Section flattening often occurs in the hot bending process of magnesium alloy tube with large curvature. In order to control the forming quality of the tube, it is necessary to measure the section profile of the magnesium alloy pipe online. In this paper, the laser vision system is used to measure the profile of magnesium alloy tube. Due to the influence of the environment and the surface quality of the pipe, there are obviously isolated outliers in the profile data, which seriously affects the accuracy and precision of the tube measurement. An outlier identification algorithm based on robust locally weighted regression and PaйTa criterion is proposed. This algorithm is used to identify the typically isolated outliers in the measurement process and discuss its identification ability. Meanwhile, it is compared with the moving mean identifier and the Hampel identifier. Subsequently, the ellipse fitting of profile data was carried out, and the fitting ellipse parameters and fitting precision of the curved section were obtained. At the same time, the fitting results were compared before and after the outliers are eliminated. The experiment proves that the outlier identification method based on robust locally weighted regression and PaйTa criterion can effectively identify outliers in profile data, especially for spot outliers. This algorithm is a robust, accurate, and efficient outlier identification method, which can effectively improve the laser profile measurement accuracy of the pipe section and has great significance for the quality control of magnesium alloy tube.

In this study a cyclic rotating bending process for microstructure control of metal tubes was newly proposed. The AZ31 magnesium alloy tube was conducted to investigate the effect of the rotating bending process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of metal tubes. The rotating bending process was carried out with rotation speed of 20r/min for 10min at the temperature of 150, 200, 250, 300 and 350°C. The rotating bending processes carried out with various conditions show that the grains in cross-section and longitudinal section of magnesium alloy tube were refined for all samples by the rotating bending process with rotation speed of 20r/min for different rotation numbers and temperatures. The rotating bending temperature shows a various effects on the mechanical properties. When the temperature was 200°C, the highest strength as well as ductility was obtained.

In recent years, due to its low density and high strength/weight ratio, magnesium alloy wires has been considered for application in many fields, such as welding, electronics, medical field (for production of stents). But for those purposes, we need to acquire wires with high strength and ductility. For that we purpose we proposed alternate drawing method, which is supposed to highly decrease the shearing strain near the surface of the wire after drawing, by changing the direction of the wire drawing with each pass and thus acquiring high ductility wires. We have done research on the cold alternate drawing of magnesium alloy wires, by conducting wire drawing of several magnesium wires and testing their strength, hardness, structure, surface and also finite element analysis, we have proven the increase of ductility at the expense of some strength. In this research we are looking to further improve the quality of the drawn wires by examining the benefits of using diamond dies over tungsten carbine dies. Using the alternate drawing method reduces the strength of the drawn wires and thus lowering their drawing limit. By using diamond dies we are aiming to decrease the drawing stress and further increase the drawing limit of the alternate drawn wires and also improve the quality of the finishing surface of the wires. With this in mind we are aiming to produce a good quality wire with low diameter, high ductility, high strength and fine wire surface.

In this work, we reported the high ductility of an extruded AZ61 magnesium alloy tube achieved by electropulsing current-assisted tension. The elongation of the alloy reached up to about 45%, which is largely superior to the majority of AZ61 wrought Mg alloys. We found that the hardening capacity of the alloy seemed to slightly increase as the electropulsing frequency increased. Furthermore, electropulsing can arouse the serrated flow phenomenon. Here we proposed an equation describing the correlation between the average amplitude and frequency: Aa = C − 6 × 10−3f, where Aa is the average amplitude, f is the frequency, and C is the constant. In addition, introducing electropulsing current pronouncedly reduced the tendency of twinning, but the twinning fraction seemed to fail depending on the electropulsing frequency. Based on microstructure analysis, we concluded that the outstanding ductility of the studied alloy was mainly due to the combined role of the thermal effects from Joule heating, the athermal effects from electron wind, and the magnetic effects from the electropulsing current. The serrated flow phenomenon occurred along stress–strain curves after electropulsing treatment, and the underlying reasons also were uncovered.

Vacuum diffusion bonding of as-extruded AZ61 magnesium alloy was investigated according to atomic diffusion theory. The effects of the diffusion temperature and holding time on the quality of the bonding joint are investigated by means of microstructure analysis, shearing strength test and microhardness testing. The shearing test results showed that the maximum shearing strength reached 51.95MPa with the temperature of 470°C and the holding time of 90min. And the diffusion temperature and holding time have a great effect on the quality of the bonding joints. The microhardness measurement results showed that the microhardness value at the bonding joint was maximum.

Within the scope of high speed milling process parameters, analyzed and discussed the effects of spindle speed, feed rate, milling depth and milling width on milling forces in the process of high speed milling of AM50A magnesium alloy. At the same time, the influence of milling parameters on the surface roughness of AM50A magnesium alloy has been revealed by means of the measurement of surface roughness and surface micro topography. High speed milling experiments of AM50A magnesium alloy were carried out by factorial design. Form the analysis of experimental results, The milling parameters, which have significant influence on milling force in high speed milling of AM50A magnesium alloy, are milling depth, milling width and feed speed, and the nonlinear characteristics of milling force and milling parameters. The milling force decreases with the increase of spindle in the given mill parameters. For the effects of milling parameters on surface quality of the performance, in the milling depth and feeding speed under certain conditions with the spindle speed increases the surface quality of AM50A magnesium alloy becomes better with the feed speed increases the surface quality becomes poor. When the spindle speed is greater than 12000r/min, the milling depth is less than 0.2mm, and the feed speed is less than 400mm/min, the milling surface quality can be obtained easily.

Abstract. We discuss the quality of the two available SCIAMACHY limb ozone profile products. They were retrieved with the University of Bremen IFE's algorithm version 1.61 (hereafter IFE), and the official ESA offline algorithm (hereafter OL) versions 2.4 and 2.5. The ozone profiles were compared to a suite of correlative measurements from ground-based lidar and microwave, sondes, SAGE II and SAGE III (Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment). To correct for the expected Envisat pointing errors, which have not been corrected implicitly in either of the algorithms, we applied a constant altitude shift of −1.5 km to the SCIAMACHY ozone profiles. The IFE ozone profile data between 16 and 40 km are biased low by 3–6%. The average difference profiles show a characteristic zigzag shape with a wavelength of approximately 8 km. The standard deviation of the differences is typically 10% between 20 and 35 km. We show that more than 20% of the SCIAMACHY official ESA offline (OL) ozone profiles version 2.4 and 2.5 have unrealistic ozone values, most of these are north of 15° S. The remaining OL profiles compare well to correlative instruments above 24 km. Between 20 and 24 km, they underestimate ozone by 15±5%.
