As an investigation into the dramaturgy of algorithms themselves, “algorithmic theatre” conveys a different relationship to digital technologies than typical multimedia performance: the ways algorithms order the world, the particular kinds of meanings they make, the types of narrative structures they imply. The primary collaborators on Annie Dorsen’s A Piece of Work (2013) participated in a group self-interview on the day of the final performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

In this review article on identity, language learning, and social change, we argue that contemporary poststructuralist theories of language, identity, and power offer new perspectives on language learning and teaching, and have been of considerable interest in our field. We first review poststructuralist theories of language, subjectivity, and positioning and explain sociocultural theories of language learning. We then discuss constructs ofinvestmentandimagined communities/imagined identities(Norton Peirce 1995; Norton 1997, 2000, 2001), showing how these have been used by diverse identity researchers. Illustrative examples of studies that investigate how identity categories like race, gender, and sexuality interact with language learning are discussed. Common qualitative research methods used in studies of identity and language learning are presented, and we review the research on identity and language teaching in different regions of the world. We examine how digital technologies may be affecting language learners' identities, and how learner resistance impacts language learning. Recent critiques of research on identity and language learning are explored, and we consider directions for research in an era of increasing globalization. We anticipate that the identities and investments of language learners, as well as their teachers, will continue to generate exciting and innovative research in the future.

This book documents the rise of digital repression—how governments are deploying new technologies to counter dissent, maintain political control, and ensure regime survival. The emergence of varied digital technologies is bringing new dimensions to political repression. At its core, the expanding use of digital repression reflects a fairly simple motivation: states are seeking and finding new ways to control, manipulate, surveil, or disrupt real or perceived threats. This book investigates the goals, motivations, and drivers of digital repression. It presents case studies in Thailand, the Philippines, and Ethiopia, highlighting how governments pursue digital strategies based on a range of factors: ongoing levels of repression, leadership, state capacity, and technological development. But a basic political motive—how to preserve and sustain political incumbency—remains a principal explanation for their use. The international community is already seeing glimpses of what the frontiers of repression look like, such as in China, where authorities have brought together mass surveillance, online censorship, DNA collection, and artificial intelligence to enforce their rule in Xinjiang. Many of these trends are going global. This has major implications for democratic governments and civil society activists around the world. The book also presents innovative ideas and strategies for civil society and opposition movements to respond to the digital autocratic wave.

Digital technologies, ubiquitous in our daily life, have radically changed the way we work, communicate, and consume in a short period of time. They affect all components of quality of life: well-being, work, health, education, social connections, environmental quality, the ability to participate and govern civil society, and so on. Digital transformation creates both opportunities and serious risks to the well-being of people. Researchers and statistical agencies around the world are facing a major challenge to develop new tools to analyze the impact of digital transformation on the well-being of the population. The risks are very diverse in nature and it is very difficult to identify the key factor. All researchers conclude that secure digital technologies significantly improve the lives of those who have the skills to use them and pose a serious risk of inequality for society, as they introduce a digital divide between those who have the skills to use them and those who do not. In the article, the author examines the risks created by digital technologies for some components of the quality of life (digital component of the quality of life), which are six main components: the digital quality of the population, providing the population with digital benefits, the labor market in the digital economy, the impact of digitalization on the social sphere, state electronic services for the population and the security of information activities. The study was carried out on the basis of the available statistical base and the results of research by scientists from different countries of the world. The risks of the digital economy cannot be ignored when pursuing state social policy. Attention is paid to government regulation aimed at reducing the negative consequences of digitalization through the prism of national, federal projects and other events.

This article explores the material and digital culture of warfarin, one of the most commonly prescribed medications in the world. The author uses the drug’s 60-year history to describe its materiality and use, showing how and why it has become an informed material. Three ethnographic cases then show where warfarin has produced and is now reproduced by three types of information: NHS Trust guidelines, genetic codes and the INR (International Normalized Ratio). When a drug becomes so entangled with informational and digital technologies, it becomes reliant on them for its proper and safe use; it can no longer be just an informed material but is a digitally informed one.

Connected and collaborative learning that leads to co-creation of ideas and solutions is imperative across all levels of education. To make the shift we want to see, we need to understand the pedagogy of online learning in a global context. This commentary shares an understanding of thought leaders who have developed and shared new approaches that take learning beyond the immediate environment sca olded by digital technologies. It also poses the question, "What if we collaborated as a global community?" and starts a conversation about new pedagogical approaches to support " at," connected learning. This is already happening now—the future is now— it’s time to connect the world.

В статье рассматривается методика применения технологий предметно-языкового интегративного обучения в русских школах за рубежом. Рассматривается и анализируется опыт интеграции предметных областей «Русский язык» и «Окружающий мир». Описываются практический опыт занятий по русскому языку с использованием образовательной платформы в русской школе «Николай Гоголь» в Италии и примеры практической методики обучения фонетике, грамматике, лексике, видам речевой дея-тельности. Выявлены преимущества и недостатки применения цифровых технологий для обучения русскому языку и на русском языке. The article discusses the methodology of applying technologies of subject-language integrative teaching in Russian schools abroad. The experience of integration of the subject areas «Russian language» and «The world around us» is considered and analyzed. The practical experience of classes in the Russian language using the educational platform at the Russian school «Nikolai Gogol» in Italy is described, examples of practical methods of teaching phonetics, grammar, vocabulary, communicative skills activity are described. The advantages and disadvantages of using digital technologies for teaching the Russian language and in Russian are revealed.

Advanced digital technology is rapidly changing the world, as well as transforming the dental profession. The adoption of digital technologies in dental offices allied with efficient processes and accurate high-strength materials are replacing conventional aligners workflows to improve overall patients’ experiences and outcomes. Various digital devices such as 3D printers, intraoral and face scanners, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), software for computer 3D ortho setup, and 3D printing provide new potential alternatives to replace the traditional outsourced workflow for aligners. With this new technology, the entire process for bringing clear aligner production in-office can significantly reduce laboratory bills and increase patient case acceptance to provide high-quality and customized aligner therapy.

The article defines international advertising as a process of communication and sales organization in foreign markets. The reasons for the intensive development of modern international advertising, including increased production and globalization of markets, reduced costs for packaging and labeling caused by standard approaches, the emergence of a global consumer segment, interpenetration of different cultures, introduction of common cultural standards, accelerated development of global media. The characteristics of evolutionary models of the advertising market are given. The advertising market is defined as a target market of marketing communications, which develops independently, with a system of economic relations between the participants of advertising activity and target consumers and functions in constant connection with the tendencies of the commodity market. It was found that the advertising market is developing in almost all directions, and new types of advertising (Internet, online technology) are characterized by a sharp rise in advertising, which led to the creation of a new type of advertising market - integrated or global advertising space. The modern tendencies of development of the world advertising market are analyzed, the structure of expenses for advertising all over the world is resulted. The strategic directions of development of advertising activity of the leading advertisers in the world market are analyzed.
