Effects of physical exercise on research on the subjective sense of well-being of the elder people

The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to investigate the efficacy of an 8-week yoga-based physical exercise program to improve mental and emotional well-being and consequently reduce burnout among teachers. We considered yoga because it is a discipline that enhances body awareness and encourages the contact with nature and the respect for every form of life, with a view to a more sustainable and greener global system. We recruited 40 professional educators (40–47 years), teachers in a public high school who reported perceiving signs of stress and emotional discomfort. We randomly assigned the 40 professional educators to either an experimental yoga practice (~60 min, twice a week) group (n = 20) or a control group (n = 20) that received a nonspecific training program (~60 min, twice a week). At baseline and after training we administered the Maslach Burnout Inventory: Educators Survey (MBI-ES) and the State Mindfulness Scale (SMS) to assess teachers’ perceived level of awareness and professional burnout. We found a significant Time × Group interaction for the MBI-ES and SMS, reflecting a meaningful experimental group improvement (p < 0.001). No significant pre–post changes were found in the control group. The results suggest that an 8-week yoga practice could aid teachers to achieve a greater body and emotional awareness and prevent professional burnout.

Abstract Objectives: Lifestyle modifications for those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) may promote functional stability, lesson disease severity, and improve well-being outcomes such as quality of life. The current analysis of our larger comparative effectiveness study evaluated which specific combinations of lifestyle modifications offered as part of the Mayo Clinic Healthy Action to Benefit Independence in Thinking (HABIT) program contributed to the least functional decline in people with MCI (pwMCI) over 18 months. Methods: We undertook to compare evidence-based interventions with one another rather than to a no-treatment control group. The interventions were five behavioral treatments: computerized cognitive training (CCT), yoga, Memory Support System (MSS) training, peer support group (SG), and wellness education (WE), each delivered to both pwMCI and care partners, in a group-based program. To compare interventions, we randomly withheld one of the five HABIT® interventions in each of the group sessions. We conducted 24 group sessions with between 8 and 20 pwMCI–partner dyads in a session. Results: Withholding yoga led to the greatest declines in functional ability as measured by the Functional Activities Questionnaire and Clinical Dementia Rating. In addition, memory compensation (calendar) training and cognitive exercise appeared to have associations (moderate effect sizes) with better functional outcomes. Withholding SG or WE appeared to have little effect on functioning at 18 months. Conclusions: Overall, these results add to the growing literature that physical exercise can play a significant and lasting role in modifying outcomes in a host of medical conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases.

The article explains the origins of anxiety disorders during pregnancy, and their treatment. Pregnant women's anxiety is normally manifests itself as emotions, perceptions, and behaviors, which is mediated by biological, social, and genetic influences. Probability analysis is done of this kind. Using a survey of 1500 rural residents as a random number between 100 and 1600 produces a 200% response rate. those findings revealed that 60% of the participants had adequate reproductive age and 51% had mild to moderate anxiety, and 78.4% had high anxiety. The reasons leading to pregnant women's anxiety include their age, working status, lack of care from a boyfriend, having had previously given birth, and their wellbeing before becoming pregnant, all of the woman's family members, and maternal well-being. To resolve this is by sufficient relaxation, anti-depressants, a safe diet, and physical exercise, along with learning how to behave more positively, and by means of ourselves, or through prantal massage.

This qualitative study analyzes the effects of solitary confinement on prisoners and the strategies used by them to cope with its difficulties. The findings indicate that solitary confinement is perceived as unfair and as intensifying hostile emotions and physical aggression, and that it is related to a range of long-term physiological, mental, and behavioral disorders. Three strategies are used to cope with the difficulties of solitary confinement: keeping to a ritualistic routine, a religious lifestyle, and physical exercise. We conclude that solitary confinement exacerbates the difficulties of detention and affects prisoners’ health and well-being for short and long terms.

(1) Purpose: The purpose of our research is to understand the subjective well-being (SWB) of Chinese adult residents and its influencing factors and to identify the key groups and areas to provide a basis for the formulation of relevant policies to improve residents’ happiness. (2) Methods: In this study, we analyzed the influencing factors of SWB of individuals older than 16 years of age, according to the 2014 China Family Panel Study (CFPS). We weighted 27,706 samples in the database to achieve the purpose of representing the whole country. Finally, descriptive statistics were used for the population distribution, chi-square tests were used for univariable analysis, and binary logistic models were used for multivariable analysis. (3) Results: The response rate of SWB was 74.58%. Of the respondents, 71.2% had high SWB (7–10), with a U-shaped distribution between age and SWB. Females are more likely than males to rate themselves as happy. There is a positive ratio between years of education and SWB. Residents who have better self-evaluated income, self-rated health (SRH), psychological well-being (PWB), Body Mass Index (BMI), social trust, social relationships, and physical exercise have higher SWB. (4) Conclusion: The results of the present study indicate that to improve residents’ SWB, we should focus more attention on middle-aged and low-income groups, particularly men in agriculture. The promotion of SWB should be facilitated by improvements in residents’ education, health status, and social support as well as by the promotion of smoking bans and physical exercise.

TPS10126 Background: Fatigue is a frequent side effect with oral targeted therapies (OTT). Physical activity has been reported to improve fatigue and quality of life (QoL). However, few studies focused on metastatic cancer patients and mainly among patients treated with chemotherapy. Furthermore, recent guidelines recommend evaluation and optimization of standardized exercise programs. The aim of our study is to evaluate home-based standard physical exercise program (SPEP) for metastatic cancer patients treated with OTT. Methods: This phase II-III study will randomize (2:1) patients starting first-line OTT for metastatic cancer between an individualized SPEP supervised by a personal coach, and recommended physical exercises via a booklet. Eligible patients will have received ≤2 lines of metastatic chemotherapy, ECOG PS ≤2, controlled pain (VAS < 3/10), and life expectancy ≥3 months. The phase II part (120 patients) will evaluate the feasibility of a 3-month SPEP using the rate of patients performing ≥50% of SPEP (2-stage Fleming: one-sided α = 5%; β = 85%). An interim analysis is planned after the phase II. The phase III will compare the efficacy of an SPEP as opposed to recommendations to reduce fatigue and/or improve physical well-being (PWB) dimensions of QoL (evaluated with FACT-G and FACT-F questionnaires). To show a difference of ≥5 points in PWB and 2.5 for fatigue (α = 2.5%; β = 80%), 312 patients are required in the phase III trial. . Secondary objectives include: PFS, OS, other dimensions of QoL, tolerability and observance of OTT, change in body composition, physical benefits, and a medico-economic study. The SPEP was developed by specialized coaches involved in physical activity and cancer. The study has Ethic committee approval and accrual is planned in 18 French centers in April 2017, for 30 months. This is the first randomized trial dedicated to patients with metastatic cancer treated with OTT evaluating the feasibility and the efficacy of a well design home based SPEP on fatigue and physical well-being.
