AbstractSingle-phase samples of T12Ba2CaCu2O8 and T12Ba2Ca2Cu3O10 have been prepared using a reliable and simple synthetic method. Samples were characterized by x-ray powder diffraction, magnetic susceptibility and four probe resistivity methods. The TcR=0 values for T12Ba2CaCu2O8 ranged from 100 to 105K, whereas those for T12Ba2Ca2Cu3O10 ranged from 96 to 107K. The relationship between the superconducting properties and the various preparation conditions are discussed.

ABSTRACTThe compounds La1−xBaxTiO3 (0 ≤ × ≤ 1) have been prepared by arc melting stoichiometric amounts of LaTiO3 and BaTiO3. Single phase samples can be made for the entire stoichiometry range. The polycrystalline samples have been characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, and temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility. This series of compounds has been studied as a possible candidate for an early transition metal superconductor.

We report here normal and superconducting properties of ABa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ (with A=Y, Gd, Dy, and Er) and of Fe doped YBa2Cu3O7−δ . Results from X-ray powder diffraction, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, ESR, and specific heat measurements are presented, leading to a characterization of the magnetic properties of these materials. The effect of structural modifications of the lattice on the superconducting properties and the relative insensitivity of Tc to the presence of magnetic moments is discussed.

Polycrystalline rubidium superoxide (RbO2) has been synthesized by using solution method followed by the reaction process under the cooling condition of-40 °C. X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD) spectra showed that RbO2 was successfully synthesized by this method. The magnetic susceptibility and pulsed muon spin relaxation (μSR) measurements were carried out in order to study the magnetic properties of RbO2.

A new class of hybrid ruteno-cuprates – such as Ru-1212 and Ru-1222 – was discovered in 1995 by Bauerfeind and collaborators. These materials present superconducting and magnetic states at low temperatures, an atypical duality in other superconductors. The superconductivity is more easily observed in Ru-1222, while Ru-1212 is a more problematic case, due to the strong effects of the preparation details in its superconducting properties, becoming the material superconductor or not. Ru-1212 presents a critical temperature that can vary between 0 and 46 K, depending on the preparation conditions, and a temperature of magnetic transition of around 132 K. The samples were prepared through solid state reactions, by using a mixture of high purity powders, followed by calcination and sinterization in the nitrogen and oxygen atmospheres. This paper shows the preparation process of Ru-1212 samples, followed by their structural and magnetic characterization.

AbstractPerovskite-like mixed metal ruthenates are of interest owing to their varied electronic and magnetic properties, which are heavily dependent on the ordering of the transition metals. We report the synthesis and structural characterization of the first 1:2 ordered perovskite ruthenate, Sr3CaRu2O9. The structure was determined from a combination of powder X-ray, electron and neutron diffraction data and is characterized by a 1:2 ordering of Ca2+ and Ru5+ over the sixcoordinate B-sites of the perovskite lattice. Sr3CaRu2O9 is the first example of this structure-type to include a majority metal with d electrons (Ru(V), d3). The relationship of this material to the K2NiF4-type Sr1.5Ca0.5RuO4 (i.e., Sr3CaRu2O8) highlights the dramatic effects of the ruthenium valence on the resultant structure. Remarkably, these two structures can be quantitatively interconverted by the appropriate choice of reaction temperature and atmosphere.

A series of gels with 3Al2O3•2SiO2 were prepared by Sol-gel method and heated at several temperatures for 2 h to synthesize Ti, Fe-doped mullite. The powers were characterized by differential thermal analysis (DSC-TG) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Phase separation was promoted by doping both TiO2 and Fe2O3; with increasing the amount of dopant ions the formation temperature of Si-Al spinel decreased and the formation temperature of mullite increased by TiO2 doping but decreased by Fe2O3 doping. The formation temperature of pure mullite was about 1250-1350 °C.

A novel transition metal polyoxotungstate, [Cu(H2O)6][{Cu(H2O)2}2{Cu(H2O)4H4W12O42}] · 12H2O (1), has been synthesized in aqueous solution and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR and UV/vis spectroscopy, and TG analysis. The paradodecatungstate anions [H2W12O42]10− are linked by CuO6 octahedra, forming a three-dimensional (3D) structure. The magnetic susceptibility of compound 1 in the temperature range 2 - 300 K shows the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions within the uniform Cu2・ ・ ・Cu3 chains

Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr2Ca2-xEuxCu3Oδ cuprates superconductor doped with Eu nanoparticles (x = 0.0000, 0.0025, 0.0200 and 0.0500) were synthesized through conventional solid state reaction method. Crystalline sucrose was added during pelletization and burn at 400°C for two hours to create low density sample. The effect of doping Eu2O3 nanoparticles on the structural and superconducting properties by means of critical temperature (Tc), critical current density (Jc), X-ray diffraction (XRD) together with Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Alternating Current Susceptibility (ACS) were studied. Based on XRD analyses, the crystallographic structure has shown slightly changed from tetragonal to orthorhombic. The amount of 2223 phase gradually decreased with the increment of Eu concentration which indicates that Eu nanoparticles substitution favours the growth of 2212 phases. The resistivity measurements show that the highest Tcvalue for doped samples found at 90 K for x = 0.0025. The FESEM images showed that the plate-like grains become smaller and distributed randomly without specific alignment due to the increment of Eu concentration.
