This study takes an intuitive step to develop the user-convenient smart vehicle parking system (SVPS), a smart system able to manage the massive crowd of vehicles during parking searching and do the better jobs of parking reservation and management, with the shorter-path processing tactics. For that, this study inclusively employed the mapping strategy, where the system parking points are prevalent, to assist the users to get the parking information fast and conveniently. This study is comprised of the several parking points systematically spread over the several locations and traceable over the available graphical map, and the overall information is easily accessible using smart devices. For parking information, a smart web application which is another important module of this study is designed, with which the SVPS system’s registered users are able to access all the services provided for smart vehicle parking searching and reservation in efficient and reliable ways. An integrated network approach, RFID (radio frequency identification) and wireless sensors network (WSN), called RF-WSN, is employed to retrieve the real-time information from the installed and configured sensor devices in RFID-WSN network.

Lecturer attendance record is required by the university to know the presence of lecturers in teaching in class. In general condition, lecturer attendance is recorded on the attendance sheet, or input to web application accessed on a class computer. However, there are some problems in its implementation so that at the end, lecturer presence is carried out using a manual form where the academic staff needs to re-enter the lecturer attendance data into the applications. Based on the above, the authors designed and developed a lecturer attendance information system to record lecturers' attendance using radio frequency identification technology by implementing a near field communication card (NFC Card). The device used to record and read presence data during lectures, by tapping an Mi-fare NFC card to an NFC reader / writer device. The flow of this research method begins with a literature study of NFC card, observe the flow of lecture attendance process and data recorded into lecturer attendance sheet, analyzing the database design, the system design which has compatible with NFC reader and writer devices, designed system interface and continue to develop system. The result is system consists of master data, system attendance, verification and reporting module. The results show that NFC card implementation is more practical for lecturers in conducting lecture attendance and NFC card could be tapped out into an NFC device at a maximum distance up to 7 cm with the reading angle relative to NFC reader/writer with range 00 until 300 can read NFC Card.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to comprehensively examine the factors that influence the adoption of radio frequency identification (RFID) in the logistics industry in Taiwan, and to objectively identify the key factors (KFs) for successful adoption. Design/methodology/approach – First, the factors were collected from a review of the literature, and then arranged in a three-layer hierarchical table. The fuzzy analytic hierarchical process (FAHP) was then used to determine the weighting of each factor, based on the opinions of various logistics professionals. The acceptable advantage concept of VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) was then used to identify the KFs. Findings – Nine important factors were identified from the total of eighteen factors, with a total accumulative weight of 64.68 percent, and from these, four KFs were determined: meeting the demands of clients, sharing real-time information, creating advantages in overall delivery, and reducing operational errors. Practical implications – The results show that the logistics industry in Taiwan should focus on the improvement of four KFs when adopting RFID. Eight practical implications of this study are also discussed in the paper. Originality/value – This study used multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) tools to obtain the importance (weighting) of each factor and to identify the KFs that influence the adoption of RFID. The research results can serve as a reference for the logistics industry, enabling firms to better allocate their resources when adopting RFID, and thus, to achieve a good outcome at lower cost and with greater efficiency.

A third of the food produced in the world ends up in the rubbish, enough to put an end to world hunger. On the other hand, society is increasingly concerned to bring healthy eating habits. A RFID (radio frequency identification) food management system is designed to palliate the previously described issues in an Internet of Things (IoT) network paradigm. It consists of RFID readers placed on a user’s kitchen furniture, which automatically reads food information. There is no need for direct sight between reader and tag, as it occurs through the barcode technology. As a complement, a multi-platform web application is developed, allowing its users to check the date of food expiration and other detailed information. The application notifies the user when a product is about to expire. It also offers recipes that might be prepared with available foods, thus preventing them from being wasted. The recipes are accompanied by their nutritional information, so that the user can exhaustively monitor what he/she eats. This embedded system may provide economic benefits to the manufacturer, since it allows supermarkets to pay for displaying their products advertised through the application. After system deployment, design conclusions are shown, and future improvement points are indicated.

The increasing number of motorcycles in Indonesia creates enormous problems because of the hectic involved; thus, parking management becomes a big challenge. The applicability and the possibility of a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) were studied in finding the solution of this pressing issue. The study was conducted at Narotama University which is located in Surabaya, East Java. This study was expected to find solutions related to provide parking facilities using RFID method to identify motorcycles. The goal of this study is to determine the number of motorcycle vehicles which is being parked electronically to facilitate the management in organizing motorcycle in parking facilities. Hence, the management can arrange the requirement of parking system in the future. From the study, it can be concluded that RFID can make the process faster and easier so that the line can significantly be reduced and provide more user friendly system because the system will give the information about parking availability. Moreover, this RFID parking system and the software can be more reliable and secured due to more complete and accurate data in the registration process required to the users.
