is a design process to produce a new product (i.e., transformative product) from a base product by adding and/or converting functions/features with reference products or technologies. To accomplish the transformation process, this paper develops a new Functional Concept-based Detection method. Also, the proposed functional concept-based detection method is described with a case study in the context of transformative product design process.

The three-dimensional geometric kinematics model of the loading mechanism of back-loaded compressed dust cart is established based on the robot kinematics principle and Denavit-Hartenberg（D-H） method. In this paper, the loading mechanism's principle is discussed and it’s institutions simplified robotize model is established, coordinate transformation process and gesture of the skateboard and scraper of the loading mechanism have been studied in the D-H coordinate, has certain significance for improving the product design methods and the manufacturing quality.

This work uses an agent-based model to examine how installers of photovoltaic (PV) panels influence panel design and the success of residential solar energy. It provides a novel approach to modelling intermediary stakeholder influence on product design, focusing installer decisions instead of the typical solar stakeholder foci of the final customer (homeowners) and the designer/manufacturer. Installers restrict homeowner choice to a subset of all panel options available, and, consequentially, determine medium-term market dynamics in terms of quantity and design specifications of panel installations. This model investigates installer profit-maximization strategies of exploring new panel designs offered by manufacturers vs. exploiting market-tested technology. Manufacturer design decisions and homeowner purchase decisions are modeled. Realistic details provided from installer and homeowner interviews are included. For example, installers must estimate panel reliability instead of trusting manufacturer statistics, and homeowners make purchase decisions based in part on installer reputation. We find that installers pursue new and more-efficient panels over sticking-with market-tested technology under a variety of panel-reliability scenarios and two different state scenarios (California and Massachusetts). Results indicate that it does not matter if installers are predisposed to an exploration or exploitation strategy — both types choose to explore new panels with higher efficiency.
