Four alkyl propargyl bis(hydroxyethyl) ammonium surfactants with different lengths in hydrophobic tail (C8–C16) are prepared by direct alkylation of diethanolamine with alkyl bromides. The surfactants exhibit excellent surface properties. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) values of the surfactants 2c and 2d are found to be 7.63×10-4 and 1.23×10-4 mol/L, and the corresponding surface tension (γCMC) values are 31.83 and 31.69 mN/m, respectively. Furthermore, all of the synthesized propargyl quaternary ammonium salts are found to be very effective in inhibiting the corrosion of N80 steel (IE% = 92–98%). They can be used at a relatively high temperature (≥90°C) and a low concentration (0.039 wt.%). In addition, the apparent viscosity of surfactant 2d is studied at various temperatures, and it can be used as a viscoelastic surfactant up to 100°C. The synthesized surfactants possess multiple functions and have a very good compatibility with VES systems. They can be potentially used in various oil field applications such as enhanced oil recovery, fracturing, acid diversion, and well stimulation.

The composite flooding formula utilizes the characteristics of polymer flooding and surfactant flooding to compensate for the shortage of single component chemical flooding, reduce the oil-water interfacial tension to a certain extent, and broaden the maintenance range of low interfacial tension. The combined effects and synergies in the oil displacement process enhance oil recovery and allow it to adapt to a wider range of reservoir conditions. In this paper, the high surface active polymer-surfactant flooding formula suitable for the Chang 6 reservoir in Ansai Oilfield was evaluated. The general technical index of the viscoelastic surfactant fracturing fluid and the composite flooding surfactant were evaluated. The technical requirements are evaluation criteria, and comprehensive evaluation is made from several aspects such as salt tolerance, interfacial tension and emulsifying properties.

The results of a pilot application of a chemical composition for enhanced oil recovery developed at the IPC SB RAS are presented. The EOR-composition was tested in 2014 at the Permian-Carboniferous heavy oil deposit at the Usinskoye oil field. It is very effective for an increase in oil production rate and decrease in water cuttings of well production. In terms of the additionally produced oil, the resulting effect is up to 800 tons per well and its duration is up to 6 months. The application of technologies of low-productivity-well stimulation using the oil-displacing IKhNPRO system with controlled viscosity and alkalinity is thought to be promising. This composition is proposed for the cold’ stimulation of high-viscosity oil production as an alternative to thermal methods.

Three different kinds of imidazoline quaternary ammonium salts were synthesized with the use of valeric acid, decanoic acid, oleic acid, diethylenetriamine, benzyl chloride and thiourea as raw materials. The corrosion inhibition performances on carbon steel in HCl solution were measured via static weight loss method and polarization curve method. Partition coefficients in water and oil were measured, from which thermodynamic parameters of G0→w、ΔS0→w and ΔH0→w were obtained. Temperature effect on the mass transfer between water and oil were examined.Corrosion inhibitor protection is an effective solution to oil field corrosion problems in the acidification process [1]. Most organic inhibitor molecules contain lone pair electrons and rich π-electron such as O, N, S, P atoms or polar groups [2]. Imidazoline compounds contain N nuclei and unsaturated double bond of the larger electronegativity and it has a strong adsorption in the steel surface. Because it has good thermal stability, low toxicity and no irritating odor [3,4], it is considered to be excellent corrosion inhibitors in acidic solution.

Although new energy has been widely used in our lives, oil is still one of the main energy sources in the world. After the application of traditional oil recovery methods, there are still a large number of oil layers that have not been exploited, and there is still a need to further increase oil recovery to meet the urgent need for oil in the world economic development. Chemically enhanced oil recovery (CEOR) is considered to be a kind of effective enhanced oil recovery technology, which has achieved good results in the field, but these technologies cannot simultaneously effectively improve oil sweep efficiency, oil washing efficiency, good injectability, and reservoir environment adaptability. Viscoelastic surfactants (VES) have unique micelle structure and aggregation behavior, high efficiency in reducing the interfacial tension of oil and water, and the most important and unique viscoelasticity, etc., which has attracted the attention of academics and field experts and introduced into the technical research of enhanced oil recovery. In this paper, the mechanism and research status of viscoelastic surfactant flooding are discussed in detail and focused, and the results of viscoelastic surfactant flooding experiments under different conditions are summarized. Finally, the problems to be solved by viscoelastic surfactant flooding are introduced, and the countermeasures to solve the problems are put forward. This overview presents extensive information about viscoelastic surfactant flooding used for EOR, and is intended to help researchers and professionals in this field understand the current situation.
