AbstractThe so-called hairpin winding technology, which is specially tailored to electrical traction components, deploys rectangular plug-in copper wires in the stator. The fusion welding of the adjacent wire ends is associated with challenges due to the high thermal conductivity as well as the porosity formation of the copper. During this study, the electron beam (EB) welding of electrolytic tough pitch (ETP) and oxygen-free electronic grade (OFE) copper connectors was investigated. Subsequently, the specimens underwent X-ray computed tomography (CT) and metallographic examinations to characterize the joints. It was discovered that the residual oxygen content of the base material is responsible for the pore formation. With only a very low level of oxygen content in the copper, a porosity- and spatter-free welding can be reproducibly realized using the robust EB welding technology, especially for copper materials. By optimizing the parameters accordingly, joints exhibiting a low level of porosity were achieved even in the case of the alloy containing a high amount of residual oxygen. Beyond this, detailed analyses in terms of pore distribution were carried out and a good correlation between technological parameters and welding results was determined.

Cu2O conical micron-scale protrusions have been grown on a preoxidized Cu surface by the Ar ion beam irradiation at 9 kV for 5-20 min in the low vacuum. This Ar ion irradiation is based on the ‘Transcription Method’ which has been originated by B.-S. Xu and S.-I. Tanaka in 1996 to form nanoparticles. Ar ion irradiation induced needle-like nanostructures composed of Cu2O and CuO which were randomly nucleated on Cu surface by the oxidation at 623 K for 10 min in the air. The obtained Cu2O conical protrusions have a controllable length of up to 14.6 μm with diameter in the range of 0.8 μm by changing the Ar ion irradiation angle to the surface. The mechanism of the formation of the conical protrusions is proposed that Cu atoms on the Cu surface activated and sputtered by the Ar ion irradiation diffuse on the surface of needle-like oxide as nuclei along the Ar ion track and react with residual oxygen atoms to grow the conical Cu2O protrusions.

Abstract Traditionnal brazing ailoys does not wet ceramic and therefore are unusable for metal ceramic bonding. To overcome this problem, we have pre-metallized different ceramics (AI2O3, AIN, SiAION) by plasma spraying of copper on ceramics. The good wettability of AgCu or AgCuTi alloy on so-coated ceramics is explained by effect of residual oxygen at interface which favours the thermodynamic adhesion during brazing. The interface analysis showed that silver or titanium segregation occurs at ceramic surface and that, conversely, sprayed copper diffuses in the brazed joint

ABSTRACTThe stable growth conditions of erbium-silicide on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) are investigated considering annealing temperature, SOI and sputtered erbium thickness. From the sheet resistance measurement, X-ray diffraction and Auger electron spectroscopy analysis, the optimum annealing temperature is determined as 500°C. Also, for the stable growth of erbium- silicide on SOI, the sputtered erbium thickness should be less than 1.5 times of SOI thickness. As the SOI thickness decreases below this critical thickness, erbium-rich region is formed at the erbium-silicide and buried-oxide interface. By applying the optimized erbium-silicide growth conditions, 50-nm-gate-length n-type SB-MOSFET is manufactured, which shows the possible usage of erbium-silicide as the source and drain material in the n-type Schottky barrier MOSFETs for decananometer regime applications.

This paper introduces an energy-saving biomass stove. The principle of energy-saving biomass stove is gasification. It is a chemical process, transforms solid fuel into a gas mixture, called (CO + H2 + CH4) gas. Emission lines in the stove chimneys typically remain high temperatures around 90° to 120°C. The composition of the flue gas consists of combustion products of rice husk which are mainly CO2, CO, N2. A little volatile in the rice husk, which could not burn completely, residual oxygen and dust will fly in airflow. The amount of dust in the outlet gas is a combination of un-burnt amount of impurity and firewood, usually occupied impurity rate of 1 % by weight of dry husk. Outlet dust of rice husk furnace has a normal size from 500μm to 0.1 micron and a particle concentration ranges from 200-500 mg/m3. Gas emissions is created when using energy-saving stove and they will be used as the main raw material in combustion process Therefore the CO2 emission into the environment when using the stove will be reduced up to 95% of a commonly used stove. Dòng khí thải ra ở ống khói của bếp thông thường có nhiệt độ vẫn còn cao khoảng 90° ~ 120°C. Thành phần của khói thải bao gồm các sản phẩm cháy của trấu, chủ yếu là các khí CO2, CO, N2, một ít các chất bốc trong trấu không kịp cháy hết, oxy dư và tro bụi bay theo dòng khí. Lượng bụi tro có trong khói thải chính là một phần của lượng không cháy hết và lượng tạp chất không cháy có trong củi, lượng tạp chất này thường chiếm tỷ lệ 1% trọng lượng trấu khô. Bụi trong khói thải lò đốt trấu thông thường có kích thước hạt từ 500μm tới 0,1μm, nồng độ dao động trong khoảng từ 200-500 mg/m3. Lượng khí thải được sinh ra khi sử dụng bếp tiết kiệm năng lượng, sẽ được dùng làm nguyên liệu đốt cháy chính của quá trình đó. Do đó lượng khí CO2 thải ra môi trường khi sử dụng bếp tiết kiệm sẽ được giảm xuống 95 % so với sử dụng bếp thường.

SummaryThe vitamin content of ultra-high-temperature (UHT) processed milk was compared with that of the original raw milk. Three processes were used. In the first, which caused no change in oxygen content, the milk was heated and cooled in a plate-type heat exchanger. In the second, the milk was again heated indirectly and then evaporatively cooled, leaving in the milk about one-third of the initial oxygen content. In the third process the milk was heated by direct steam injection and cooled by evaporation and contained little or no residual oxygen.On processing and during subsequent storage for 90 days there was no loss of vitamin A, carotene, vitamin E, thiamine, riboflavine, pantothenic acid, biotin or nicotinic acid. There was little or no loss of vitamin B6or vitamin B12on processing, but up to 50% of each of these vitamins was lost during 90 days' storage. All the dehydroascorbic acid (DHA) and about 20% of the ascorbic acid (AA) was lost on processing. There was no further loss of AA during 90 days’ storage when no residual oxygen was present, but in milks containing more than about 1 ppm oxygen all the AA was lost within 14 days. About 20% of the folic acid was lost on processing; thereafter, as with ascorbic acid, the extent of the loss on storage depended on the residual oxygen content of the milk: in the absence of oxygen the folic acid was stable.
