This paper proposes a new analytical model of a multiservice switching network with overflow links in the first stage and resource reservation for selected call classes in output directions. The proposed model assumes that both the overflow mechanism and the resource reservation mechanism can be used in a number of selected, or all, classes of calls. A particular attention is given to the way the effective availability parameter for networks with overflow links in the point-to-point selection mode is determined. The proposed model makes it possible to determine dependencies between the internal blocking probability, capacity of overflow links, and the number of reserved resources for call classes to be analysed. Simulation experiments confirm high accuracy of the proposed method and potential applications of the model in engineering issues.

This article presents a method to determine the blocking probability (non-availability) for strictly determined multi-service resources that belong to a group of multi-service resources. The dependencies obtained during the process correspond to the Palm-Jacobaeus formula derived for the group of resources servicing single-service traffic. The approach to determining the blocking probability is based on the determination of the availability of resources at the occupancy level of allocation units. The analytical results are compared with the obtained results of the simulation experiments for a number of selected parameters of multi-service groups of resources. The results of the present study indicate a high accuracy of the proposed solutions. The elaborated extension of the Palm-Jacobaeus formula can be used in the modeling of separated wireless resources in cellular networks.

An effective method for estimating time-varying turning fractions at signalized intersections is described. With the inclusion of approximate intersection delay, the proposed model can account for the impacts of signal setting on the dynamic distribution of intersection flows. To improve the estimation accuracy, the use of preestimated turning fractions from a relatively longer time interval has been proposed to serve as additional constraints for the same estimation but over a short time interval. The results of extensive simulation experiments indicated that the proposed method can yield sufficiently accurate as well as efficient estimation of dynamic turning fractions for signalized intersections.

The conception of the comprehensive thermal error of servo axes is given. Thermal characteristics of a preloaded ball screw on a gantry milling machine is investigated, and the error and temperature data are obtained. The comprehensive thermal error is divided into two parts: thermal expansion error ((TEE) in the stroke range) and thermal drift error ((TDE) of origin). The thermal mechanism and thermal error variation of preloaded ball screw are expounded. Based on the generation, conduction, and convection theory of heat, the thermal field models of screw caused by friction of screw-nut pairs and bearing blocks are derived. The prediction for TEE is presented based on thermal fields of multiheat sources. Besides, the factors influencing TDE are analyzed, and the model of TDE is established based on the least square method. The predicted thermal field of the screw is analyzed. The simulation and experimental results indicate that high accuracy stability can be obtained using the proposed model. Moreover, high accuracy stability can still be achieved even if the moving state of servo axis changes randomly, the screw is preloaded, and the thermal deformation process is complex. Strong robustness of the model is verified.

Virtualization of resources is a widely accepted technique to optimize resources in recent technologies. Virtualization allows users to execute their services on the same physical machine, keeping these services isolated from each other. This paper proposes the analytical models for performability evaluation of virtualized servers with dynamic resource utilization. The performance and avalability models are considered separately due to the behaviour of the proposed system. The well-known Markov Reward Model (MRM) is used for the solution of the analytical model considered together with an exact spectral expansion and product form solution. The dynamic resource utilization is employed to enhance the QoS of the proposed model which is another major issue in the performance characterization of virtulazilation. In this paper, the performability output parameters, such as mean queue length, mean response time and blocking probability are computed and presented for the proposed model. In addition, the performability results obtained from the analytical models are validated by the simulation (DES) results to show the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed work. The results indicate the proposed modelling results show good agreement with DES and understand the factors are very important to improve the QoS.

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has been used for obtaining weights for the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), an approach known as DEAHP. This method sometimes identifies more than one decision criterion or alternative as DEAHP-efficient. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a new approach that not only generates appropriate weights for the decision criteria or alternatives, but also differentiates between DEAHP-efficient decision criteria or alternatives. To this end, we propose a DEA model with an assurance region and a cross-weight model that prioritizes decision criteria or alternatives by considering their most unfavorable weights. Two numerical examples are also provided to illustrate the advantages and potential applications of the proposed model.

AA well-known challenge with long running time queries in database environments is how much time a query will take to execute. This prediction is relevant for several reasons. For instance, by knowing that a query will take longer to execute than desired, one resource reservation mechanism can be performed, which means reserving more resources in order to execute this query in a shorter time in a future request. In this research work, it is presented a proposal in which the use of an advance reservation mechanism in a cloud database environment, considering machine learning techniques, provides resource recommendation. The proposed model is presented, in addition to some experiments that evaluate benefits and the efficiency of this enhanced proposal.

This chapter describes how with Botnets becoming more and more the leading cyber threat on the web nowadays, they also serve as the key platform for carrying out large-scale distributed attacks. Although a substantial amount of research in the fields of botnet detection and analysis, bot-masters inculcate new techniques to make them more sophisticated, destructive and hard to detect with the help of code encryption and obfuscation. This chapter proposes a new model to detect botnet behavior on the basis of traffic analysis and machine learning techniques. Traffic analysis behavior does not depend upon payload analysis so the proposed technique is immune to code encryption and other evasion techniques generally used by bot-masters. This chapter analyzes the benchmark datasets as well as real-time generated traffic to determine the feasibility of botnet detection using traffic flow analysis. Experimental results clearly indicate that a proposed model is able to classify the network traffic as a botnet or as normal traffic with a high accuracy and low false-positive rates.

This paper presents the development of a new bi-arc dynamic numerical model for predicting AC critical flashover voltage (FOV) of ice-covered extra-high voltage (EHV) insulators. The proposed model is based on a generic calculation algorithm coupled with commercial finite element method software designed to solve the Obenaus/Rizk model. The proposed model allows one to implement the Nottingham and Mayr approaches and compare the results obtained as a function of the arcing distance, the freezing water conductivity, and the initial arc length. The validation of the model demonstrated high accuracy in predicting the FOV of ice-covered post-type insulators and its capability to simulate the interaction of the two partial arcs during the flashover process. In particular, the results showed that the Nottingham approach is sensibly more accurate than the Mayr one, especially in simulating the dynamic behavior of the partial arcs during the flashover process. Based on the encouraging results obtained, a multi-arc calculation algorithm was proposed using the bi-arc dynamic numerical model as a basis. The basic idea, which consists in dividing the multi-arc model in several bi-arc modules, was not implemented and validated but will serve as a promising concept for future work.

In order to acquire a kind of high accuracy multi-beams direction-finding method, this paper proposes a sort of 2-D multi-beams direction-finding method based on surface fitting. Three main factors influencing direction-finding accuracy are summarized in this paper, and the specific influence of these three factors to direction finding accuracy are analyzed by simulation experiments. The result of simulation experiments analysis shows that this method has higher steadiness and better direction-finding accuracy.
