Adiponitrile, C6H8N2, is a key intermediate in the synthesis of the polyamide Nylon 66 and is produced industrially on a large scale. We have determined the crystal and molecular structure of adiponitrile by single-crystal X-ray analysis at 100 K, a suitable crystal (m.p. 275 K) having been grown from the melt at low temperature. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 2. In the crystal structure, the molecule adopts an exact C i-symmetric gauche–anti–gauche conformation of the C—C—C—C skeleton about an inversion centre. The molecules are densely packed, with short intermolecular contacts between the α-H and nitrile N atoms.

Abstract The molecular structure of the bridged [1]-titanocenophane 1,1'-dimethylsilylene titanocene dichloride, (CH3)2Si(C5H4)2TiCl2, has been investigated by an X-ray structure determination. Crystal data: monoclinic, space group C2/c, Z = 4, a = 1332.9(3), 6 = 988.7(3), c = 1068.9(3) pm, β = 113.43(2)°. The results are compared with the structural dimensions of similar compounds: 1,1'-methylene titanocene dichloride, CH2(C5H4)TiCl2, with the unbridged titanocene dichloride, (C5H5)2TiCl2 and the ethylene-bridged compound (CH2)2(C5H4)2TiCl2

Abstract The novel tri-nuclear metal-sulfur cluster [Mo3S(S2)6]2- can be obtained as its ammonium salt by the reaction of a Moiv containing aqueous solutions with polysulfide. Its crystal and molecular structure has been determined by a single crystal X-ray study. The crystals are monoclinic (space group Cm, with a = 11.577(6) Å, b = 16.448(7) Å, c = 5.716(2) Å, β = 117.30(3)°, V = 967.2 Å3 , Z = 2, dexptl. = 2.54(2) g/cm3 , dcal = 2.54 g/cm3). The structure consists of isolated [Mo3S(S2)6]2- units, with three Mo atoms at the vertices of a triangle. There are bridging as well as terminal S22--ligands lying above and below the Mo3-plane (bond distances: Mo-Mo = 2.722 Å, Mo-S(terminal) = 2.435, Mo-S(bridging) = 2.452, Mo3-S = 2.353(4) Å and S-S = 2.04 Å (mean values)).

AbstractA potassium tetranitratopalladate(II) with the composition K2[Pd(NO3)4] · 2HNO3 was synthesized by a simple solvothermal process in a glass ampoule. The new compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c (no. 14) with the lattice parameters a = 1017.15(4), b = 892.94(3), c = 880.55(3) Å, and β = 98.13(1)° (Z = 2). The crystal structure of K2[Pd(NO3)4] · 2HNO3 reveals isolated complex [Pd(NO3)4]2− anions, which are surrounded by eight potassium cations and four HNO3 molecules. The complex anions and the cations are associated in layers which are separated by HNO3 molecules. K2[Pd(NO3)4] · 2HNO3 can thus be regarded as a HNO3 intercalation variant of β-K2[Pd(NO3)4]. The characterization is based on single-crystal X-ray and powder X-ray diffraction.

Single crystals of Cu(pz)Br2 and Cu(pz)Cl2 were grown by using gel methods with tetramethoxysilane as the gel-forming reagent. Thermal decomposition is interpreted. Crystal data for the bromo complex: monoclinic, space group C2/m with a = 1239.2(3) pm, b = 685.9(2) pm, c = 390.7(3) pm, β = 96,23(5)°. Crystal data for the chloro-complex: monoclinic, space group C2/m with a = 1197.1(3) pm, b = 684.9(3) pm, c = 370.1(3) pm, β = 95.96(5)°. Crystal structure analyses reveal that CuHal2 molecules are bonded by pyrazine to form linear chains. These chains are cross-linked by bridging halogen atoms.

The crystal and molecular structure of the tetrameric complex of the composition [SbCl3·OP(NCS)3]4 synthesized from SbCl3 and OP(NCS)3 in CCl4 waso determined by X-ray crystallography [143 m space group, cubic system with a = 13.927(4) Å]. The complex exhibits a tetranuclear "cage" structure with a [Sb4O4] core which consists of μ3-bridging oxygen and six coordinate antimony(III) atoms; the Sb-O distance, 3.060 Å, is exceptionally long.

Abstract trans-Dichloro(ethanedial-dioximato)(ethanediaI-dioxime)rhodium (III), RhCl2(GH)(GH2), has been synthesized and its structure determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction at room temperature. C4H7Cl2N4O4Rh, Mr = 348.94. monoclinic space group P21/ɑ; a = 10.543(3), b = 8.363(2), c = 11.512(3)Å ; β = 92.79(2)°; V = 1024Å3; Z = 4; Dc = 2.26 Mg m-3. Final Rw = 0.075 for 2035 reflections and 139 parameters. The coordination geometry around Rh is a distorted (4+2) octahedron, with four chelating N atoms lying in the equatorial plane and the two Cl atoms in the apical positions. The H atoms of the oxime groups are involved in relatively weak intramolecular O-H-O bridgings, as well as in very strong intermolecular bridgings which extend throughout the crystal structure and propagate nearly parallel to the [101] crystallographic direction.

Abstract The crystal structure of the known title compound was determined by low-temperature X-ray diffraction (orthorhombic, space group Pbcn, Z = 4). The molecule displays an unusually short O-N bond, a relatively long C-O bond and a moderately pyramidal O-NS2 skeleton (O-N 133.1, C-O 148.5 pm, sum of bond angles at N: 347.4°).
