Background: In response to tissue damage, angiogenesis is an extremely dynamic process that is finely regulated by signals from cells, the surrounding extracellular matrix (ECM), and derived mediators. As the only process, angiogenesis remains of decisive importance in the context of the entire wound healing process and is subject to constant change. The dissolution of the endothelial basement membrane, the migration of endothelial cells, and the development of new capillary vessels during wound healing depend not only on the cells and cytokines present, but also on the production and organization of ECM components in the immediate wound. Summary: Angiogenesis in wound healing can be divided into two main phases. During the pro-angiogenic phase at the beginning of wound healing, excessive neo-formation of blood vessels, some of which are poorly differentiated, occurs, which restore blood flow and thus nutritive perfusion as quickly as possible. This is followed by an anti-angiogenic phase in which the initially established vascular network undergoes a maturing process, which, however, is accompanied by a significant reduction in the number of vessels. Key Messages: Although many mechanisms and specific cell functions in wound healing have already been described, many underlying pathophysiological processes remain unknown. Because angiogenesis and its maturation is a very fast but also very long-lasting process, the understanding of the underlying mechanisms is of crucial importance. This article will give an overview of the current understanding and controversy in this sub-step of wound healing.

Genus Tinospora has been used in traditional medicine throughout various parts of Asia, particularly in India, China, Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia. Its ethnomedicinal uses include treatment for fever, cold, oral ulcer, headaches, diarrhoea, diabetes, digestive disorder and rheumatoid arthritis. Some of its ethnomedicinal uses have been justified via scientific studies, include antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. Recently, several studies have been initiated to investigate the role of Tinospora species in wound healing. This comprehensive review used updated information obtained from systematic literature search using PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct and Google Scholar, to assess the wound healing properties of eleven major Tinospora species namely, T. cordifolia, T. crispa, T. sagittata, T. sinensis, T. bakis, T. craveniana, T. tuberculata, T. capillipes, T. rumphii, T. smilacina, and T. baenzigeri. The information obtained revealed that only T. cordifolia and T. crispa have been reported on its wound-healing abilities. Studies demonstrated that T. cordifolia is associated with early re-epithelisation, enhanced tensile strength, increased granulation tissues and increased collagen contents. Whereas T. crispa is reported with wound healing activity through the elevated antioxidant enzymes and inflammation phase. Nevertheless, there is limited evidence on phytochemical constituents from plant extracts that contribute to the wound healing process and their underlying mechanisms. This review deduced the potential gaps for future research aiming to study the genus Tinospora as a potential wound healing agent.

The development of asymmetric membranes—i.e., matching two fibrous layers with selected composition and morphological properties to mimic both the epidermis and dermis—currently represents one of the most promising strategies to support skin regeneration during the wound healing process. Herein, a new asymmetric platform fabricated by a sequential electrospinning process was investigated. The top layer comprises cross-linked polyvinylalcohol (PVA) nanofibers (NFs)—from water solution—to replicate the epidermis’s chemical stability and wettability features. Otherwise, the bottom layer is fabricated by integrating PVA with wool-keratin extracted via sulfitolysis. This protein is a biocompatibility polymer with excellent properties for dermis-like structures. Morphological characterization via SEM supported by image analysis showed that the asymmetric membrane exhibited average fiber size—max frequency diameter 450 nm, range 1.40 μm—and porosity suitable for the healing process. FTIR-spectrums confirmed the presence of keratin in the bottom layer and variations of keratin-secondary structures. Compared with pure PVA-NFs, keratin/PVA-NFs showed a significant improvement in cell adhesion in in vitro tests. In perspective, these asymmetric membranes could be promisingly used to confine active species (i.e., antioxidants, antimicrobials) to the bottom layer to support specific cell activities (i.e., proliferation, differentiation) in wound healing applications.

Background: The integrity of healthy skin plays a crucial role in maintaining physiological homeostasis of the human body. The skin is the largest organ system of the body. As such, it plays pivotal roles in the protection against mechanical forces and infections, fluid imbalance, and thermal dysregulation. At the same time, it allows for flexibility to enable joint function in some areas of the body and more rigid fixation to hinder shifting of the palm or foot sole. Many instances lead to inadequate wound healing which necessitates medical intervention. Chronic conditions such as diabetes mellitus or peripheral vascular disease can lead to impaired wound healing. Acute trauma such as degloving or large-scale thermal injuries are followed by a loss of skin organ function rendering the organism vulnerable to infections, thermal dysregulation, and fluid loss. Methods: For this update article, we have reviewed the actual literature on skin wound healing purposes focusing on the main phases of wound healing, i.e., inflammation, proliferation, epithelialization, angiogenesis, remodeling, and scarring. Results: The reader will get briefed on new insights and up-to-date concepts in skin wound healing. The macrophage as a key player in the inflammatory phase will be highlighted. During the epithelialization process, we will present the different concepts of how the wound will get closed, e.g., leapfrogging, lamellipodial crawling, shuffling, and the stem cell niche. The neovascularization represents an essential component in wound healing due to its fundamental impact from the very beginning after skin injury until the end of the wound remodeling. Here, the distinct pattern of the neovascularization process and the special new functions of the pericyte will be underscored. At the end, this update will present 3 topics of high interest in skin wound healing issues, dealing with scarring, tissue engineering, and plasma application. Conclusion: Although wound healing mechanisms and specific cell functions in wound repair have been delineated in part, many underlying pathophysiological processes are still unknown. The purpose of the following update on skin wound healing is to focus on the different phases and to brief the reader on the current knowledge and new insights. Skin wound healing is a complex process, which is dependent on many cell types and mediators interacting in a highly sophisticated temporal sequence. Although some interactions during the healing process are crucial, redundancy is high and other cells or mediators can adopt functions or signaling without major complications.

Abstract In vitro wound healing assays are a suitable application to verify the efficiency of pharmaceuticals or growth factors that will be incorporated in or immobilized to e.g. electrospun biomaterials for wound dressings or other biological devices in advance. Thereby, various factors like culture conditions or cell density influence the specific cell proliferation. Hence, to establish a wound healing assay for various cell types, a stepwise adaptation of cell numbers was done for better estimation and comparison of cell density for the validation of the influence of drugs on the wound healing process. Cell proliferation of different tissue relevant cell types was evaluated by impedance measurements and live cell imaging. Cell numbers could be successfully adapted for assay specific cell densities. In general, a universal comparison of biological or chemical materials and agents in vitro may require the creation of appropriate ISO or OECD standards for a consistent and cell specific adaptation or demand of initial cell density.

Endogenous electric field is known to play important roles in the wound-healing process, mainly through its effects on protein synthesis and cell migration. Many clinical studies have demonstrated that electrical stimulation (ES) with steady direct currents is beneficial to accelerating wound-healing, even though the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In the present study, a three-dimensional finite element wound model was built to optimize the electrode configuration in ES. Four layers of the skin, stratum corneum, epidermis, dermis, and subcutis, with defined thickness and electrical properties were modeled. The main goal was to evaluate the distributions of exogenous electric fields delivered with direct current (DC) stimulation using different electrode configurations such as sizes and positions. Based on the results, some guidelines were obtained in designing the electrode configuration for applications of clinical ES.

Early mobilization includes factors that can affect the process of wound healing after surgery. Immediate mobilization in stages is very useful for the process of healing wounds and preventing infection and venous thrombosis. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between early mobilization and the process of healing wound post operative sectio caesarea at Sinar Husni General Hospital Medan Helvetia. The research design used was analytic survey with cross sectional approach. The sample in this study used the Consecutive Sampling method of data collection using a checklist sheet conducted on a sample of 19 respondents. The results of the study in this study are the majority of respondents who did early mobilization and who experienced rapid wound healing process as many as 4 people (21%) while the minority of respondents who did early mobilization and who experienced slow wound healing process were 1 person (5.3%). The majority of respondents who did not mobilize early and who experienced a slow wound healing process were 11 people (57.9%) and a minority who did not mobilize early and who experienced rapid healing as many as 4 people (21.1%). Statistical test results obtained p value = 0.046 <0.005. The conclusions of the results of this study indicate there is a relationship between early mobilization and the process of healing post operative sectio of caesarea. Suggestions The results of this study can be applied as a reference to improve nursing care services, especially in providing counseling and assistance to patients.

At present, the incidence of injuries in Indonesia is quite high, as seen from data on traffic accidents in the general public. There are several factors that affect wound healing, one of which is nutritional status. Based on the preliminary data retrieval conducted by researchers in the seruni surgery room in the last 1 month namely in March, it was found that the number of wounded patients was 109 patients, where the number of men was 78 (71.56%) while the number of women was 31 ( 28.44%) The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between nutritional status and the wound healing process in RSUD. H. Andi. Sulthan Daeng Radja Kab. Bulukumba. This research uses the type of design of this research is quantitative research. This type of research uses analytic observational research with cross sectional approach. The sample of this study were 41 respondents taken by purposive sampling method. Data analysis in this study used the chi-square test (chi square test). The results of the analysis used the chi-square statistical test with a confidence level (α = 0.05). Based on the results of this test, the p value is 0.001, thus p <α (0.001 <0.05), then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between nutritional status and the process of wound healing in RSUD. H. Andi. Sulthan Daeng Radja Kab. Bulukumba. Researchers suggest that this study be used as a material consideration in the fulfillment of nutrition in wound care patients in RSUD.H.A. Sulthan Daeng Radja Kab. Bulukumba and this research can be continued by conducting research related to the wound healing process and linking it with other variables.

A wound refers to the epithelial loss, accompanied by loss of muscle fibers collagen, nerves and bone instigated by surgery, trauma, frictions or by heat. Process of wound healing is a compounded activity of recovering the functional integrity of the damaged tissues. This process is mediated by various cytokines and growth factors usually liberated at the wound site. A plethora of herbal and synthetic drugs, as well as photodynamic therapy, is available to facilitate the process of wound healing. Generally, the systems used for the management of wounds tend to act through covering the ruptured site, reduce pain, inflammation, and prevent the invasion and growth of microorganisms. The available systems are, though, enough to meet these requirements, but the involvement of nanotechnology can ameliorate the performance of these protective coverings. In recent years, nano-based formulations have gained immense popularity among researchers for the wound healing process due to the enhanced benefits they offer over the conventional preparations. Hereupon, this review aims to cover the entire roadmap of wound healing, beginning from the molecular factors involved in the process, the various synthetic and herbal agents, and combination therapy available for the treatment and the current nano-based systems available for delivery through the topical route for wound healing.

Wound healing has been the burning problem in a surgical practice because of a remarkable increase in the number of traumatic cases. A wound causes a number of changes in the body that can affect the healing process, including changes in energy, protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamin and mineral metabolism. Various Ayurveda literatures, particularly, Sushruta Samhita, which is said to be an ancient textbook of surgery in Ayurveda, has mentioned about the diet for the person suffering from the wound, and the author said that diet plays a very important role in the wound healing process. Sushruta - The father of surgery has scientifically classified it in a systemic manner, whose wealth of clinical material and the principles of management are valid even today. Shalya Tantra (surgical branch in Ayurveda Science) is one of the important branch of Ayurveda, in which surgical and para-surgical techniques has described for management of various diseases. Vrana is the most important and widely described chapter of Shalya Tantra. Vrana (wound) is one of them, which have been managed by human being from starting of civilization. Under the circumstances, the first thing which the men came across was the injury from different sources which caused him the Vrana. Vrana is seen as debilitating and scaring disorder, usually seen affecting the human being at any age. Well balanced nutrition plays an essential role in the wound healing.

<p align="center"><strong>A</strong><strong>BSTRAK</strong><strong></strong></p><p align="center"> </p><p>Salah satu tujuan pembangunan era <em>Millenium Development goals (MDG’s)</em> 2015 adalah perbaikan kesehatan maternal. Salah satu cara di dalam persalinan atau mengeluarkan bayi secara patologis yaitu dengan sectio caesarea. Menurut  statistik 3.509 kasus sectio caesarea, indikasi terbanyak adalah disproporsi cephalo pelvik (21%), sedangkan indikasi lain adalah gawat janin (14%), plasenta previa (11%), pernah sectio caesarea (11%), incoordinate uterine action (9%), preeklamsi dan hipertensi (7%). Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian <em>Quasy Experiment</em> dengan <em>post test only with control.</em> Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa umumnya responden memiliki umur tidak berisiko terhadap tindakan operasi yati sebanyak 15 orang (75%), sebagian responden pertama kali dilakukan operasi caesarea yaitu sebanyak 10 orang (50,0%), sebagian responden mengalami penyembuhan luka yang normal yaitu sebanyak 13 orang (65,0%), dan sebagian responden responden melakukan mobilisasi dini yaitu sebanyak 14  orang (70,0%). Secara statistik terdapat pengaruh mobilisasi dini terhadap penyembuhan luka post sectio caesarea di RSUD Arifin Achmad Pekanbaru (p value = 0.007). There is a statistically significant relationship between early mobilization on wound healing post sectio caesarea (p value = 0.007). Suggested for respnden can increase awareness in improving health status through early mobilization exercises to accelerate the wound healing process as a result of the operation.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><em>Keywords: sectio caesarea, mobilization, wound healing</em>
