The discovery of the coexistence of superconductivity and weak ferromagnetism in ruthenocuprates like (Ru, R-1222; R = Eu, Gd) and RuSr2GdCu2O8 (Ru-1212) has created a tremendous interest both experimentally as well as theoretically. Here, we have prepared polycrystalline samples of RuSr2R1.4Ce0.6Cu2O10 (R = Gd, Eu, and Sm) by the standard solid state reaction method. These samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, dc resistivity, and squid measurements. All the prepared samples were single phase without any trace of impurity. From the low-temperature resistivity measurement, the samples of (R = Eu and Gd) were found to be superconducting, while the samples of RuSr2Sm1.6Ce0.4Cu2O10 show semiconducting behavior. The magnetization (M) versus field (H) hysteresis at 5 K clearly shows the ferromagnetic behavior of the samples. The zero field cooled magnetization () and field cooled magnetization () diverge at 100 K.

The Mg2Si compound was synthesized by the solid state reaction method. The powder precursors of Mg and Si were thoroughly mixed in ballmilling for 24 hr in an argon atmosphere. Mixed powder was pressed at 170MPa and sintered at 800 °C for 6 hr in an argon atmosphere. The sinter powder was crushed in mortar for 1 hr. The crystal structure and microstructure were measured and observed by using XRD and SEM. The microstructure and the crystal structure were analyzed. TheMg2Si shows single phase, cubic structure and particle size about 1-10 mm.

Phase-pure Eu3+doped Gd2Sn2O7nanocrystals have been successfully synthesized via a co-precipitation processes combined with hydrothermal treatment. The crystal structure, particle size, morphologies, composition, and photoluminescence properties of the as-synthesized products were investigated by XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS and PL. The samples were single-phase cubic pyrochlore-type nanocrystals with a typical size of about 30 - 60 nm. All the samples exhibited irregular flower like secondary nanostructure assembled by primary nanoparticles. Photoluminescence properties of Gd2Sn2O7:Eu3+were investigated, and the results revealed that the as-synthesized materials displayed intense and prevailing emission located at 580 - 630 nm. The excitation spectra indicated that an energy transfer from Gd3+to Eu3+occurred. Meanwhile, the concentration quenching phenomenon was observed in Gd2Sn2O7:Eu3+nanocrystals.

AbstractSingle-phase samples of T12Ba2CaCu2O8 and T12Ba2Ca2Cu3O10 have been prepared using a reliable and simple synthetic method. Samples were characterized by x-ray powder diffraction, magnetic susceptibility and four probe resistivity methods. The TcR=0 values for T12Ba2CaCu2O8 ranged from 100 to 105K, whereas those for T12Ba2Ca2Cu3O10 ranged from 96 to 107K. The relationship between the superconducting properties and the various preparation conditions are discussed.
