The influence of sacrificial anode electrochemical properties interfered by direct stray current (DC) of 0 V, 1 V, 3 V, and 5 V, with different chloride ion concentration and temperature, was studied by open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and polarization curves. The specific performance was as follows: as the DC interference voltage increased from 0 V to 5 V, the degree of positive migration of the sacrificial anode open circuit potential increased. The effect of temperature in DC interference voltage environment on sacrificial anode corrosion was not great, but the low temperature of 10°C could slow down the sacrificial anode corrosion and maintain good work efficiency. With the increase of the ambient temperature, the degree of corrosion of the sacrificial anode was deepened. As the chloride ion concentration in DC interference voltage environment increased from 0% to 0.3%, the degree of positive migration of the sacrificial anode open circuit potential increased. The higher the chloride ion concentration was, the greater the impact on the performance of the sacrificial anode was.

In this study, the effect of the addition of Nd3+ ions as a corrosion inhibitor of the API X70 steel in a medium rich in chlorides was evaluated. The performance of the Nd3+ ions was evaluated by means of electrochemical techniques such as potentiodynamic polarization curves, open circuit potential measurements, linear polarization resistance, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, as well as by means of scanning electron microscopy and EDS measurements. The results showed that Nd3+ ions reduce the corrosion rate of steel at concentrations as low as 0.001 M Nd3+. At higher concentrations, the inhibition efficiency was only slightly affected although the concentration of chloride ions was increased by the addition of the inhibitor. The adsorption of the Nd3+ ions promotes the formation of a protective layer of oxides/hydroxides on the metal surface, thereby reducing the exchange rate of electrons. Nd3+ ions act as a mixed inhibitor with a strong predominant cathodic effect.

The impact of Lidocaine as a save corrosion inhibitor for mild steel (MS) in 1M HCl by using weight loss (WL), Hydrogen evaluation (HE), open circuit potential (EO C P), potentiodynamic polarization (PP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) techniques has been investigated. Weight loss studied at various temperatures between (25-45oC) but Hydrogen evaluation and electrochemical studies at room temperature. The effect of temperature on the inhibition of corrosion has been studied and the thermodynamic activation and adsorption parameters were calculated. The morphology of MS was examined by scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) technology and atomic force microscopy (AFM). EIS data indicate that in the presence of drug the double layer capacitance was decreased and the charge transfer resistance increased. The adsorption of the Lidocaine on MS surface was found to obey Langmuir adsorption isotherm and elucidate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. The Lidocaine drug acts as mixed type inhibitor. All surface examination confirms the formation thin film covered the surface of the metal and prevent the surface of the metal from corrosion.

Self-compacting concrete is characterized as a system that has a mix design that increased strength and reduced amount of empty space within material. Reinforced concrete structures exposed to carbonation and chloride ion, are exposed to environmental conditions that cause degradation. Concrete were exposed to an accelerated carbonation test (3% CO2, 65% relative humidity, and 25 o C temperatures) and next it was tested under complete immersion, in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution. . Monitoring of open-circuit potential, polarization resistance measurement and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were used to evaluate the corrosion behavior of steel bar.

The initiation and development of pitting corrosion of steel 20Cr13 in the NaCl solutions with various concentrations, temperatures, and pH values are studied under the potentiostatic conditions and at the free-corrosion potential. The pitting and repassivation potentials are determined using the method of cycling voltammetry. In spite of the fact that thus determined pitting potential is more positive than the corrosion potential (the open-circuit potential Eo.c.), the long-term experiments, which were performed at the free-corrosion potential, showed that pitting corrosion takes place without imposing a potential using an external power source. It is concluded that the probability of pitting corrosion of steel should be determined by comparing the corrosion potential (the open-circuit potential) with the repassivation potential Erp. Steel 20Cr13 is prone to the pitting corrosion, because Erp is more negative than Eo.c.. In the potentiostatic experiments, the variation of the depth and diameter of pits and their number with the time and the effect of temperature and electrode rotation on the pit propagation are studied. The results, which were obtained at the free-corrosion potential, are much less reproducible. In this case, in contrast to the potentiostatic conditions, the pit depth increased only slightly and the pit width increased to a larger extent. The effect of concentration, pH value, and temperature of NaCl solutions on the pit propagation is considered. It is concluded that the data on the development of pitting corrosion under the potentiostatic conditions can be hardly extended to the conditions of free corrosion potential.

In this study, a waste of biorefinery—lignin—is investigated as an anticorrosion coating on stainless steel. Corrosion behavior of two lignin types (hardwood beech and softwood spruce) was studied by electrochemical measurements (linear sweep voltammetry, open circuit potential, potentiostatic polarization, cyclic potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance measurements) during exposure to simulated body fluid (SBF) or phosphate buffer (PBS). Results from linear sweep voltammetry of lignin-coated samples, in particular, demonstrated a reduction in corrosion current density between 1 and 3 orders of magnitude cf. blank stainless steel. Furthermore, results from cross cut adhesion tests on lignin-coated samples demonstrated that the best possible adhesion (grade 0) of ISO 2409 standard was achieved for the investigated novel coatings. Such findings suggest that lignin materials could transform the field of organic coatings towards more sustainable alternatives by replacing non-renewable polymer coatings.

Potentiodynamic polarization data for nickel alloys N07718 and N07208 in 2M H2SO4 solution at 0% - 5% NaCl concentrations are presented in tabular form showing the qualitative relationship between the corrosion resistance, passivation behavior and interfacial redox reactions of the alloys with the increase in chloride ion concentration. Tafel plots from the polarization test are presented to show the anodic-cathodic transition curves with respect to variable applied potential and scan rate. Data on open circuit potential measurement for the 1200s showed the active-passive behavior of both alloys and their thermodynamic stability in the acid solution. Optical micro-analytical images of the alloys before corrosion and at 0%, 0.5% and 5% NaCl after corrosion are presented for morphological and comparative analysis.

We present the preparation and inhibition behavior of rebar in the presence of calcium nitrate (CN)-containing microcapsules with concentrations of 0.50, 2.00, and 5.00 wt.% in concrete. From both open circuit potential (OCP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy spectra, it was found that an addition of microcapsules containing CN corrosion inhibitor into concrete beams successfully repassivated or maintained the passivity of the rebar when the concrete was cracked. This corrosion inhibitor repassivated the rebar by forming a passive layer on the rebar surface under the crack. This repassivation process was evident by an increase of OCP values to more positive values or by stable OCP values at around -100 mV vs SCE. An increase in phase angle after corrosion activation for the sample with 2.00 wt.% microcapsule clearly showed this repassivation process. The optimum concentration for maintaining the passivity on rebar in the cracked concrete was found to be 5.00 wt.%.

By systematic tuning of the components of the electrolyte, the performances of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) with an N-heterocyclic carbene iron(II) dye have been significantly improved. The beneficial effects of an increased Li+ ion concentration in the electrolyte lead to photoconversion efficiencies (PCEs) up to 0.66% for fully masked cells (representing 11.8% relative to 100% set for N719) and an external quantum efficiency maximum (EQEmax) up to approximately 25% due to an increased short-circuit current density (JSC). A study of the effects of varying the length of the alkyl chain in 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide ionic liquids (ILs) shows that a longer chain results in an increase in JSC with an overall efficiency up to 0.61% (10.9% relative to N719 set at 100%) on going from n-methyl to n-butyl chain, although an n-hexyl chain leads to no further gain in PCE. The results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) support the trends in JSC and open-circuit voltage (VOC) parameters. A change in the counterion from I− to [BF4]− for 1-propyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide ionic liquid leads to DSCs with a remarkably high JSC value for an N-heterocyclic carbene iron(II) dye of 4.90 mA cm−2, but a low VOC of 244 mV. Our investigations have shown that an increased concentration of Li+ in combination with an optimized alkyl chain length in the 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide IL in the electrolyte leads to iron(II)-sensitized DSC performances comparable with those of containing some copper(I)-based dyes.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the oral environment on the corrosion of dental alloys with different compositions, using electrochemical methods. The corrosion rates were obtained from the current-potential curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The effect of artificial saliva on the corrosion of dental alloys was dependent on alloy composition. Dissolution of the ions occurred in all tested dental alloys and the results were strongly dependent on the general alloy composition. Regarding the alloys containing nickel, the Ni-Cr and Ni-Cr-Ti alloys released 0.62 mg/L of Ni on average, while the Co-Cr dental alloy released ions between 0.01 and 0.03 mg/L of Co and Cr, respectively. The open-circuit potential stabilized at a higher level with lower deviation (standard deviation: Ni-Cr-6Ti = 32 mV/SCE and Co-Cr = 54 mV/SCE). The potenciodynamic curves of the dental alloys showed that the Ni-based dental alloy with >70 wt% of Ni had a similar curve and the Co-Cr dental alloy showed a low current density and hence a high resistance to corrosion compared with the Ni-based dental alloys. Some changes in microstructure were observed and this fact influenced the corrosion behavior for the alloys. The lower corrosion resistance also led to greater release of nickel ions to the medium. The quantity of Co ions released from the Co-Cr-Mo alloy was relatively small in the solutions. In addition, the quantity of Cr ions released into the artificial saliva from the Co-Cr alloy was lower than Cr release from the Ni-based dental alloys.
