We reported a preparation and characterization of five kinds of impregnation solutions, containing Ag/Cu in the form of bimetallic nanoparticles (alloy and core-shell) as well as ionic species. The cotton-polyester textiles were successfully impregnated during the washing and ironing process by as-prepared solutions to have antibacterial and antifungal properties against toEscherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,andCandida albicans. Moreover, we have reported the effect of type of the fabric used and number of washing/impregnation cycles (in a laboratory scale) on the bactericidal and fungicidal activity of obtained textiles. The results indicated that all tested samples after 5, 10, 15, and 20 washing/impregnated cycles exhibited an antimicrobial activity. The antifungal tests showed that only textile impregnated with solutions containing Ag+/Cu2+and Ag NPs/Cu2+exhibited a strong inhibition of fungi growth of the after 5 (99.99%) and 15 (100%) washing/impregnation cycles, respectively.

Some Schiff base compounds derived from sulfonamide drug were synthesized by reaction of 4-aminobenzenesulfonamide with aromatic aldehydes (2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde, 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde and 2-hydroxy benzaldehyde) in good yields.  Characterization of synthesized compound was carried by elemental analysis, IR, 1H,13C, HSQC and HMBC- NMR spectroscopy. The synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus sp., Bacillus subtillus, Escherichia coli and  Klebsiella pneumonia. Additionally, the compounds were tested for antifungicidal activity against Candida krusei, Candida tropicalis, Aspergillus fumigates and Aspergillus niger.

Antibacterial and antifungal activities of methanol extracts of the moss species Fontinalis antipyretica Hedw. var. antipyretica, Hypnum cupressiforme Hedw., and Ctenidium molluscum (Hedw.) Mitt. were analyzed. Antimicrobial activity was tested against Gram (+) (Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus flavus, and Staphylococcus epidermidis) and Gram (-) (Escherichia coli and Salmonella enteritidis) bacteria. Antifungal activity of extracts was tested using the following micromycetes: Trichoderma viride, Penicillium funiculosum, P. ochrochloron, Aspergillus fumigatus, A. flavus, and A. niger. The methanol extract of Fontinalis antipyretica showed the strongest activity against the tested bacteria and micromycetes. The antibacterial effect of methanol extracts was higher against the G (-) (Escherichia coli and Salmonella enteritidis) than against the G (+) bacteria tested.

Due to the emergence of multidrug-resistant pathogenic microorganisms, the search for new antimicrobial compounds plays an important role in current medicinal chemistry research. Inspired by lichen antimicrobial xanthones, a series of novel chlorinated xanthones was prepared using five chlorination methods (Methods A–E) to obtain different patterns of substitution in the xanthone scaffold. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity. Among them, 3-chloro-4,6-dimethoxy-1-methyl-9H-xanthen-9-one 15 showed promising antibacterial activity against E. faecalis (ATCC 29212 and 29213) and S. aureus ATCC 29213. 2,7-Dichloro-3,4,6-trimethoxy-1-methyl-9H-xanthen-9-one 18 revealed a potent fungistatic and fungicidal activity against dermatophytes clinical strains (T. rubrum, M. canis, and E. floccosum (MIC = 4–8 µg/mL)). Moreover, when evaluated for its synergistic effect for T. rubrum, compound 18 exhibited synergy with fluconazole (ΣFIC = 0.289). These results disclosed new hit xanthones for both antibacterial and antifungal activity.

Thiadiazole is a heterocyclic compound containg both two nitrogen atom and one sulfur atom as a part of the aromatic five-membered ring. The imidazo [2,1-b]-1,3,4-thiadiazole ring system is the core skeleton of well known immunomodulator levamisole. The synthesis and antimicrobial activity of nine 6-Phenyl-2- substituted imidazo [2,1-b]-1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives were reported against Gram +ve bacteria Bacillius subtilis (MTCC 121), Staphyloccus aureus (MTCC 87), Gram –ve bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC 424), Escherichia coli (MTCC 40), and fungal strains Candida albicans (MTCC 183), Fusarium solani (MTCC 2935), Fusarium oxyporium (MTCC 2840). Ciprofloxacin and Fluconazole were used as standard drug for antibacterial and antifungal activity respectively. The synthesized compound (6) and (5b) had moderate antibacterial activity especially with Gram negative Escherichia coli (MTCC 40) where (5a) and (5f) had good antibacterial activity. The structures of the synthesized compounds were established by IR, NMR and Mass spectral studies.

Objective: This research aimed to isolate, determine the characteristics of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) of Sui Wu’u from Bajawa, Nusa Tenggara Timur and identify LAB using 16S rRNA potential as antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria. Methods: Sui Wu’u which has been stored for 6 months was obtained from Bajawa district, inoculated on de Man Rogosa-Sharpe Agar (Merck) + 0.5% CaCO3, purification of LAB, characterization of selected isolates, biochemical test, tolerance test for pH, viability to test temperature, and content NaCl, determination of antimicrobial action by the agar well disk diffusion method using antibiotic (Amoxicillin) as a control and as indicator bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli) and isolation of genomic 16S rRNA; molecular identification. Results: Based on research results obtained five isolates of LAB, Gram staining the LAB isolated from Sui Wu’u showed that the isolated bacteria (bacilli and coccus) are Gram-positive, catalase-negative and the isolates have tolerance of viability at temperatures of 10°C, 45°C, and 50°C and to salinitas of 4% and 6.5%. The inhibitory zone LAB isolates (2PKT) against E. coli bacteria (20 mm) and S. aureus (12 mm), and (2PKB) against E. coli bacteria (17 mm) and S. aureus (10 mm). The two selected isolates were identified as Lactobacillus fermentum strain HB bacteria with 100% identification value and 98.93% query cover and L. fermentum strain HT with 100% identification value and 99.23% query cover. Conclusion: L. fermentum from Sui Wu’u has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

The present study was evaluated the antibacterial and antifungal activity of various extracts of S.gardneri against four different bactria and fungal strains like Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella para typhi b, Alternaria alternate, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium notatum and Cladosporium carrionii. All the results were compared with respective positive control.

An efficient and green methodology to synthesize cyclic dithiocarbamates (compounds 1-11) was developed by reaction of primary amines, CS2 and 1,2-dibromoethane or 1,4-dibromobutane, catalyzed by Triton-B (as PTC)/CS2 system. Mass spectroscopy, elemental analysis and 1H NMR are used for characterization of the synthesized compounds (1-11). This effectual green tactics give good yield of product which entails mild conditions. Compounds (1-11) were found to possess in vitro antimicrobial activities against the pathogenic bacterial and fungal strain. The microbial strains used to screen activities are Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans.

The aim of this study was to compare the chemical compositions and biological potentials (antioxidant potentials, ?-glucosidase test and antimicrobial activity) of wild and cultivated blackberry varieties from two different locations. The chemical compositions were evaluated in fresh samples, while the biological potentials were measured in dry blackberry extracts. The highest dry matter (15.73 g/100 g fw) was obtained for wild blackberry from Verici (Bw2). The significantly higher content of sugars (6.07 g/100 g fw) and ascorbic acid (21.36 g/100 g dw) was found in Chester Thornless blackberry (Bc1) comparing to other samples. The wild blackberry from Javorani (Bw1) showed the highest amount of polyphenols, as well as antioxidant potentials on DPPH (184.26 mmol Trolox/kg dw), ABTS (340.26 mmol Trolox/kg dw) and OH (944.03 mmol BHT/kg dw) radicals. The antihyperglycemic potentials of the extracts were determined by the ?-glucosidase test. The cultivated blackberry Cacanka Bestrna (Bc2) showed the stronger inhibition of ?-glucosidase enzyme (?-GIP = 50.69 %) than other varieties (p<0.05). Wild blackberry extracts showed higher antibacterial and antifungal activity towards Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Aspergillus niger. The results presented in this study indicated the differences between wild and cultivated blackberry varieties, as well as mutual differences in chemical composition, polyphenol contents, biological potentials, along with the antimicrobial activity of wild and cultivated blackberry varieties from two different locations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This study presented a photoreduction route for synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) in ionic liquid microemulsions (ILMs). The 10 nm Ag NPs were photochemically synthesized in the H2O/Triton X-100/[Bmim]PF6 (HTB) ILMs. Above 99% Escherichia coli (E. coli) BL21 was killed in the presence of 1.56 μg/mL Ag NPs solution after incubation for 20 min, indicating that the Ag NPs prepared in HTB ILMs was applicable for the antimicrobial agent. This proposed approach for controllable preparation of Ag NPs is facile and environment-friendly, which provides great possibilities for the further functional modification of Ag NPs.
