The Slavic Homer:  From Grigorios Stavridis to Grigor PrličevIn 1860 Stavridis/Prličev’s poem Armatol unexpectedly won him the University of Athens poetry competition, which met with opposition from part of the Greek community and a smear campaign in the press. Despite his declarations of having a “Hellenic heart”, the author from Ohrid was not well received by Athenian society. He took part in the competition once more two years later, this time trying to match Homer himself and presenting an extensive though unfinished epic poem with Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg as the protagonist. The paper, which serves as an introduction to the Polish translation of Skanderbeg, contains extensive excerpts from the reports of both competition committees, chaired by Alexandros Rangavis, especially the second one, when the judges justified why they could not award Stavridis the prize despite being impressed with his poem. His disappointment at his cool reception and his failure in the competition most likely contributed to a radical change in the attitude of the Slavic Homer, who not only stopped “serving Greece” but began vigorously eliminating any Greek influences in his native Ohrid. Słowiański Homer: od Grigoriosa Stawridisa do Grigora PrličevaW 1860 r. Mimo swoich deklaracji o „helleńskości serca” autor z Ochrydy nie został dobrze przyjęty na stołecznych salonach. Dwa lata później wziął ponownie udział w konkursie, na którym przedstawił, tym razem mierząc się z samym Homerem, obszerny, lecz nieskończony epicki utwór, którego bohaterem uczynił Jerzego Kastriotę Skanderbega. Artykuł, pełniący rolę wstępu do polskiego przekładu Skanderbega, zawiera obszerne fragmenty ze sprawozdań obu komisji konkursowych pod przewodnictwem Aleksandrosa Rangawisa, zwłaszcza drugiego, w którym jurorzy uzasadniali, dlaczego mimo wrażenia, jakie na nich zrobił utwór Stawridisa, nie mogli przyznać mu nagrody. Rozczarowanie chłodnym przyjęciem i niepowodzenie w konkursie przyczyniło się zapewne do radykalnej zmiany postawy słowiańskiego Homera, który nie tylko przestał „służyć Grecji”, lecz energicznie począł zwalczać wszelkie wpływy greckie w rodzinnej Ochrydzie.

The author investigates and analyzes the state Chernivtsi National University during the Romanian period in Bukovina’s history. During that period in the field of education was held a radical change in the direction of intensive Romanization. In period of rigid occupation regime in the province, the government of Romania laid its hopes on the University. The Chernivtsi National University had become a hotbed of Romanization ideas, to ongoing training for church and state apparatus, to educate students in the spirit of devotion Romania. Nicholas Adonts (1871–1942) is one of the outstanding Armenian scholars who received an excellent education in Russia and Europe. During his studies at the University of St. Petersburg and later, when he improved his knowledge in well-known educational centers of Europe – in London, Paris, Vienna, Strasbourg and Munich, Adonts had the support of the great national benefactor Alexander Mantashiants. Eight volumes of Adonts’ works were published by Yerevan State University with the support of the Armenian branch of the Galust Gyulbenkian Foundation. Adonts left no autobiographical memories․ They would have been extremely interesting, since his life was really amazing. Tigran the Great (95–55 BC) was the most beloved historical figure of Adonts. He actually confirms that Tigran manifested himself as a world sovereign and enlightener, and his activities require new elucidation. Adonts presents the great deeds and military successes of the representatives of the princely house of Mamikonians in the Byzantine Empire. The study “The Fame of Bagratids” by Adonts is very interesting; it represents the branches of the Armenian royal house of Bagratids in Georgia, Caucasian Albania and Artsakh. In his extensive article “The Historical Basis and Ideological Value of the Novel David Bek”, the historian takes an exploratory approach while describing the historical events of the novel David Bek by Raffi. Especially rich is the heritage of the scientist in Byzantine studies, which has two branches of scientific and cognitive significance. Firstly, it presents important events of the history of Byzantium, and then the famous figures of this history, who were Armenians by nationality. In 1928 Adonts made a new discovery in Byzantine studies, exploring the “Historical basis of the Byzantine epic Digenis Acritas”. He proved that the epic poem was not Greek, since the homeland and place of activity of the main hero are the Euphrates valley, and his exploits take place in Western Armenia. Adonts was a devoted defendet of the Armenian Cause and dedicated many articles to this issue. Adonts left three monumental monographs as a legacy to science. These are: Armenia in the Era of Justinian (1908), Dionysius of Thrace and Armenian Commentators (1915) and the posthumously published Critical History of Armenia (1946). The scientific heritage of Adonts in the field of Byzantine studies and Armenology is rich with many scientific discoveries, whose value will be preserved forever.

Acting upon the recommendations of a review of information and communications technology (ICT) governance and services at USQ, a major restructure was effected merging ICT units previously scattered across the university. The new Division of ICT Services embodies both CobiT and ITIL principles. To ensure the radical change was managed professionally, a change manager was seconded to the project. The value and importance of this role was underestimated and in retrospect it was removed too early. With the new structure now in place, a single service desk has been implemented and service level agreements have been formulated. This chapter describes the new reporting structure of the Division of ICT Services, the internal structure, the goals of the Division and how they align with the USQ corporate goals. Care was taken to ensure that the new ICT structure was logical and conducive to operational effectiveness, efficiency and sound ICT governance. The new structure provides pathways and opportunities for career progression, reflects a client focus and provides role delineation and functional accountability.
