Abstract ALUMINUM 319.0 is a general-purpose foundry alloy that is moderately responsive to heat treatment. It has excellent casting characteristics and good mechanical properties. Among its many uses are crankcases, housings, engine parts, typewriter frames and rear-axle housings. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and compressive and shear strength as well as creep and fatigue. It also includes information on low and high temperature performance as well as casting, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Al-256. Producer or source: Various aluminum companies.

During the last decades under the enthusiastic and competent guidance of Mr Chiarmetta SSM processes attained in Italy at Stampal Spa (Torino) an unquestionable high level of industrial development with the production of large numbers of high performance automotive parts, like variety of suspension support, engine suspension mounts, steering knuckle, front suspension wheel, arm and rear axle. Among the most highlighted findings SSM processes demonstrated their capability to reduce the existing gap between casting and forging, moreover during such a processes there are the opportunity to better control the defect level.Purpose of this paper is to highlight the research work and the SSM industrial production attained and developed by Mr G.L. Chiarmetta, as well as to give an overview concerning some alternative methods for the production of enhanced performance light alloys components for critical industrial applications and to present an analysis of a new rheocasting process suitable for the manufacturing of high performance industrial components.

Abstract In this paper, a robust linear steering and differential braking controller is designed for the automated guidance of tractor-semitrailer combination vehicles using the H∞ loop-shaping methodology. Only the articulation angle, the lateral errors at the front and rear axle of the tractor, and the angular velocities of the rear wheels of the trailer or the brake line pressure signals, are assumed to be available for the synthesis of control inputs. The controller is designed to ensure the robustness to model uncertainties due to variations in vehicle longitudinal speed, road adhesion coefficient and trailer cargo load. Closed-loop simulation results show the robustness of the proposed controller and the resulting smaller lateral error at the trailer end when compared to the controller using the steering input only. More damped transient responses of articulation angle when using the steering and braking control also improve the yaw stability of the trailer.
