Using the NS2 network simulation tool to teach the “wireless network” course can enhance students’ understanding of wireless network protocols through visualization and can also improve students’ ability to analyze problems hands on. We built a multimedia wireless network modularized English teaching platform based on NS2 simulation software; made full use of the rich components and network resources provided by NS2 to achieve a high degree of code reuse and reduce the time for developing simulation codes; designed the overall framework of this multimedia wireless network modular English teaching platform based on the B/S structure; and solved the weight coefficient and importance value of the learning input evaluation index, based on the feedback elite teaching optimization algorithm, the improved teaching formula, the increase in the number of exchanges, and the improvement in the learner’s performance. The experimental results show that the LEACH and LEACH-C protocols of the clustered NS2 simulation software have more surviving nodes most of the time, which indicates that the clustering routing protocol has better performance.

The online teaching platform is a major application of information-based educa-tion. If adopted for foreign language teaching, the platform can greatly facilitate the utilization of network resources and enhance the students’ abilities in listen-ing, speaking, reading and writing. This paper develops an information-based online foreign language teaching platform with the aid of ASP.NET. The SQL was selected as the backend database and accessed via ADO.NET. Taking the browser/server (B/S) structure was adopted as the network architecture, the plat-form was programmed in C# and realized using Microsoft Visual Studio (VS) 2005. Through testing, the proposed platform was proved to achieve all expected functions and satisfy the demand of college English teaching in a safe and stable manner. The research findings promote the quality and informatization of English teaching.

Escalation of Internet-of-Thing (IoT) may cause internet users being exposed to IPv6 security issues. End-to-end connection feature in IPv6 can be misused by attackers to flood targeted host. Using User Datagram Protocol (UDP), attackers can certainly congest the network by injecting UDP packets during network communication. This will introduce risk if there is no precaution step taken. Enhanced risk assessment equation can be adopted to mitigate the perils. Thus, this paper presents the use of enhanced risk assessment equation to identify risk value that is caused by UDP flooding attack. The attack was simulated using OMNeT++ simulation software. The inputs that were considered in the enhanced equation are based on the features of the tested network scenarios. The obtained risk value can be used in determining appropriate mitigation techniques that help the organization in maintaining and strengthening their network. It also offers organization to secure their network resources and assets. Furthermore, this paper also reveals that the enhanced risk assessment equation is flexible to be used in any situation. Hereafter, more IPv6 based protocols will be tested to measure the capability of using the enhanced equation.

In order to adapt to the needs of the rapid development of social networks, how to effectively improve college students’ English comprehensive application ability, and rapidly improve listening and speaking skills has become an important research goal of college English teaching. This paper describes the main problems to be solved, and makes full use of the network and multimedia technology to build an open, interactive network English teaching platform. The platform provides students with abundant videos, images, voices, texts and other resources, so that the students can get help from teachers and other partners to improve their English ability.

Current microcomputer protection experimental system is created based on LabVIEW. Each module was created based on the modular thinking (data acquisition module, start module, algorithm module). Functions of microcomputer protection were implemented. Fault data was generated by fault simulation software MATLAB. LabVIEW controls and loop structure achieved simulating a variety of action logical relationship of computer protection. This system had many advantages, such as visibility, controllability, authenticity and flexibility. The system was able to verify the performance of computer protection at different fault. The system was also able to analyze the situation of computer protection maloperation and misoperation, thus it further provided teaching platform for the three section current microcomputer protection experiment.

To extend a broad application of blockchain technology to the fields of online English education, this paper aims to improve a virtual platform for English teaching and learning of landscape design majors, mainly composed of presentation layer, business layer, and data layer by analyzing the performance of the proposed algorithm, and comparing with other existing algorithms. In the platform, through the service layer, the communication between the presentation layer and the data layer is completed, and the data in the data layer is transferred to the presentation layer. The user first establishes a connection with the server in the presentation layer. Using the transmitted data information, the server assigns an identifier to the user and establishes a role model. Users can download the teaching courseware through the server and simulate the real learning scene by controlling the interaction of XAML files. The results show that the virtual teaching platform makes the interconnection of users (students and teachers), machines, and things at any time and any place; realizes information self-verification, transmission, deep unsupervised learning, and management; and gives students a more realistic visual experience in high security.

PurposeThis paper addresses the geographical dimension of cross-border knowledge integration, expressed as the co-invention of patent filings and investigates the siting of patenting activities by major US corporations in China. Most importantly, the study looks into the patterns of international co-invention or the links of these locations to headquarters and other company subsidiaries.Design/methodology/approachThe study explores the cases of six US multinationals that file international patent applications in China. The applications were analyzed based on the composition of invention teams and the locations of inventors.FindingsThe co-invented patent filings by US multinational enterprises (MNEs) in China demonstrate a high degree of US–Chinese subsidiary collaboration. Links with other subsidiaries are marginal, and at the same time, high levels of sole patenting by inventors in China point to competence-creating research and development (R&D) activities taking place.Practical implicationsThe lack of subsidiary-subsidiary collaboration, especially subsidiaries in other emerging markets, indicates a less diversified strategy of leveraging internal networks of knowledge. This also implies that Chinese subsidiaries still lack attractiveness as partners in subsidiary-subsidiary co-invention. Only two companies in our sample, Procter & Gamble and Intel, demonstrate a highly diversified, integrated and transnational pattern of innovation management.Originality/valueThe paper contributes to the contextual understanding of the rich landscape of R&D activities of major US MNEs in China. By exploring these cases, the paper identifies a number of trends. First, the R&D activities in this sample are highly concentrated in technological clusters located in Beijing and Shanghai. Technological clustering is an important advantage of the innovation landscape in emerging markets. Second, the paper underscores the importance of differentiating between different types of co-invention. The patent applications in this sample tend to unite inventors mostly from the US and China, and so multi-country applications involving subsidiaries in other countries are rare. Thus, the level of integration outside the center-host bandwidth is low. However, Chinese subsidiaries demonstrate high levels of autonomy by filing single-country applications, which implies that they are building their own research identity.

Realizing the importance of Panchase Protected Forest, an important corridor of the Chitwan-Annapurna Landscape (CHAL) area, the ecological status and peoples’ perception of mistletoe was studied to supplement the information on mistletoes of Nepal Himalayas. Mistletoes were studied along the forest trails and data were collected within 10 m radius plots 20 m inside the trails to record the incidence of mistletoe occurrence and severity of infection during three field visits in 1917 and 1918. Fifty people were interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire and Biodiversity Conservation Confidence Index was calculated to understand peoples' perceptions about mistletoes. A total of seven mistletoe species, six belonging to four genera in the family Loranthaceae, and a single genus in the family Viscaceae were documented from 27 host species belonging to 24 genera in 18 unrelated angiosperm host families. Loranthaceae mistletoes were more generalists having a wide host range while Viscaceae mistletoe showed a high degree of host specificity. The irregular and patchy distribution of mistletoe is governed by host availability, forest structure, and site mesoclimate. Knowledge regarding the importance and uses of mistletoes and its values in natural plant communities is limited to older generation people. Age groups, profession, and the mechanism of indigenous knowledge inheritance in the rural mountainous communities of the Panchase area are very poor and are eroding rapidly which is against promoting the indigenous knowledge system especially in the younger generation. More conservation initiatives are needed through the stakeholder involvement to protect the rich biodiversity of the area.
