A comprehensive analysis of environmental loads across the Czech Republic in terms of frost-induced damage is presented. Computational simulation of hygrothermal performance of eleven characteristic types of building envelopes, composed of both contemporary and historical materials, is performed at first. The exterior boundary conditions of the computational model are defined by a set of weather data characterizing the environmental conditions in the Czech Republic, which are acquired from 64 weather stations. The results of hygrothermal simulations are assessed using several specific damage functions. In this way, the basic datasets for the frost damage analysis are obtained. Their application as input parameters of a specially developed correction procedure based on elevation makes them possible to obtain a continuous coverage of the geographic area of the Czech Republic. Finally, isopleths of the supposed frost damage are drawn, depending on the envelope type, and damage maps are produced which may help the engineers to enhance the building envelope design process. The presented results indicate the necessity of paying attention to local environmental loads in the building enclosure design process and reveal both critical and favorable locations from the point of view of frost-induced damage to buildings.

A private owner established a plantation of a semi-arid hybrid of Paulownia Clone in vitro 112® near the village of Střelice u Brna in 2016. We split the plantation according to terrain micro-relief (into three expositions: South slope, Plain area and North slope) and according to the applied biotechnology of planting (into two parts: each with planting into 20 and 30 cm holes in diameter). We tested different winter protection techniques for above and belowground plant organs. The results suggest that plants inside the 30 cm holes survive and grow better than those inside the 20 cm ones, regardless of terrain micro-relief. On the other hand, plants inside the 20 cm holes survive and grow better on flat areas compared to the others. The most effective protection of the root system against frost during the wintertime seems to be simple soil covering. We have also recognized that bandage of non-woven fabric is the best protection for the above-ground parts of the plants. However, growing conditions in the Czech Republic (CR) are different to those in semi-arid climate for which researchers bred the Paulownia Clone in vitro 112®. It is possible to achieve well-growing and surviving Paulownia plants under growing conditions of the CR when appropriate biotechnology and continuous treatment are applied. The article deals with the architectural proposal of the outdoorexhibition of Archeopark Pavlov, which is the result of the cooperationof students and tutors of Mendel University in Brno with the RegionalMuseum in Mikulov and the Archaeological Institute of the Academy ofSciences of the Czech Republic, Brno. The ideas and principles of inter-pretation of cultural heritage were used in the proposal. The purpose ofthe article is to describe a design process of an outdoor exhibition in-volving various professional professions – landscaping architect, archae-ologist and museum employees. Secondly it describes how the ideas andprinciples of interpretation of cultural heritage were implemented in theproject. The outdoor permanent exhibition is made up of plant design,paving and interactive elements and provides space for experimental andeducational activities. Every feature of the exhibition is described in de-tail and contains a commentary on how to act on the visitor.

Abstract The main aim of this paper is to verify the hypothesis that the shift in levels of main macroeconomic variables – in this case in levels of GDP and exports – cause shift of employment levels in private sector, and this change is different for smaller enterprises than for “big players”. Calculated estimation will be presented on data from the sector of transportation and storage for four countries – the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Poland and Slovakia for the period 2005-2014, which cover the economic crisis in 2008. Countries were selected such that they cover both highly developed countries (Germany and Austria) and former Eastern Bloc countries (Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia) of the European Union placed in the close geographic area. Expected results would show different trends in employment levels for different types of enterprises in all countries.

The present paper analyses the problem of calculation of the average number of hours in a year during which air temperature is lower than a preselected limiting level. A method for estimating the number of hours in situations where only the minimum, average, and maximum daily temperature data are available has been suggested and tested. The work encompassed 30 sites in the Czech Republic at different altitudes and with different average temperatures, using weather data from the 1961–2000 period. The results are presented in the tabular form. It is shown that interdependence exists between the number of hours with temperatures lower than a preselected limiting level and the average yearly temperature at the specific site. For instance, temperatures below 15°C during a typical year at a site with an average yearly temperature θyr (°C) within the range of 2.8°C to 9°C can be expected (coefficient of determination 0.986) for a time τ (h) calculated from the quadratic equation τ = –12.992 × θyr 2 – 116.6 × θyr + 8,483.
