An experiment was done to explore the effects of two virtual display systems on the accuracy of exocentric distance judgment and position. Sixteen participants viewed animated virtual targets using either a head-mounted display (HMD) or a stereoscopic widescreen display (SWD). The virtual targets have been shown, one at a time, at three depth levels and with two corresponding exocentric distances and three target sizes at each target distance and, afterward, via pointing by holding a stick to estimate the exocentric distance and position of each target. The position data were collected using an OptiTrack motion capture system. The results showed that the accuracy of exocentric distance judgment was higher with the head-mounted displays than with the stereoscopic widescreen displays. In addition, higher position accuracy in the X-direction was obtained from the stereoscopic widescreen displays, whereas no significant difference was observed in position accuracy in the Y-direction. However, it is possible that the HMD could give better accuracy in both exocentric distance and position judgments in the frontal plane, if the HMD had been perfectly mounted and flawlessly fit the participant’s eyes. The result also revealed that exocentric distance judgment was significantly higher at the farthest target distances than at the nearest distance. Similarly, the position accuracy significantly increased as exocentric distance decreased. Moreover, engineers may allude to the findings as the evidence from the study suggests that the intermediate target distances might be fitting or ideal distances to design and structure 3D applications.

According to the action-specific theory of perception, a person’s dynamic ability to act in the environment affects her/his spatial perception. Empirical evidence shows that the elderly perceive distances as farther compared with younger adults and that the harder the ground surface to walk, the farther the perceived distance. Such results suggest a general perceptual readaptation promoted by the aging process that is fine-tuned with the decline of the motor resources. However, it is still unknown whether the elderly space perception is affected by interindividual differences in their functional autonomy (FA) and whether the decline of motor resources affects spatial categorization only when distances are judged with reference to the observer’s own body or also when they are judged with reference to the body of another agent present in the scene. To this aim, a sample of elderly adults with preserved cognitive functions but different levels of FA, measured through the Instrumental Activity of Daily Living (IADL) scale, were enrolled and tested on the extrapersonal space categorization task. This task requires judging the position of a target as “Near” or “Far” with respect to different reference frames (RFs): centered on the observer’s body (Self RF) or centered on external elements, like another body (Other RF) or an object (Object RF). Results indicated that the higher the level of FA, the wider the space categorized as “Near” when adopting as reference frame our own body or the body of another agent in the scene, but not a static object. In conclusion, the individual functional autonomy of elderly individuals, which is strongly influenced by motor resources and efficiency, modulates how the surrounding space is represented, but only when the distance judgment implies an agent body, thus providing new relevant data for recent embodied cognition models of aging.

In terms of geology, most areas in south of the Gunungkidul District in Central Java consist of the Wonosari formation limestone. The land is generally very dry and source of raw water is also difficult to reach. Findings on the existence of underground river in caves, however, indicate the potential amount of water within the area, especially in the eastern part of the Gunungkidul District. Although limited information available, some fishermen have discovered that Seropan cave contains fresh water source. This cave is situated at 65 m below the cliff. Initial exploration, which done using a multichannel resistivity method, confirmed the availability of freshwater in the cave and underground river. The isopach of cave depth is found in ranges of 80 200 m below the ground surface. The water of Seropan cave can be utilized by implementing pipeline or by drilling at the suggested point based on the interpretation results, i.e. 110o2223.6388 EL 8o42.874 SL. An investigation had been done to Tetragonula (Tetragona) sp nest at Indralaya, South Sumatra to describe the Tetragonula sp nest that use streetlight pole as nest medium during April - May 2019. Purpossive sampling is used to select the target nest. Two streetlight pole found be used by Tetragonula sp as their home. The coordinate of location, heght from ground surface, diameter of streetlight pole, air temperature and humidity, and floral species around nest, were noted. Spot coordinate are S 30 14’ 19.2498’’ and E 1040 39’ 15,3288’’ ; 1,5 m above the ground surface, 12 cm diameter pole, highest air temperature was 35 o C at daylight (April and May 2019), 80 – 90 % humidity at April-May 2019; which Switenia macrophyla, Hevea brasiliensis, Zea mays, and Citrullus lanatus floral species are planted around. Air temperature in the pole is very high, around 40 0 C during daylight.

Existing methods for estimating the bending stresses of buried pipeline section based on the survey data for the depth of the axis of the pipeline from the ground surface are characterized by a large error between the real values of the bending stress and the values of the bending stress obtained from the calculation results based on the survey data. The purpose of this study is to improve the methodology for calculating the bending stresses of buried pipeline section based on the results of determining the depth of the axis of the pipeline from the ground surface, taking into account the design features of the pipeline and the used search equipment. Mathematical models are proposed that allow for the set value of the maximum error in determining bending stresses for a particular pipeline to choose the optimal measurement step before the survey, which will allow to reduce the error. Explanations are given on the choice of the maximum step of the study based on the strength characteristics of the pipeline. A calculation is provided that confirms the adequacy of the developed mathematical models and the possibility of their application in practice.
