We consider positive solutions and optimal control problem for a second order impulsive differential equation with mixed monotone terms. Firstly, by using a fixed point theorem of mixed monotone operator, we study positive solutions of the boundary value problem for impulsive differential equations with mixed monotone terms, and sufficient conditions for existence and uniqueness of positive solutions will be established. Also, we study positive solutions of the initial value problem for our system. Moreover, we investigate the control problem of positive solutions to our equations, and then, we prove the existence of an optimal control and its stability. In addition, related examples will be given for illustrations.

This paper investigates the existence and uniqueness of mild solutions to the general nonlinear stochastic impulsive differential equations. By using Schaefer's fixed theorem and stochastic analysis technique, we propose sufficient conditions on existence and uniqueness of solution for stochastic differential equations with impulses. An example is also discussed to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

We establish some sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of positive solutions to a class of initial value problem for impulsive fractional differential equations involving the Caputo fractional derivative. Our analysis relies on a fixed point theorem for mixed monotone operators. Our result can not only guarantee the existence of a unique positive solution but also be applied to construct an iterative scheme for approximating it. An example is given to illustrate our main result.

We provide easy and readable GNU Octave/MATLAB code for the simulation of mathematical models described by ordinary differential equations and for the solution of optimal control problems through Pontryagin’s maximum principle. For that, we consider a normalized HIV/AIDS transmission dynamics model based on the one proposed in our recent contribution (Silva, C.J.; Torres, D.F.M. A SICA compartmental model in epidemiology with application to HIV/AIDS in Cape Verde. Ecol. Complex. 2017, 30, 70–75), given by a system of four ordinary differential equations. An HIV initial value problem is solved numerically using the ode45 GNU Octave function and three standard methods implemented by us in Octave/MATLAB: Euler method and second-order and fourth-order Runge–Kutta methods. Afterwards, a control function is introduced into the normalized HIV model and an optimal control problem is formulated, where the goal is to find the optimal HIV prevention strategy that maximizes the fraction of uninfected HIV individuals with the least HIV new infections and cost associated with the control measures. The optimal control problem is characterized analytically using the Pontryagin Maximum Principle, and the extremals are computed numerically by implementing a forward-backward fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. Complete algorithms, for both uncontrolled initial value and optimal control problems, developed under the free GNU Octave software and compatible with MATLAB are provided along the article.

In this article, we examine nonautonomous bifurcation patterns in nonlinear systems of impulsive differential equations. The approach is based on Lyapunov–Schmidt reduction applied to the linearization of a particular nonlinear integral operator whose zeroes coincide with bounded solutions of the impulsive differential equation in question. This leads to sufficient conditions for the presence of fold, transcritical and pitchfork bifurcations. Additionally, we provide a computable necessary condition for bifurcation in nonlinear scalar impulsive differential equations. Several examples are provided illustrating the results.

Abstract In this thesis, we investigate a kind of impulsive fractional order differential systems involving control terms. By using a class of φ-concave-convex mixed monotone operator fixed point theorem, we obtain a theorem on the existence and uniqueness of positive solutions for the impulsive fractional differential equation, and the optimal control problem of positive solutions is also studied. As applications, an example is offered to illustrate our main results.

AbstractThis paper is devoted to a system of nonlinear impulsive differential equations with three-point boundary conditions. The Green function is constructed and considered original problem is reduced to the equivalent impulsive integral equations. Sufficient conditions are found for the existence and uniqueness of solutions for the boundary value problems for the first order nonlinear system of the impulsive ordinary differential equations with three-point boundary conditions. The Banach fixed point theorem is used to prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution of the problem and Schaefer’s fixed point theorem is used to prove the existence of a solution of the problem under consideration. We illustrate the application of the main results by two examples.

Using a new fixed point theorem of generalized concave operators, we present in this paper criteria which guarantee the existence and uniqueness of positive solutions to nonlinear two-point boundary value problems for second-order impulsive differential equations with concave or convex nonlinearities.
